《Far Behind》Invasion 76 - Invasion

There were only two emotions that filled Quin’s mind. The first one was the desire to protect his loved ones; the second, a boundless hatred for the Shriekers. There were no creatures on the face of the earth that he loathed more, and when he saw one, he wanted nothing more than to kill it. They had killed two of his precious friends and turned his world upside down. Even though he was grateful that he had lost his cultivation back then, as it made him realize his past mistakes and it started him on a new path of cultivation that seemed to be even stronger than his previous one, that did not change anything. Those vile creatures obviously did not do it just to make his life better, but simply because they wanted to eradicate his kind.

The Shriekers were at the other side of the lake, so he decided he would directly cross the lake. He had never tried to walk or run on the surface of water, but he was sure that his speed would be enough for that.

At the border of the water and the shore, he made a jump with all of his power.

BOOM!

A sound of explosion could be heard as the ground cracked and sank down where his feet had been. He was flying lightning fast and felt the pressure of the cold air, even if to him it was negligible.

With a single jump he had crossed half of the lake in just a few moments, and due to the previous booming sound he had made, the Shriekers on the other side were watching him intently.

He kicked against the water and indeed, just like he had assumed he was able to jump off of the surface of the lake.

The Shriekers did not have to wait for a long time, and as Quin reached the other shore he swiftly jumped right at one of them. When he was close enough, he grabbed onto its shoulder and punched with his enormous strength at its head. Before any of them would have had the chance to act, its head exploded into smithereens.

It was not enough for Quin, however, and he put his other hand on the creature’s other shoulder. Then, a strange plopping sound resounded as Quin basically tore the Shrieker into two parts. As he turned around to face its companions a truly savage look could be seen on his face.

It was a similar feeling of what he had experienced during his hunt in the Fengyu forest, and he even noticed how at first the egg started to become active again. However, it was a lot different from that, as although he let hate fill him, he was fully conscious.

There was something he had found funny even in this situation: just after he tore the Shrieker into two he felt how the egg inside his mind shuddered in fear.

Quin had no idea why it acted like that, as he had never experienced it doing something similar before, but he had no time to ponder on it. He knew that this time he was in complete control, and still had enemies to fight.

There were only three of them remaining now, and he leapt at the closest one without hesitation. Just like with the previous one, it had no time to react either and Quin barraged it with a row of punches until its upper body was nothing more.

The other two had already started to shoot out their long tongues at him, as they thought that they would have a higher chance of success with a ranged attack. Obviously, they could not compare to him in strength, so he was in no danger.

He watched as the tongues he had previously considered lightning fast shoot toward him in nearly slow-motion. When they reached him, he swiftly grabbed them with his hands and jumped back while pulling on them.

The results were quite frightening. Quin had in each of his hand a very long tongue that had been ripped out from the two Shriekers, and in turn, both of them were severely bleeding purple colored blood from their mouths.

Alright, I don’t have time to play. There could be a lot more of them and I have to get to Faiyi’s as soon as I can! His mother and Fei would both currently be paying a visit to Faiyi.

Quin leapt at the other two and exploded the head of both of them with two simple backhanded slaps.

Next, he headed toward where Faiyi lived with Xia and Zhang with all the speed he could muster. He had encountered numerous Shriekers during his way, and unsurprisingly killed each of them in mere moments.

One part of him was worried sick, but his other part was greatly enjoying himself. He was aware that taking such a pleasure in killing and shredding his enemies into pieces may signify that he was not entirely right in the head. Yet, after some initial hesitation he decided to not care about it.

Well, I probably already have a few problems, so what does an extra one matter? Quin joked about it in his head. Besides they are just Shriekers! They kill and destroy. Their only goal is to make us suffer and eradicate us, then what should I worry about?! I know that I couldn’t do something like this with humans and that’s what matters, not these vile and evil monsters!

With that, he continued on.

He could have been there in only a minute or two with his fastest speed, but there were a lot of enemies he had to face, which consequently slowed him down by a significant amount.

Just ahead of him he saw another group of Shriekers and then noticed that they were circling around someone who was already on their knees. Damn, I have to get their attention!

“Come, here! You damn sons of bitches!” He yelled from the top of his lungs. His shout turned out to be so loud that even he was shocked for a moment.

He quickly gathered himself and then took out a stone, which he had previously grabbed thinking that it might come in handy, out of his pocked. Aiming so that the stone would fly through more than one of them, he threw it without hesitation. It went straight into the head of one of them who fell down to the ground the next moment. Unfortunately, the stone only had a single victim as it shattered into pieces inside of the Shrieker’s head.

Damn I was stupid! He sighed mentally, as he had only now realized that it was just a simple piece of rock and not a weapon that was made out of a strong material.

Naturally, it did not stop him, and he was already running at the crowd of Shriekers whose attention he had luckily drawn away. After throwing out a couple of punches and slaps, they were no more, and only the purple colored bloody gore remained behind.

Quin looked at the person he had just saved. She was a girl about fourteen years old with jet black hair and a slim body. He thought that she was probably quite popular among the boys, but not in her current state. Her hair was a mess and her clothes were tattered, barely covering her more intim parts. Besides, her whole body was covered in dirt and blood and she had a couple of bruises as well.

Damn, poor girl.

He squatted down and asked, “Are you alright?”

She did not answer and was trembling in fear. Quin put his hand on her back, trying to console her.

“Hey, don’t worry,” he said. “You’re safe, I’ve killed all of them.”

The girl looked at him and her previously empty eyes turned back to somewhat normal, but her face was still covered with fear.

“Dad... Mom... They are...” she said weakly and started to cry. It did not need a genius to figure out her source of worry.

“Come,” he said standing up and then stretching his hand out to her. “We’ll get them. Where are they?”

Though he was quite worried about his mother and Faiyi, he could not leave this girl or her parents to die. Besides, he knew that the area they were living at was a highly populated one, which had several stronger people and an outpost as well, so he assumed a small delay would not hurt significantly. Moreover, although he did not know his mother’s exact strength -- somehow he could never gauge it or her element -- from her stories he knew that she had travelled around a lot, even when alone. Maybe Ade Lai could be considered quite safe for even a weaker human, but his mother told him that she had often ventured into the Wilderness, which was always dangerous. Thus Quin knew that even if his mother would not be able to face a horde of Shriekers, she definitely would be able to stand her ground for some time.

Still, making a decision against his instinct that told him to go to his mother as soon as possible was rather difficult, but he knew his mother well and also knew that she would be urging him to do the same thing.

The girl looked at him surprised at first, but then realization hit her and pointed to the other side of the lake.

“They are at the other shore?” he asked and the girl nodded.

Hm, but how did she get here then? He looked around for a moment and noticed a boat not too far away from them. So, the Shriekers had attacked them and her parents thought that sending her to the other shore would be safer? But then, why didn’t they come as well? he wondered.

“Do you have some strength left?” he asked.

The girl hesitated and then nodded resolutely, but after trying to stand up she just collapsed back down.

“Alright, then no piggy backing,” he said and lifted her in a princess style carry. Then, he started running to the other shore, making sure not to accelerate so fast that normal people would faint from the force without their qi.
