《The Gamer's core》Chapter 02: blood moon's edge

The group of five walked into the dungeon with weapons at hand prepared for any attack that might come their way "so what Intel do we have on this dungeon?" Damian asked while gazing into the dark corners with expecting eyes "not much. The only piece of Intel I got was that there were sounds of howling and roaring heard every now and then coming from this place" Marco said while he led the group as he waved his staff around "so we're expecting werewolves, are we? Maybe I can persuade them to let us level-up here, haha hahaha" Globmyster laughed as his hands held to his dual blades, Munchymuncher started laughing along with his battle-axe resting on his shoulder, while Slacker123 held her bow and arrow ready to strike at any moment as if hunting a prey.
Players of Knights of Oblivion rarely dared to enter an unmapped location in fear of dying. It's not like they will die in real life, but the reason being if a player dies he/she will fall down in levels causing a percentage of his stats to go down as well, so players tend to be very cautious regarding exploring unmapped locations. On the other hand, being the first to explore new areas gives a great amount of EXP and a handsome reward. Be it a rare item, gear, or money, and one could also sell the intel to other players, so exploring is also very beneficial and rewarding in its own way also.
A figure moved in the shadows, causing the team to halt focusing on the silhouette while it walked on all fours casually from the shadows. The figure was a monkey with thick grayish fur and massive bulging muscles that makes anyone mistake it for an overgrown ape if it wasn't for the long furry tail waving behind it, the monkey was wearing scraps of dented armor, the name tag of the monkey said.
Monkey soldier Lvl 66
The moment their eyes connected, the monkey rushed at them with eyes glowing red and mouth open wide exposing a yellow line of sharp teeth aiming at Marco's throat. And yet before it had the chance to sink its teeth in, Damian charged at the monkey tackling it with his shoulder. At the same time, Marco hopped to the rear of the group as if on the queue.
and before the monkey had any time to retaliate, an arrow flung from Slacker's bow, finding it's way to the monkey's leg as she whispered "crippling arrow" giving Damian time to draw his round shield and sword. "Thanks, Slacker," he says before he bashes his shield in the monkey's face forcing it back with great force. as it tried to get its balances back, two blades pierced its back with the help of Globmyster "stay right there." while a battle-ax shrieked as it was cutting through the wind till its blade rested in the monkey's chest, forcing its last breath out.

and just when things were about to cool down, another Monkey appeared, but this one was noticeably bigger and wore better armor, also held a large single-edged sword name tagged as...
Monkey general Lvl 67
after watching his comrade fall he gave a loud heavy howl that echoed bouncing through the walls of the cave, but it was not meant to plant fear in the intruder's heart.
as the cry faded, Slacker flinched causing all the group's attention to fall on her "we have company" she said, Munchy raised his hand and the ax flew back to it as he asked "how many?", And to that question, she answered bitterly "too many." Slacker often relied on long-ranged attacks and raised her vision and hearing senses as a defense mechanism, detecting enemies long before they detect her, "then we should retreat for now" Damian said while he's still facing the monkey general before she replied, "we're already surrounded."
everyone's eyes widened as they noticed numerous eyes gazing at them from every direction, and slowly creeping in the shadows their growls can be heard. silhouettes floating behind the curtains of darkness indicating the incoming danger, eyes glowing red focused on what they considered prey, slowly some of them revealed themselves while the rest remained in the shadows awaiting the right moment.
" well let's show them how the guild of (Blood moon's edge) do things," Marco said as he and Slacker slowly retreated in the middle of the small group surrounded by Munchy who is now equipped with two battle axes instead of one. Globmyster, whose blades started dripping green liquid just after he whispered "poisoned nail", and Damian who started giving an orange aura that started spreading to each one of the group members "Guardian's blood pact".
Guardian's blood pact: a buff that forces all the damage taken by the group to directly transfer to the caster instead, and the more people this buff effects, the less damage the caster takes.
Moments of silence went by before all the monkeys charged, and in response, Marco chanted "feather's contract". reducing the group's weight to 10% , all of them jumped except Damian who stood in the middle of the charging horde till they got two ft away from him before he shouted " RAGING SHACKLES". suddenly chain-linked harpoons spawned from every part of his body piercing all the monkeys in sight pushing them back slightly before pulling them all towards Him.
But that was not the end of Damian's performance as he next roared "SPARTAN's BARRICADE" instantly several large round shields appear forming a dome with Damian inside. The moment any of the monkeys got slammed into one of the shields he immediately got impaled by a spear sticking out from between gaps, within moments all the shackled monkeys were hanging from several spears killing them almost instantly.
The other monkeys who were hiding in the shadows charged in, while howling and roaring after seeing the shield fade out of existence. As they got closer Damian smirked slightly as a barrage of fireballs filled the ground from above with excessive force causing them to fall on the floor, "meteor shower" Marco chanted as he and Damian exchanged looks.

Right after the rest of the group got back down, Globmyster whispered "shadow dash" as he faded out of sight, only to hear his echo "silver storm". That's when streams of quick flashes of green lights covered the monkeys, forcing them to crumble to the ground one by one before he reappeared between his friends holding the two bloody swords.
Sighing in relief that no one sustained any damage Marco says "that was fun" that's when an enraged roar was heard sending chills down everyone's spine. A huge figure almost two stories high and bulging muscles, with fur white as snow, walks in from the darkness with a massive Jo staff on its back, and the name tag had two words that forced them to hold tighter to their weapons unconsciously.
Monkey King (Boss) Lvl 70
On reflex, Damian charges towards the monkey in an attempt to force its attention on him, everyone stood still till he managed to strike the bulky muscles, instantly the rest of the group scattered, with Marco and Slacker in the back while Glob and Munchy on its side.
Damian kept bashing with his shield and striking with his sword, while the other two kept slicing its sides and back, and Slacker kept raining her arrows down on the monkey's vital spots while Marco stood to watch saving his mana and healing whoever sustained any significant damage.
At first, only Damian took manageable damage while he kept shielding himself and deflecting some of the damage, and the Giant monkey's health was decreasing at a steady pace. When it's health turned orange as it's remaining HP reached 30%, the Monkey King roared as it entered an enraged state growing slightly in size while its eyes turned hot red. It pulled the jo staff from its back pointing it towards Slacker, on instinct Damian shouts to her "DODGE IT!!!" but his warning was a bit too late, by the time his words reached her the staff grew in length almost instantly, tackling her into a rocky wall.
Luckily she didn't sustain any damage due to the Guardian's blood pact but Damian's health, on the other hand, got reduced to 40%, " MUNCHY TAKE OVER" he shouted while jumping to the back "Spirit of the great bear". An aura resembling a white bear covered Munchy as he exchanged blows with the Monkey King, "greater heal" Marco kept healing while Damian switched his weapons, his weapon now a giant sword almost as long as Damian, that dripped blood. Blood seeker, the sword was named, and it heals the holder feeding on the enemies blood, but if no blood was provided, then it will feed on the holder himself, thanks to Damian's high STR he can equip it in one hand.
On his other hand, he held a spartan round shield that could almost cover all of his body, with a mirror as its surface. Karama's echo is a shield with the power to reflect 98% of the blocked damage to the caster be it magical or physical damage but blocking with Karama's echo leaves the user in a daze for 0.8 seconds making him/her exposed to any attack in that amount of time.
Damian was so indulged in the game that he failed to notice the floating letters around him as one by they started crawling on his skin before sticking to it covering most of his body, while the pendant itself started reforming and changing shape.
As he finished equipping, Damian discerned that his Guardian's blood pact had faded, he rushed to replace Munchy. That's when he noticed something he should've kept his eye on the entire time, the Monkey King's health was about to reach 15%, and that's when all bosses deal the highest amount of their damage and change the way they fight"MUNCHY SWITCH!!" yet he was late again. As the Monkey's health had just reached 15% forcing it into a rampage hitting everything around it killing Munchy before switching to Glob who was attacking its back, and crushing him with the jo staff.
"-his aggro was reset, prioritizing most damage dealers-" Marco realized before shouting to Slacker, "DON'T ATTACK YOU'LL AG.." at that moment the Monkey King had already jumped. landing in front of Slacker with its jo staff pointed at her, but the moment the jo staff launched, "Replace" Damian was standing with his shield blocking the staff while Slacker was in Damian's previous spot.
the Monkey king's health fell to 11%, and when he was about to strike again Damian whispered "second breath". that allowed him to move again blocking the second attack dropping the Monkey's health to 7%, it jumped back after getting reflected twice "YOU'RE NOT TAKING A BREAK JUST YET!!!" Damian dashed at it Slicing its chest and exchanging blows in an epic trade of barrages while Marco used all of his mana to keep him alive, and Slacker plunged as many arrows as she could in its furry back.
The Monkey King's health fell rapidly ...3%... while Damian's health kept jumping up and down almost reaching zero several times...2%... Damian's real body was covered in the strange glowing letters, and the last letter was slowly planting itself on his forehead ...1%... while he was entirely focussed on the bloodbath between him and the Monkey King. "UAAAAAAAAGH" putting all his might in one last strike Damian rushes with everything he has till his sword cuts through the Monkey King splitting him in half ...0%...
congratulations you have obtained the skill -Gamer's core-
suddenly a window floats in front of Damian, and moments later everything turns pure white before it all goes pitch black.

8 106The Lies They Told Me: Short stories from my life
Like many of my peers, I've discovered that life is not quite what I expected it to be. As I age, I've begun to find that many of the sayings and truths that my parents, authority figures, and friends have passed on to me were outright lies. Every person I know has been subject to the same interactions, which got me thinking, why not write a compilation of stores about my life experiences to date. I hope that this book will help all of us come to terms with the realities that we face today or deal with some of our deepest feelings about the past. Maybe these people lied to us and maybe they honestly believed the myriad of things they told us, but either way I think we can have a good laugh looking back and remembering the first times that we realized these things weren't true. I also hope that you can look back at the lies, or life lessons, that you've learned and can be inspried to own your stories and share them with others in a genuine way. Wiithout further ado, I hope that you enjoy the many short stories of my life that made me who I am today. These stories range from funny to down right surrel, so good luck on your journey!
