Quest 1, Part 9: [Magic]

I wake up still tired after the progress I made yesterday. I think it was not good that I invented something while still under influence of the magic. My mood was quite bizarre and hard to control.

No, I was acting crazy yesterday. I can only sigh and accept the fact.

At least I can use it for -relative- good too. Just the fact that I did not notice how strange was the event makes me nervous. When using magic my mind literally became a computer. How the hell could a human brain memorize and work with so much data? And turning the data into magic is also extremely inhuman. Maybe the system still helps to match my race’s basic ability?

Magic manipulation in itself is ridiculous. It’s really hard to understand let alone explain. A new sense, connected to me like it is a part of me originally.

I just feel it. Using magic is the same as using your hand. First you can move it a little. After years of training you will be able to grab things. Another few years later you will learn to write precise small characters, yet if you don’t practice you won’t be able to write with the other hand. At least not that well.

Understanding how and what you do helps a lot. For a blind person it’s hard to learn to grab a knife. These are the normal humans. I’m a fairy, I can see the knife, I can tell where it is, so I can grab easily.

However this does not mean I know how to cut or fight with it. I can swing and hope, but I’m an untrained civilian. A thug is someone who learn how to use the weapon in a brute way. That is what a self taught mage is.

A soldier or martial artist is someone who was taught how to use it efficiently and can sue techniques to defeat the opponent. That is what a first rate mage is.

I’m currently at thug level, but because it sounds horrible let’s call it amateur level.

There is no way that an amateur could fight evenly with a blind soldier. At least he will have a large disadvantage. The sound of the cut air, the pressure, the steps, every little detail will reveal the attacker.

This is why an amateur mage can’t fight with a master. Stabbing in the back is a little different, but it’s not impossible to defend against it.

This is why I can use low level skills. But higher ones need much more practice and knowledge.

Like math. Terrible example but most correct. At first you can’t count, but after understanding the numeral system you can do it to as high as you want. Then you learn how to add and subtract, opening up new possibilities. It’s the same with multiplying and dividing.

You have to learn the basics of magic just like math. But these are just like the basics. These evolve into algebra, arithmetic and other various things. Sooner or later it will become so complex, you can’t understand it.

For advanced magic you have to use formulas. Once you understand it is as easy as adding 1 to 1. Until then you will fail.

This is why I can’t just use high level formulas even if I know them. I don’t understand them so part of it will be left out or done in the wrong way. The good thing is that I’m not “blind” so I can see what’s wrong with it, meaning I only need time to experiment and adjust.

I hate math. Even if I’m good at it, I hate it. Even with the help of the system, the better memory and faster thinking, it’s hard, annoying and unpleasant. And as a “master mage” I can’t ask for help. That would be a disgrace.

Even if would ask Neth or someone like that, they won’t be able to explain it to me. It’s instinctive to them, I can’t ask them to explain how to add 1 to 1, or how to move my arm. They can’t explain, since they were not taught by others. This is quite the unpleasant matter.

I have to do something with my scar. It’s pretty big and ugly. I could just hide it, but I’m not like that. That’s the last option.

If I cut the whole wound out and make a healer fix it that would help. But that means cutting half my throat out. Not interested in that. I’ll have to learn to manipulate living tissue. That’s earth and water affinity.

However, I’m not human. I have no idea what else my body is made out of. Carbon, minerals and water that’s fix. But also magic, or I would age normally. This is why human mages live for a little longer or even turn into High Humans.

Magic is some kind of energy according to books… for me it seems like radiation? No idea.

Without any proper answers I will accept the theory of [Magical Gravity]. Like mass, magic is a property of every object. The more magic the object has, the more it bends the magical space. Like another dimension that we can’t perceive well. Now I’m lost. Even I can’t understand myself now. Let’s just accept it and forget it.

Of course this was in the dragon book. It seems I underestimated it. I have to go and thank the Dragon God later. It’s just a casual stroll into the most dangerous dungeon’s last floor. Hell I won’t go there again, ever. But he was really kind and nice to me, even if I almost pissed myself.

Wait. These are memories? How come I remembered them… I don’t understand how this works, let’s consult a psychologist. Or not, they will send me to jail. Patient privileges aren’t enough after what happened yesterday.

Let’s go and read a little.

I go to my Royal Library to read about healing magic. The books might contain something that’ll let me understand how it works. I mean they should, since they are books about magic.

But Royal Library. Hey, now that I think about it, in the game I only had the city as mine. But as the ruler of the city now I’m a ruler of the surrounding land too. I’m a real Princess now ain’t I? No, I’m a Queen actually, but that’s just formality.

It’s only me who has stupid ideas like foreign nobles will try to marry me from now on? No one approached me as of yet. Or they did not dare. Maybe I just don’t know because they were stopped forcefully by Neth and the others.

I’m a cute, ignorant young maiden waiting to be destroyed- is what I might look to other countries. There is also the option that they know everything and don’t dare to approach the 600 year old crazy loli. Such a nice way of thinking.

I spend all morning reading and find some clues about organic magic. My healer can regrow limbs but they are too stupid to invent new things… I can just modify the spell to recreate my skin and flesh. It’s not a state fixing magic, nor regeneration but cosmetic surgery. It did not exist in the game. This sounds horrible. NPC’s don’t know about it, but it’s awkward for me to admit I had one.

Ah shit. I killed the subjects yesterday, I can’t test my magic on them. I also don’t want to ruin more life than I has to.

Let’s… use a potato. Wrong joke. Let’s experiment on an animal. Same evil in my opinion but for some kind of reason others think it’s more normal.

I’m not an animal fanatic or anything. I just accept reality. Humans are animals. Yes, they are evolved and became clever, but the thing that changed from monkeys is the capacity and speed. Not the pattern itself.

Humans are monkeys that learn faster and be able to use their brains for (relative) useless things. Even an animal can understand speech and react if taught properly. Also, there is no difference between an AI animal and AI npc. The same code with different restrictions. They are living, breathing(also relatively) beings.

For me to kill an animal here is the same as killing an npc. Such depressive thinking won’t help me sadly.

Giving up on pressing the matter anymore I casually go to the stables. If I remember correctly there are a giant rats living there. They are usually fed to the dragons. During walking I try to stay away from anyone who could see me, even the maids. I don’t want them to make unnecessary rumours about my wound.

I’m not the kind to order around a person I don’t trust enough for the task, I like acting with my own hands. This sounded like something a serial killer would say. Anyways, i grab a (not)cute furball and bring it back to my Lab. I should just call it torture room for now on. Using a knife I cut one of it’s leg off, then heal it with magic. The leg slowly starts to regenerate, but in exchange empties my mana instantly. Of course such high level magic won’t be easy without skills.

I sit down and meditate while watching as the leg of the animal regenerates slowly. Since I don’t want to waste time, I produce a few slave collards during the break. I make one with [Dark Mithril] for experiment. It’s a bit stronger than steel and it’s a special material. It’s the best mana conducting metal in my possession.

I add a larger mana stone and program it to siphon absolutely all mana from the user. This is a precaution against Testers. This should be something that the slave will never be able to remove without help.

If a mage is as good at this as me, they can easily take the normal collar off themselves. The mana siphon one requires very high proficiency. This, however will siphon their mana into absolute zero, making them almost faint. Even if they are capable of removing it, they won’t have the mana to do so. This is a dangerous object even towards me. No, I would die if I tried to wear this.

I’m a magical creature. I can live without eating or breathing, but using mana to do such a thing is wasteful. The normal slave collar might destroy my regeneration but I could just eat like humans. This however would cut me off and as a fairy I would die shortly after without any mana.

As I’m ready with it, I realise that my hobby got me better. This slave collar is beautiful. I could give this as a present to another queen and make her my slave without any suspicion. That’s just how amazing the design is.

Back to the animal. It seems it’s a success. Although there is no fur, the skin seems ok. And now, let’s alter it.

I cast magic on the creature forcefully, recreating the skin on it. As it involved some pain, the animal tried to communicate it with me.

“Don’t worry this is the last and you are free.” I say smiling.

When I finish I check the new skin in the leg. It’s the same as mine. It’s human-like skin, but it starts to devolve shortly after. This is what would happen to me without magic.

The skin slowly melts and becomes undead like. Nasty. I cut the whole thing off and cast the full regeneration spell again. I add some pain reducing with my last bit of mana, and take the poor creature back safely to it’s home. They will stay away from me now on, probably.

Now, I’m the next. Maybe the whole thing I did was useless, but I’ll never experiment on myself first. That is certain. With the newly made slave collars inside my dimension pocket, I begin the painful repairing on myself.
