《Sasha》47. ~Panic~

Chapter Ten Sasha knocked on the front door, wishing she stood in front of Yatsu's place instead. The door opened and Eva's mom poked her head out, her brown hair, freshly cut, sat on her shoulders. Wearing a tee-shirt and skinny jeans, again, she really didn't look like a mother figure. “Sasha! Come in! It's getting colder out there,” she ushered Sasha in the house. “Eva's almost ready, it's rare for you to walk to school together.” “My boyfriend is staying home this week,” Sasha said. Eva's mom chuckled. “I feel sorry for your parents, someone your size saying she has a boyfriend-” “Mom! Could you give me a hand?” Eva's voice echoed down the hall. Whoa, I've never heard Eva call out like that. “You go help her,” Eva's mom said, catching Sasha's surprise. “I'm sure she wouldn't mind.” Sasha placed her bag down, and kicked her shoes to the side before sneaking to Eva's room. “Mom?” Eva called out again. Staring into her dresser's mirror, she held up her hair behind her. She was still in her PJ's. “I can help with that,” Sasha said from the doorway. Eva spun around and her eyes lit up. “Sasha!” Sasha walked in and went to work, noting that Eva had dolled up more than usual. She stunk of perfume too. “Planning on dating someone today?” Sasha asked. No, I bet she's going to- “I'm going to see Braxton after school today.” Sasha stopped what she was doing and glared at her through the mirror. “No,” Eva panicked. “We're broken up, I just... want to see him. Make sure he's okay,” Eva hung her head and twiddled her thumbs. You wouldn't be dressing this nice for a little visit, Eva! Sasha went back to work on Eva's hair. She can't go alone. “Then I'm going with you.” “What?” Eva's eyes widened in the mirror before she spun around. “Why?” “To make sure my best friend doesn't do anything stupid,” Sasha answered and gestured for Eva to spin back around so she could finish her hair. Eva obeyed. “You aren't going to hurt him, are you?” A shudder crawled through Sasha, and she hid a small grin while applying the finishing touches. “How is it?” Sasha asked. Changing the topic. Eva admired herself in the mirror. “I look like a model.” “A pajama model,” Sasha laughed. “Hurry up and get dressed, I'll wait outside.” Sasha left the room. “Sasha,” Eva's mom called her over to the kitchen. Sasha rolled her eyes but wandered over and sat down. “I'd like to meet your family. You've been a good friend to my daughter and-” “My parents are never around,” Sasha interrupted. Eva's mom raised an eyebrow. “I heard you had sisters? Surely your parents come home and fix you something to eat.” Sasha shook her head. “That's me.” Eva's mom opened her mouth but closed it again. Why now? Sasha looked Eva’s mom in the eye. “Mom and Dad are always at work. They come home once every two months and stay a week, tops. They are never home. I've been taking care of my twin sisters since I turned thirteen. Before that, we had a nanny, and she...” Sasha clenched her fists. “...we didn't like her,” Sasha finished, and let it go before her mind wandered to far. Eva walked into the kitchen carrying her backpack, and wearing a coat. “Ready to go, munchkin?” Eva's mom asked her. Eva blushed. “Don't call me that in front of...” she trailed off. “Sasha, let's go,” she turned toward the front door. Sasha joined her and pulled on her shoes. “I love you!” Eva's mom called out from the kitchen. Eva's blush deepened. She took a breath and shouted back, “I love you too.” “I love you more-” Eva slammed the door closed behind them.

Azarinth Healer
A new world with nearly unlimited possibilities. A status, classes, magic and monsters. Sounds good? Well, for Ilea it didn't come quite as expected as for some other protagonists, nor was there a king or god to welcome her. The grand quest? Well, she might figure that out someday but for now, a new world with new food is prize enough. Her fists at the ready, she's prepared to punch and get punched, however long it takes and however many limbs she might have to regrow. A story I've started writing now quite a while ago. Transported to another world, somewhat standard fantasy setting with my beginner attempts to make it dark but funny. There are Litrpg elements here but I do hope it's not too heavy and annoying. The fights should be interesting and aren't just numbers vs numbers. Contrary to the title the protagonist will be quite an offensive fighter. Ilea Spears is your average sarcastic kick-boxing fast food worker and soon to be student. She will be transported to another world rather conventionally and will be confronted with survival in the wild. Give it a shot and let me know what you think. My experience is incredibly lacking. If you find yourself hating it early on, do convey your anger in a detailed comment or review :) I want to get better but without any feedback it's simply quite difficult. Quick heads up: Around chapter 120 there are a bunch of longer PoV changes that I discontinued again shortly after. The Arc around chapters 150-200 is darker than the rest and the themes shift quite a bit. Just know that it goes back to what you've come to know after that section. Thank you for reading. Quick update June 2019: Many complaints regarding the formatting, specifically spacing in conversations and of course the usage of the present tense in the first 36 chapters have been addressed. I'm of course learning by the day but compared to how it was before it should be an improvement at least. Chapters usually around 3k words Cover art by Kevin Catalan

Flame Beneath The Snowfall
Alto is a world governed by Tones. Magic, as one might call it. Manifested through deep mental and physical conditioning, one can control the Tones in a way that is unique to them. The power to store items in gems, transfer life, affect a person's mind, and even the more primal abilities such as control of the elements. Those who have these supernatural abilities are called 'Vassals.' People that fully manifest their abilities are not as common as one might think, and not all Vassals acquire their ability through practice, given if conditions are met. In fact, those who had received much trauma manifest the Tones more frequently, albeit spontaneously. However, the rare kind of Vassals are those who manifest it from childhood. A gift, but not without its repercussions. Alto is stuck in a transitional era, where the line between modern and dated technology is blurred. One can travel to a city that has a tall skyline, bustling with people in sophisticated clothing, or a mere town governed by a lord, all the while riding on a powered vehicle. Cultures vary: Some turn to the more dated practices such as castes, others are more inclined to set equal footing on their people, led by nobility. Some are dedicated to become scholars, studying Alto's Tones, while others set foot on hunts, protecting lone towns from the creatures of some of the still-untamed lands. And the Vassals? Those willing are took under The Organization, an elusive group, its presence said to permeate all throughout Alto, taking care of Rogue Vassals that abuse their abilities and other businesses related to their side. But what is this story all about, you may ask? Well, set your sights on the upper portions of this huge landmass that is Alto. Yes, the 'whole' world is called Alto, but that is because the majority of the known people live on this large continent. Relieve yourself of the worrying tensions everywhere, and see the white snow. Trace the piercing mountaintops and focus your eyes between the valley. A town sits there. Mido. After realizing that the memories only left in his mind was the night of his town's imminent destruction in flames, a boy finds himself grasping for every fiber of his life as he lays down flat on the ground. Beneath him was soot mixed with the white snow. Fortunately, a group of investigators, who were supposed to answer their call for help, saved him from his sorry state. With a newfound second wind, but hampered by his loss of memory, he must solve his own case: Who had the audacity to set Mido, his town, aflame? Flame Beneath the Snowfall focuses on action, with a sense of adventure, but mostly the discovery of an outside world, and the protagonist's exposure to it. Add in a whisk of soft magical elements, and you get a story that I hope will be interesting to the readers. That is not to say that my work is without the sense of unnerving atmosphere, however. As a forewarning, there are elements of gore, horror, minor elements of mental trauma, etc. so it is not for all audiences. *The book is already completed. Although I have plans to continue the story (it would have to involve much larger scope in terms of world-building), I have yet to decide when to start the next entry.
