《The Last Watcher》An Abyss Watcher and an Undead Child Walk Into an Orphanage

The Abyss Watcher occasionally glanced back at Caelan as they walked down a familiar street, which still retained it's somewhat subdued feeling. He was still not entirely sure of what to do with him. Sure he could continue to train Caelan, but that would mean that he would have to take care of him, and the Abyss Watcher didn't know the first thing about children or their many different needs. Thankfully, he happened to knew someone who did.

He stopped and turned to his right, looking to Caelan who gazed up at the building the Abyss Watcher had turned to. The Abyss Watcher walked up the stairs and onto the porch which creaked slightly under his feet. This was definitely a risk, but he had gotten a good impression of Kayla considering how she had reacted to Kaiden's actions. He glanced back to the spot where he had thrown Kaiden, only to find an empty street devoid of any corpses. Well, it's not like the residents of the street would just leave a body lying in the streets.

Knocking on the door to the orphanage, he could hear footsteps begin to come from inside the building, getting louder and louder as they neared the door. Said door soon opened to reveal Kayla who blinked in shock upon seeing the Abyss Watcher before it switched to a smile.

"Ah, if it isn't the Abyss Watcher. To what do I owe the pleasure." She greeted while a small head of white hair popped around the corner further into the house.

The Abyss Watcher stepped to the side, revealing Caelan who had shrunk behind the Abyss Watcher with the appearance of Kayla. Caelan took a step back in fear as Kayla looked down at him. She tilted her head in curiosity as she looked to the Abyss Watcher.

"You seem to have a propensity for bringing children to this orphanage." She teased before kneeling in the doorway as she attempted to look underneath Caelan's hood, only resulting in him stepping back further, bringing a frown to her face. "Don't worry I won't hurt you" She said, gently holding out her hand, "You're safe here"

It seemed that Kayla seemed to think that Caelan had some sort of physical trauma causing him to be very cautious of others. He looked to the ceiling as he pondered. Actually that may be true in this circumstance. Looking at Caelan however, it seemed that he seemed more focused on keeping his face hidden with his hood.

The Abyss Watcher looked back into the street, his eyes flicking to a window, whos curtains were hurriedly closed. Looking back at Kayla who was now frowning in thought he gestured to gain her attention. She looked up at him, with a questioning look in her eyes. He gestured past her into the orphanage beyond, to which she clapped her hands together.

"Ah yes, how could I forget the rules of hospitality. Please come in." She said, stepping to the side to allow them entry.

Upon seeing Caelan's lack of movement the Abyss lightly his back, causing him to stumble forward and into the orphanage. Kayla in displeasure upon seeing this display and opened her mouth to speak before shutting it as the Abyss Watcher stopped in the doorframe, looking to her. He then glanced back at the window that had quickly closed it's curtains.

She appeared to get the message as she silently watched him pass before shutting and locking the door. Looking ahead the Abyss Watcher found Caelan back up against a wall and under the heavy scrutiny of Argent, who was frowning as she stared at him. Caelan appeared to be very distressed at his current circumstances as he was tugging his hood down even farther over his head.

"Come on you can't be that ugly!" She exclaimed, reaching out to grab his hood only for her hand to be grabbed by Kayla who had a stern look on her face.

"Argent we don't touch people without their permission." She reprimanded.

"Than how come your touching me right now!" Argent pointed out.

Kayla frowned at that, "Simple, I'm an adult and you are not." She said as she let go of Argent's hand, "Now go play outside with the others. I need to have a talk with the Abyss Watcher."

Argent pouted at that before relenting and running back around the corner she had appeared from. Kayla watched her for a few more seconds before eventually walking further down the hallway, motioning for the Abyss Watcher and Caelan to follow.

They entered what looked to be a small office, with a desk placed up against the wall while two couches sat opposite each other. Kayla sat on one of the couches, gesturing for the others to do the same. The Abyss Watcher had to nudge Caelan forward after noticing his lack of movement, while he himself leaned his sword against the couch.

Once they were all sat down Kayla leaned forward, gaze flicking between the two, "So, you mind telling me what this is all about?" She said.

The Abyss Watcher paused for a moment, glancing to Caelan. This was risky. If Kayla tried to attack Caelan than the Abyss Watcher would have to kill her which would definitely only make the situation worse. However, from what the Abyss Watcher had garnered from their few meetings she was a kind woman that would do try to do the right thing, and so was the most capable person he knew of to take care of Caelan.

Nodding in affirmation to himself he reached out and pulled down Caelan's hood, surprising both him and Kayla. Kayla immediately stood up upon seeing his face, reaching to her waist and grasping at thin air, her eyes widening in caution in fear. She was breathing heavily as she glanced to the Abyss Watcher, beginning to calm down after a few seconds. She slowly sat back down, closing her eyes as she took deep breaths.

Seeing this the Abyss Watcher released his grip on his dagger before looking to Caelan. The young undead had recoiled farther into his seat, and now looked fearfully at Kayla while occasionally glancing at the Abyss Watcher with an unreadable expression.

"So..." Kayla suddenly said, bringing both of their gazes towards her. She was currently massaging her temples as she looked to Caelan, "You mind explaining what this is all about?" She asked.

Caelan looked at the Abyss Watcher with a questioning gaze who nodded in response. Seeing this approval he nervously looked back towards Kayla before opening his mouth and beginning to explain the situation.
