Quest 2 Part 1 [Running away]
It’s been two days since I completed my first quest and deleted most of my memories. If I had to delete them for my own sake, just what happened back then? Still, these two days were really annoying.
I had to work all day. Not only I had to catch up with the past hundred years paperwork, but with the new stupid projects I started I’ll have 10 times more work in the future than I originally would have. Since building usually takes a lot of time, I went out with Neth and a few earth mages and made the orphanage with magic. We also helped in rebuilding the farms. I just made dormitories for the workers, nothing special.
At least I became more accustomed to handling paperwork and magic. Practice makes the master.
That’s not the only thing that happened during my short breaks. Maybe my biggest fear was solved when I read the report from the Guild. No, that is incorrect, in reality I proved one thing that raised a hundred more questions.
The testers who I killed came back with different bodies not remembering anything. Even though I gave them the brain wash-, command to write a letter, it was full of gibberish, however the length and the number of the words stayed correct. Maybe I can use these to create hidden messages.
They came back meaning we can’t leave this place yet. As Tailon wrote, they did not remember anything that happened to their previous character. Probably the system also protects their mind’s against the game. When it detects unbearable amount of pain for a long time or emotional crisis the connection to their bodies are cut.
But that only works when it can detect such things. Mind magic, no anything that wasn’t in the game before or the real world is unknown to it.
The collar changes their thoughts in real time, so it probably influences them with continuous use. I did experiment with it.
That new slave girl, I every day train her to be a baby dragon. It was funny to watch as she is playing with the dragon god’s offspring. I have some info of her since she appeared in some kind of accident with the church. It was thanks to her I learned deleting memories is much easier than manipulating them. There is a chance of remembering parts of it when done poorly.
Of course this also has a real purpose, besides the dragon’s (and my) enjoyment. I test if I can rebuild her personality using long term mind training. I change her mood and make her enjoy not thinking and acting as a pet. I do this every time she snaps out of it. In these last few days I can calmly say, it works.

At first I had to redo it every minute, but after a time the period it worked, grew larger. A day later I only had to do it once in two hours. Now I only need to “help her” after every 6 hours.
Sadly this is inefficient, but maybe just my expectations are too big.
So yes… These few days were busy. Now it’s over, the time has come. I finished the paperwork.
I can go and invent new things as my quest wants me to. But what should I do? Mana guns? That would be awesome. But first I have to know what the mana crystal is capable of.
I seclude myself inside my research room and let the two pet’s play together. I shouldn’t say pet to the dragon though. Dragons are very powerful and mighty creatures, they would never serve others. No, if a dragon were captured by lesser lifeforms all the others would destroy the whole country it’s in.
Lesser dragons are a bit different, they accept kinship so they get the chance to evolve into real ones. They won’t stay with their “friends’ after that, it’s just a mutual cooperation.
The baby is an exception, since his mother died of an internal fight I was entrusted into raising him into a real dragon. I also ignored as the Dragon God proposed to me and asked to be the his wife. All that happened in the game, I’m not sure how it is now.
Just what did he want with a fairy? I’m a magical creature it’s not like I can lay eggs for him. I became too logical with these thoughts, let’s forget this for now.
I create a small [Magic Crystal] in my palm, and begin to examine it. As I let my mana flow in it I see patterns and the material it’s made of. The inside is transparent like glass, but nothing tells me the reason why. Filling it up with more power the color gradually changes.
After putting in 1000 points worth, it becomes skyblue. I continue and watch as the pattern’s change with the color, making it darker. When I approach 5000 the color is dark ocean blue, but reaching the turning point it becomes light green. I don’t stop until it’s near 8000, when the crystal breaks.
It’s similar to the crystal used in the slave collars. What’s different about it? Why does it change color, and why doesn’t it leak?
I wonder about it for a while with no result. It’s probably the full form of the creating magic. With this mass production should be possible, but I feel there is something else with it. I don't think this is a consumable item.

I rest a little while thinking up ideas what to do with it.
I want to shoot lasers. But that’s impossible isn’t it? I’ll just try it and see how that goes. I drink a mana potion to speed up the process.
Creating an other gem that’s slightly bigger I use up half of my mana. I fill it until it becomes dark blue again.
So… Release the power… I try forcing the magic the usual way outside, but the pattern changes and does it without need of my help. I stare at the orb as it releases the magic into the air.
...
So that’s it! It can be used as a [Spell Crystal], no, maybe even as a [Data Storage]!
”hohohohoo…” I let out a creepy laugh.
This is interesting! Even if I wasted a lot of magic with it…
I finish the last touch on the item on top of the ruined desk in front of me. Me trying new ideas is harmful to the surroundings. I chant a spell to learn the time when another idea hits me.
Can I turn a spell into a passive? I have enough mana regeneration to do so. I form the spell and write it in my head.
Waiting a few seconds I see that it works. I can tell the exact time without any need of help. It’s not only cool but doesn’t even hinder me. I have to concentrate on it a little and it uses mana, but in time I will probably get used to it.
Back to the [Item] I completed in the last 27 hours. Wait, I was doing this for more than a day? I guess I went a little overboard. This clock in my head is also amazing.
Anyways, [Data Crystal 1.0] and [Spell Crystal v1] are ready for testing. What will I use it for? The first version of data crystal will be useful for storing data. Duh. The spells used in the game are written in binary, this works the same. However, if I use Spell Crystals they will work together as one.
First, the user puts a drop of blood on the big crystal. That is the only part not hidden. This item uses [Appraise] on the DNA and magic wavelength. Another crystal inside converts it to a binary code, then a little more complicated circuit made out of multiple items check for the database. If unknown it will save it.
Best thing is: I’ll be able to use this to create ID-s. This will not only be useful for adventurers, managing the citizens, counting and monitoring them will be easier. No criminal will be able to even buy a slice bread let alone enter or exit as they please.
Maybe it can be used as a bankcard… But creating that many devices is impossible. There is also no stable wireless connection to back it up. Rejected. The only reson this works because the already existing spells.
Is it possible to create a monitor or something like that? Maybe thermal paper? I’ll think about it later.
I still have paperwork to do later. I hate budget reports, I don’t even have a calculator.
…
I’m an idiot. I can just create a calculator spell and put it in my head. But how do I create it? I can understand basic programming language, but not binary programming. I have no clue how to even start. Converting it is the most I can do. If I simply reverse it, it’s no good for some kind of reason.
Is it possible to use create magic with language programming? I mean turning language into magic. Maybe. Trying won’t hurt, I hope.
I put up a few rules in my head and merge them I achieve a basic form, but I have no faith in it. Moving the mana in a way that follows the spell a small ripple in space opens in front of me for a blink of time but disappears instantly.
Good that I did not use it inside my head, I would have lost it.
Soo.. Back to the ones and zeros. I have no idea how calculators work, no, I have no idea how microchips work. Maybe if I try hard enough I will be granted a small insight.
I put the numbers in order mimicking other spells, what is just as hard as it sounds and after a few hundred tries it stops from exploding into my face. And it’s not working. I have no idea how to create new spells. I’m sure there is a trick to it, but I just can’t get it.
Maybe I’m relying too much on the mind magic’s reading. Maybe the working of mana is totally different and it can only be translated one way…
Alright, I’ll hand over the identifying machine and magic idea to the research group, they will be able to do better work with them and make it more usable. It’s good to have your own Magician Guild, even more since it’s only for NPCs. They are nothing more than loyal followers of my guild.
“Soo.. It was magic gun was it?” I mumble to myself while grinning madly.
That night even more weird and loud noises came from the research facility.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
