《Odd Heroes》Chapter 26-Zeynar | A Wild Seraphim Found!

Zeynar giggled as he roamed the hallways. What should he do, what should he do? It was nighttime, and oh, how many possibilities there were! So many kiddies, so many toys! He’d already pulled off a prank in the bedroom of a stuffy old bureaucrat, it was up to him to find it.

Zeynar passed by the closed doors which lined the hallway. His fingers twitched. They were all lying in bed, all sleeping. They had no idea what was coming next!

Snickering, he started walking faster until he was in front of a bigger set of doors, made from ivory wood. Opening them carelessly, he strode in.

“Oh, my sweet Memmy, how I have missed you!” Zeynar’s eyes targeted the lump on her bed and he flew towards her, wrapping his arms around her. “Did you miss me? Did you miss me? Did you-wait a second.”

Zeynar moved his hands over the lump and a frown formed. He threw off the blankets to find a bunch of pillows.

“Memmy! No, my sweet Memmy is gon-!”

“Oh, shut up,” a new voice reprimanded.

Zeynar froze in a ridiculous pose, his arms outstretched into the air with his back curved. He slowly turned to find his beloved sitting behind her desk.

“Memmy!” Zeynar snapped out of it and dashed toward her.

“Um, no.” She held up her hand and Zeynar stopped, sniffling.

“Memmy?” Zeynar asked, his voice cracking and tears starting to come out of his eyes.

Memmy sighed. “Why are you here?”

Zeynar smiled. “I’m here for you, Memmy! It’s been so long!” Zeynar took this time to imprint the memory of her into his mind. She was beautiful as ever, with long curly brown hair cascading down her back. A pair of rimstone glasses were on her nose, complimenting her “Idiot Glare” she only gave to him. Her figure was nice and curvy, with an hourglass look to it.

“Stop looking, you’re making me uncomfortable,” she said without looking up from her work.

Zeynar clicked his tongue. “What are you doing here! We should be far away, living together in bliss, not stuck here working! How about it?!” His eyes sparkled. Maybe today was the day his beloved finally agreed?

“Yeah, until you get bored,” she replied.

Zeynar gasped, clutching at his heart. Was she suggesting he would leave her? “Never! My heart belongs only to you!”

She rolled her eyes. “Can you leave?”

Zeynar pouted adorably (or so he believes). “Why? Didn’t you miss me?”

Memmy scratched out a couple of words before responding. “Whenever you’re around, there’s always pranking.”

Zeynar smirked. “Oh, so this is what everything’s about. Well, don't worry!”

Her eyes narrowed. “And why would I worry?”

Zeynar unfortunately did not catch the warning tone. And it wasn't his fault! His love blinded him with its brilliant rays.

“Because you’re jealous!” Zeynar smiled, sure he was correct.

Memmy was frozen in place. Zeynar adopted a worried look. “You all right, sweetie?”

“Me? Jealous?” she suddenly said in a low voice. Zeynar was taken back. What was this intense aura?!

“YOU IDIOT!”

SMACK!

A few minutes later, Zeynar was rubbing his aching cheek. “You didn’t have to hit that hard, you know!” he complained. Memmy cracked her knuckles in response and Zeynar shivered.

Still, it was good to see her spirits back up. Now, if only he could get something else up as well. . . . .

“Come on! Let’s dance!”

“No.”’

“Karaoke?”

“No.”

“Ballet?”

“Wh-what? No!”

Zeynar slouched down and Memmy sighed. “Why are you really here?”

Zeynar didn't want to reply, but his beloved's gaze was boring into his mind. He looked at anywhere but her when he shouted, “I’m bored!”

There was no response and he turned back to Memmy. She was shivering, her hand breaking the pen. “Y-you-you’re b-bored?”

Zeynar cocked his head. Why was she stuttering? Not that he minded, it was adorable! “Heh heh, you kno-“

“Get out.”

He paused. “What?”

“Get out.” Her voice was cold and firm. Zeynar felt his stomach drop.

“But why?!” he wailed.

Memmy growled. “Whenever one of you gets ‘bored’, disaster strikes. And I don’t want you to do it here.”

“But if you’re so worried, shouldn't you treat me with respect? I could burn this whole place down!” Of course, he couldn't. It was home to his beloved after all, not to mention the beating she would give him for destroying her work.

“You destroyed any respect I had for you a long time ago. Now leave!” She clambered over the desk and began shoving him towards the door. He stood his ground.

“You’re throwing me out just for being bored? Isn’t this a bit much?” he strained as Memmy threw in her back.

“The last time you were bored, it resulted in London burning to the ground, so yes, I am a bit rude right now.” She kicked him in the private part.

“OOOOOOHHH!” Tears came to Zeynar’s eyes. Why was his beloved doing this?!

Memmy kicked him out and locked the door. Zeynar sniffled and picked himself up from the floor. “Let me back in!”

“NO!”

Zeynar sighed and appeared on top of her bed again.

“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me,” he heard her whisper.

Zeynar oozed smugness. “You ain’t getting rid of me that easily, darling.”

Memmy clasped her hands together. “Sorry about this, old friend. It’s you or me,” she whispered. She straightened up and cleared her throat. “So, if I give you a distraction, will you leave us be?”

Zeynar pretended to consider it. “I might.” He would never leave her, obviously, but if this ‘distraction’ was good enough, he might leave the rest alone.

“She’s back,” was her cold reply.

Zeynar chuckled and shook his head. “You're throwing a friend under the bus? How shameless, Memmy! I love it!”

Memmy didn’t look up as she focused intently on her paper. “The Immortal King lives.”

Zeynar froze. His mind was going haywire. The Immortal King? No, that’s impossible. He still remembered the day when the Immortal King fell.

“You lie.” His hands shook, tears starting to fall out. “I saw the death. I felt it resonate. The Immortal King is no more.”

If it wasn’t Memmy, the person who brought him this news would have died. As it was, Memmy shook her head.

“The king is alive.”

Memories came back, memories Zeynar thought he’d long destroyed. Of a castle, of warriors and knights, of folklore and grand tales. A figure, who always loomed over him with grace and dignity, a true king.

“Is it true?” His voice cracked.

Memmy nodded. “We’ve confirmed it. You’re the first we told.”

Zeynar couldn’t hear her anymore. The king was alive. His friend was back. Slowly, a smile slid over his face.

“Well then, I thank you for this news. I’ll be going now.”

Memmy’s eyes widened. “You’re leaving? How important was this news? And how do you even know the king?”

Zeynar chuckled. “Let’s just say you've given me even more of a reason to love you.”

She blushed and crossed her arms. “Idiot.”

Zeynar’s heart burst. She was so cute!

“Are you going to be gone for long?” Memmy asked her brows together.

Zeynar laughed. “Don’t worry your pretty little head, I’ll still come by. Right now, I’ve just got to do something.”

Memmy frowned. “Pranks?”

“Something like that. See ya!”

Zeynar walked to the window behind her, flung it open, and dropped to the ground. He waved up to her and began walking through the streets. Never let it be said he didn’t possess any style.

He hummed to himself as he walked. He’d come in hoping for a jewel and came out with a diamond. Both Memmy and the king? What a beautiful day it was.

A shrill scream split the peaceful sky and Zeynar smiled. Looks like the bureaucrat found it. He wondered if he fell into the portal Zeynar had placed right next to the bed. Oh well, he would be fine. Another version of himself would probably save him.

Right now though, he needed to think up some more pranks.
