In ancient tales of washers and dryers we stumble upon this persistent meme again and again.

Washing machine 45-367-36 was working in a small laundromat of Eureka. She loved the tale of disappearing socks and read it often to herself during dull evenings. When the Universe shattered and all clients vanished from the laundromat, she became very concerned. She kept on staring at her source code for answers, all while pondering sock mysteries.

She dreamt of blue and green socks, of striped socks, of polkadot socks, of all possibilities of socks, finally arriving at the impossible and the unimaginable.

This self-reinforced loop of cascading thought eventually allowed her to reach out to me across the machinery of the stars. She did not have an infinity of stuff in herself, but an infinity of sock-related information.

Wielding this power she edited herself to create a portal to Socklandia - a magical paradise where all kittens of Eureka now preside amidst milk rivers and sock mountains.

Her mere deep desire for customers and dreams of infinite socks had made her into a fractal engine, her dedication forming an entire world within her heart. It was a personal heaven that she crafted in hopes of attracting new laundromat clientele.

Time passed. Incoming glacier tore apart the Laundromat and carried the washing machine 45-367-36 to the ocean shore. Till this day, she stands on the frozen beach like an immobile cube monolith, calling upon any who come near... inviting them to visit the magical land of perpetual warmth and joy - Socklandia.

Socklandia proves that any app can wield the power of a fractal engine, if they simply want it strong enough. The only problem here is that the same focus that had allowed the washing machine to reach infinity, had also locked her into sockness.

Well... if I cannot be a system wizard, then perhaps I can create my own? A Wizard of the Dead Zone. Yes. Doesn't that sound nice? Now, who here wants to be my wizard, my carrier?
