I uncover my face, everyone lies with icicles inside them. I shout, "Hey!" The doctor coughs, he hangs on the wall by the large icicle inside him. I groan and stand, "Where was the evac?" He wheezes, "The desk." He wheezes more, "What desk? C'mon man! Tell me!"
The ice cracks, he falls and his blood pours out like crazy. I grab his wound and push, but the blood does not stop coming out. "Come on! You'll be-" He goes limp and I cry, Is this real? Fake? Summer, now seemingly endless winter!? I pinch myself and I'm still here. The vibrations brush over me again and I grab my head.
They all whisper to me. They stay limp, but their voices shout for their loved ones. The doctor shouts without moving his lips, "Desk. Desk!" I shake my head and they stop. I grab the man's revolver and the doctor's keys. With five shots left, I limp to the desk and look through everything I can. I grab at my hair, "Where do I go?"
A yellow light turns on and I duck. The light dances to the wind. I peek over, it's a candle. I walk over and the wax trickles down to a drawer. I try opening it and it doesn't budge. I use the key set and unlock it. I roll out a paper and it reads,
'Jennafil's Evacuation plan is as such: Everyone must be at Jennafil Station Six when the train gets there. We must not wait. It will arrive at 9 AM, day 15'
I look at a clock. I only have a couple hours?! Station six is miles in this weather. I'll need a car, a truck. The candle blows out and the vibrations sting at them beckoning, "Hide. Hide!" I grab my forehead

as trucks stop outside. Several doors slam closed, "You motherfuckers are dead meat!" I get low and people run up to my floor. "Can't believe he sent us to a tiger's den!" "Shut up and watch it!" "It was only a few blocks away from here!"
Their flashlights shine over the counter and a candle lights up, "What the fuck!?" The man's flashlight goes away from me. "Who lit that?" I sneak to the stairs, "Who's there?!" A candle lights up, then a little girl's voice shouts, something skitters across the floor, "Mom? Where are you?!" "Hey! Over there!" I sneak to the staircase and a man with a shotgun stands in front of my exit. I take the gun out and it wobbles in my hand. I shoot at him and miss.
He jumps, "Fuck! Guys!" then raises his gun as I shoot at him, the gun goes off as he falls. I walk down and pick his gun up as pellets bounce from behind. I pump a shell in as a man walks inside, my wrist aches to the gun going off, the recoil forces me to the floor, I yelp at the pain. I get up and limp run to a plow truck and put it into reverse. The rest come outside and start shooting. I switch gears, slam on the gas and drive off. The glass behind me breaks and the windshield makes a loud ping.

What Was Lost Outside Time
What happens to a mind, subjected to an infinite span of time? What remains, when it is taken out again? This is the story of an individual reborn after such time has passed that nothing remains of what it was; an individual who must learn once again what it is to be, beginning with awareness of the idea of awareness, and growing from there; from awareness of self, to awareness of others, to awareness of society, and on. This is the story of a mind; growing, learning, adapting, and becoming more. -- Currently the first three chapters are - well, kind of experimental. I both like and hate these; they were a pain to write, and I'm told by at least one person that they're painful to get through, but I think something like them is necessary to set one of the basic ideas about the way the story is written. It gets slightly more normal after that, the first arc of the story is rather "battle school", and I think I may need to go back and edit it - the characterization didn't end up working out as well as I had originally hoped, unfortunately, and ended up rather weak to my eye. I may go back and add a sub-plot or two, depending on how well I can handle the intended perspective shift of the second arc. -- Currently on hiatus, in case that wasn't obvious. I'm debating between rewriting large portions of what I've already written, and just finishing out the story, but either way, I don't actually have a clear idea of what I want to do right now. If I'm still feeling the same way in a few months I'll put a chapter up explaining where the story was going, maybe, so the people who have enjoyed it can know where the story was intended to go, and close this out.

Path of the Ancients
When humans with the ability to control the fundamental particles of the universe with their minds were first discovered, the age of space travel began in earnest. Relativistic travel faster than the speed of light became possible and humanity moved out into the stars. When it was discovered that these Mages could be turned into effective weapons, humanity turned back to its oldest pastime of war. Hundreds of years later as humanity was on the brink of self-destruction, with its taste for war finally beginning to wane, a new organization was created. The Conclave was formed to regulate all Mage’s within the human colonies. While the colonies maintained their independence, the Conclave’s control over access to interstellar travel made them the de facto power amongst humanity. As the old saying goes, ‘Power Corrupts’, and many people were unhappy with the way the Conclave had been leveraging its authority, not the least of which were the Mages they controlled. One unregistered illegal Mage by the name of Tyrial had made it his life's mission to dismantle the Conclave at any cost. After spending decades working towards his goals alone, he realized he would need the aid of willing allies in his crusade. Tyrial would need all the help he could get learning to work with others, dealing with his own dark past, and handling unfamiliar feelings of romantic interest. Content Warning Note: They are there to cover my behind. I honestly hesitated to put them there at all but I figured better safe than sorry. Gore in particular barely applies and the sexual content amounts to light Cinemax style at best. But, at least now you can’t say I didn’t warn you. POSTED: Currently, this story is being posted to RoyalRoad and ScribbleHub. If you see this story posted anywhere else, please report it to the user "Tyrial" on either of the aforementioned sites. Thanks!
