《Odd Heroes》Chapter 4-Brandon | This Little Girl Embarrassed Me Too

Brandon hadn’t been expecting much today. Lucifer was out shopping for their journey to Neverstien, so it was only him. He had gotten driven to the arcade for some friendly fun and as expected, had been immediately swarmed by fans. Brandon smirked. These fans were so simple; they saw a rich guy, the son of a world-famous hero, and wealth. Immediately, they tripped over themselves to do anything for him. He loved it and embraced it with open arms. It never got old.

All in all, it was a normal day. There was one girl that caught his attention though. She had flaming hair and golden eyes that contrasted brilliantly against her pale skin. Still, she was just a teenage girl; he'd yet to find one who could resist his roguish charms. Even his childhood friend, Amber, occasionally blushed whenever she saw him with his shirt off.

He had approached her, expecting some resistance. She was a redhead, after all. However, she had barely said anything. Instead, she smacked his hand off and just walked right past him. Him! Like he was some nobody creep who wasn't relevant! Brandon closed his fist. What did he care?

The fans still followed him as he went around, watching people play games. Most of the games here, he could play at home. The only real reason he came was for some people to play with, but it wasn't as if he could ask somebody here to play with him. They were way too love-struck for that. During his exploration, he continued eying the red-headed girl out of the corner of his eyes and spotted her meeting up with a younger child; cute, around 8 years old, maybe her younger sister? Completely different hair color though.

The two of them were playing the famous game, Fight and Bash, and were evenly matched. Brandon smirked. This should be fun. Eventually, the younger girl lost, her avatar vanishing in a shimmer of diamonds. In a fit of rage, she punched the game, only to yell when the pain hit her. The flame-headed girl immediately started comforting the younger girl, whispering soothing words.

Brandon confidently walked over and sat down on the recently vacated seat. His crowd of adoring fans dutifully followed like sheep, encircling the three of them in a tight ring. The girl and her sister must have noticed the sudden increase in noise. Looking up, the girl saw Brandon sitting in the seat. He gave her his best smile, intending to charm her right off the gates.

“What do you want?” There was clear annoyance tinging her voice, and he raised his hand in mock mercy.

“I want to play a game with you. I mean, this is an arcade, after all, right?”

“No. Sorry, but we're going to play a different game now.” The response was instantaneous. Brandon might have thought this would happen so he targeted the only known weakness of the girl; the sister.

He bent down to her level. “Hey. Do you want to see your big sister and me play?”

“She’s not my-“ the girl began.

“Sure!” the sister replied, and Brandon had a cocky grin on his face. The girl sighed, rubbing her face. Brandon felt a little bad; he hadn't wanted to bother her that much. He promised himself that if he lost this match, he'd leave her alone. His fan club was starting to send the girl death-glares as well, and he really didn't need for her to receive threatening emails because of this.

“Fine! One game! And you pay," she insisted. Maybe she hoped that would deter him from wanting to play? It was going to take a lot more than that, though.

Brandon held up his hands. “No problem.” He slipped in the ticket and grabbed the controllers. She did the same, with more reluctance though. This was going to be easy. She had trouble with that child! But should he drag it out a little bit longer? Make her feel better about herself, that she was able to play a game with the son of a hero on somewhat equal terms? The girl selected Full Force, and he settled on Nevermore; as if there was any other option than his father.

“Begin!” the game said.

Immediately, she launched a barrage of attacks at him. Taken back, he was forced on the defense, making his father lift up his arms in order to block the attacks. When Full Force's stamina meter hit zero, he launched his father over her head and landed behind her. Turning around, he made his father shoot a blast of wind into Full Force. The hero jumped over the attack and hovered in midair, an orb of energy charging in between her hands

Brandon panicked. That was an Ultimate Move! If it landed, he'd have a lot more trouble winning the match! Smashing the buttons, he made his father conjure up a dome of wind to protect himself. Full Force finished her charge up and shot the beam at Nevermore, colliding with the shield. The screen went white for several seconds, and he could only hope that his father survived.

When the screen was visible again, Brandon exhaled in relief. His father was still alive, with his health bar hovering at just above half. Full Force had barely 75% left and was left stunned after the Ultimate Move. Brandon capitalized on this chance, utilizing a combo move. His father grabbed Full Force by the neck, slammed her to the ground, and smacked her in the face with a tornado. Her health was at 38% now! Using the hold button, Brandon made his father begin to draw the oxygen out of Full Force, and her health began to drop. He smirked. Victory was his!

Full Force suddenly exploded, blasting his father backward and taking away more than 25% of his health. As Brandon struggled to maintain his composure, Full Force dashed towards Nevermore. Brandon grit his teeth; it was now or never! He made Nevermore jump into the air and Full Force reacted by jumping as well. However, just as soon as she jumped, he made Nevermore slam into the ground, and uppercut Full Force. The sight of seeing her health bar decrease to 0 was the most magnificent sight he'd seen all day. The Victory announcement that flashed on his screen was a close second.

The girl stepped out from the other side of the game and picked up her sister again. "Congratulations. I'm going to be leaving now. Goodbye," she said stiffly before turning to walk away. The fans parted like the Red Sea as she walked away, perhaps unused to seeing somebody turn their back on Brandon.

Brandon smirked and slicked back a part of his hair that'd fallen over his face, eliciting shrieks of joy from his fans. He may have won, but she'd played so well, it was only right to let her go. Besides, this was a clear sign he needed to get much stronger if he wanted to become number 1 in the world, even in games!

It was only too bad he would never see her again; after all, he was going to the Academy. What were the chances of seeing her there?
