《The Gamer's core》Chapter 04: first hunt

He moved closer to the fluffy white prey, making the least amount of noise with every motion his body made while sticking strictly to the bushy floor. Hunger is taking over, and he's so close his ears can practically detect it's little heart beating softly, unaware of his presence, the rabbit sniffs the ground in hopes of food. "-just a little closer... don't rush-" his senses have never been so focused before. Feeling so primitive, not that it is bad, just... unfamiliar. "-almost there..-".
A bird flew by, resting on a branch right above Damian, yet he remained still. Mind and body focused only on the prey under his gaze, almost as if knowing what it's leading to. It seems as if every second is being stretched tenfolds. Everything is moving slowly. The rabbit raises its head, alerted by the bird's presence.
And at that moment, the horned rabbit witnessed the glowing gaze lurking in the bushes "-not yet...-". Its body flings on reflex fixing its position, anxious to reach the hard dirt so it would bolt for dear life away from its hunter. But the rabbit's mistake was leaving the ground in the first place "DASH!!".
Damian's left hand grasped his prey's horn as if planting his finger in it, while his left arm wrapped around its belly, squeezing with the promise of never letting go. The rabbit squirms around, kicking around in an attempt to flee the grasp of this cage of flesh, "s-stop wiggling damn it!!" it has a lot of fight left in its fluffy body.

CRACK... its head suddenly forced to turn backward at an odd angle while its body lost all functions. Other than to break the fur ball's neck, there was no real option in Damian's head, falling to the ground with his hands still clasped to its lifeless body.

The expression on Damian's face wasn't of happiness but concern as he kept looking at his dead prey. He didn't feel like this is how someone should feel when he had his first kill, "-shouldn't I feel bad for the little guy at least?-".

"I was wondering if this would happen. I guess even the loot system works here" as he looked in the loot menu, Damian could barely prevent his stomach from growling, screaming to be fed. after pulling one piece of meat, he was disappointed to discover that it was still raw.
Later on, he decided that he should go back to the hut seeing that whoever or whatever brought him there apparently isn't around at the moment. And minutes after reaching the hut, Damian rummages around for anything that can be of any use, and twenty minutes passed before Damian had scavenged the whole cabin only to find a small sharp knife, a few flints, and an ax planted to a pile of wood behind the hut, which he stored in his inventory.
No time was wasted preparing the fire cooking the meat on it to feast and silence the growling beast. It felt dangerous to stay inside the hut since there was only one way in or out, so a cookout would be his best option. Damian kept using -Scan- every chance he got till a new window popped in front of him just in the middle of preparing his meal.
-Scan- has reached Level 2
Without any hesitation, Damian opened his menu, inspecting his stats list while grabbing a piece of the somewhat burned meat. His eyes are jumping from stat to stat, but the rest of him was busy blowing and tearing chunks of the meat his body was craving ever since he saw it.

-Passive: You can see a living entity's Name and Level. If the entity is 11+ above you in Levels, you will not see their Levels. "so I can grind my stats and abilities just by using them thanks to the -Gamer's core-, I wonder what would happen if I raise myself to Level 2," Damian talked to himself while still munching and gulping till nothing but clean bones remained. It wasn't one of his finest cookings, but the only things he cooked were scrambled eggs and noodles. As he was about to reach for the second piece, a window popped, stopping his hand midway. You have learned -Cooking-
"-This might come in handy when I grind it up...hmm?-" A glitter in the bushes caught Damian's attention. It was out of place and unnatural. Slowly his eyes adjusted as they sank behind their lids, revealing a figure trying to blend with its surroundings and gazing at him. A chill ran down Damian's spine "-is it them?-" his body involuntarily flinched once confirming to the silhouette that it has been found out, and it slowly lurked out of it's hiding in plain sight.
Standing on two legs, it wore nothing but rags. The top of its head could barely reach Damian's shoulder when it came to height, and he was 170cm tall. Somewhat muscular body coated with green skin. Long ears mixed with a face only a mother would love and a long nose to boot. But the set of sharp teeth and the short dual-bladed sword in its hands were putting Damian on edge as he also noticed the floating name tag above its head.
Goblin Warrior - Lvl 2
Not wanting to agitate the little goblin, he stood slowly while maintaining eye contact, not daring to look away. Its eyes switched between Damian and the sweating meat, "-Shit!-" that's when it dawned on him that the smell of cooked meat is what attracted the green visitor. "-okay, let's see if this will get rid of you-" Damian removed the meat from the fire which agitated the goblin as it thought he would run with it. Instead, Damian extended his hand that was carrying the meat aiming it at the goblin while slowly walking forward, closing the gap between them.
As if understanding the gesture, the goblin also moved towards him in the same manner with its left free hand extended towards the meat with an opened palm and the other hand turning the sword downward and tucking it behind the goblin's back as if telling him it won't use the sword. Slowly but surely, the distance was decreasing, and just when the goblin's hand was about to reach its mark, a faint smirk slipped on its face "-HE'S LURING ME IN!!!-".
The goblin jumped towards Damian pulling the sword, holding it as a dagger, turning its body to the left in a rotating motion while aiming to slice his neck, but the blade cut nothing but air. Damian took a crouching position the moment it's expression change. As the goblin missed its target, its right and backside were very much exposed, and this was a chance Damian was not planning to let go away. "Dash!!!". With the ax already in both of Damian's hands, he aims it from his lower right side to the goblin's exposed right ribcage while mimicking the goblin's rotating motion.
Critical hit 35 DMG
So devastating the hit, it sent the goblin flying several feet before it slammed the ground in shock. "how does that taste fucker, huh !?" Damian was happy with his performance yet enraged at the ungrateful goblin for trying to deceive him. Slowly walking towards the goblin, who is now crawling away back towards the bushes, he came from with one hand on the bleeding open wound. With his now bloody ax in his right hand and the goblin's rusty short sword now in his left hand, Damian was closing the gap promising this crawling intruder a painful death for his treachery, when the goblin screeched at the top of its tiny lungs, "CREEAAGH!!!".

Ashes of the Primordial
With the upcoming shutdown of the servers for Ragnarok Games’ deep dive VRMMO, ‘Ashes of the Primordial’, the player log of those online for the final night was depressingly empty-looking. A revolutionary level of realism drove Ashes to the forefront of the games market, billions of players enjoying their journey to power and glory as an avatar of their own creation. The final enemy of the game-world defeated, the company announced, in line with their stance from launch, that they would be shutting down the game exactly six months after the defeat of Sutr, the final boss. Ammanas, the player responsible for Sutr's defeat, stays online until the end. However, as the countdown hits 0, the start-hub of his dive rig (what would typically greet a forced ejection from a game) was no where to be seen and instead darkness greets him as he fades into unconsciousness. Awakening to unfamiliar sights in an unfamiliar body, one which turns out to be a lot more familiar than he first thought, now he must figure out where, how, why and what to do with the new world he finds himself in. Author note: I don't own the cover, just something found through a google search. This is also my first story and the MC will basically be unimaginably OP yet never really utilising his full power. He just wants to find somewhere to fit in to the new world he finds himself in and despite both his nature as a loner and his interests he will find himself forming connections with the denizens of this new realm. Hope you enjoy

But not so for one particular freshman, whose first month at college seems to never end—literally. Set during the 20th year of the nation's Rectification Era, A Long Refrain follows Melody Quick’s attempts to escape from the month-long time loop she's found herself trapped in. Her journey, which starts in the capital city of Somnhaven, will take her across the vast expanse of land once known as Circadia, whose forgotten histories, ancient secrets and eccentric inhabitants could hold the key to discovering the true nature of the loop and the role she herself plays within it. However, the more she learns, the more cruel truths she must face: Will she really be able to handle the awful reality behind the loop, and all that it entails? And will those very same answers she's found be enough to not only break her free from the loop, but to also protect the people she holds dear? (A-and from what, exactly ...?)
