Chapter 52 – Fear the Night, Unsheathe the Saber, Thread the Fate (VI)

Lia was currently facing a very difficult situation.

From the moment when she felt the aura of Aiden fighting an enemy, she had been trying to go towards him nonstop.

However, things were not so easy.

Different from before when she was winning the fight, the current Lia was seriously disadvantaged.

After all, back then the enemies had been trying to win the fight quickly to avoid being targeted by the town guards, causing them to attack hurriedly and leaving the advantage to Lia.

However, their positions had now been reversed.

Lia, having realized the danger that Aiden was facing, was trying to end the fight quickly.

And the two attackers, noticing that it was impossible for them to beat Lia easily, concentrated in preventing her from leaving and going to the rescue of her companion.

Because of it, Lia situation worsened quickly.

The most she was worried about Aiden, the less she was able to calm herself.

Obviously, such state wasn’t adequate during a fight.

Because of it, Lia had already received two injuries after attacking rashly. And the two men, seeing it, had become even more careful; focusing completely in defending and preventing her from leaving.

In turn, it made Lia fight even more crazily.

Lia was sure that she was able to win against the two enemies if she waits and fight calmly.

The thing was, she knew that it was probably impossible for Aiden to endure much longer against his enemy.

She knew that the longer she takes against her two enemies, the less probable is for Aiden to survive.

“Hah!”

Sending her threads against her two attackers, she tried to use them to trap them, but the men, conscious of her intentions, only retreated slightly and attacked her when she was trying to advance.

Seeing the attacks coming against her, Lia was forced to defend to avoid being gravely injured. But when she tried to counterattack, she noticed that the two men had already retreated.

“You…!”

Growing even more irritated, Lia ordered for her threads to attack. Obeying their master, the threads moved crazily trying to overwhelm the two men, but they simply avoided the attack while waiting for Lia to try leave again.

“Damn insects! How you dare to try block my path!”

With a cry of rage, Lia charged against one of the men trying to face him directly. But though her ghostly movements were very powerful, in terms of pure speed, they were unable to be compared to the movements of someone an entire realm above her.

Sending energy to his legs, the targeted men simply retreated avoiding clashing directly with the girl. Currently, their only objective was stall for time. After all, either their companion killing the boy or the girl committing a mistake due desperation, both situations were advantageous for them.

The only problem with their plan though, was that they didn’t know when the town guards were going to come.

Though seeing that they didn’t come even after all this time, they suspected that probably someone of their clan interfered.

Of course, it was impossible for them to know that the one responsible of stopping the town guards wasn’t from their clan. Instead, it was an old man thinking for his student.

Avoiding the threads coming for them and cutting the ones they were unable to avoid, the pair of assassins continued moving around the girls.

“Damn! How can this girl to be such a freak!? I already cut her once, but I don’t see the poison making any effect.”

“She is probably immune to poison.” Answered the other man.

“Immune to poison!? Was she not poisoned when she was fighting yesterday!?”

“It’s probably an effect of her current state.” Said the man again. “It’s probably the reason because she is so strong too.”

Hearing his companion, the first man nodded in understating. After all, it was impossible to not notice the obvious changes in Lia’s body.

Currently, her eyes had become completely red and all her hair changed to a strange combination of many different colors. Not just it, though he wasn’t sure, they had also noticed that some strange marks began to appear in her skin.

With an expression of doubt, the first assassin asked.

“What do you think is it? A spirit?”

“… Probably.” Answered his companion after hesitating slightly.

“But, how is it possible for a core-forming girl to use the power of her spirit?”

“… I don’t know. Probably she was born with such ability. I heard that from time to time there appear some people like it.”

Hearing that words, the first men could not help but put a serious expression.

Though it was difficult to notice, it had already become obvious for them that the girl’s power was increasing constantly during the fight.

In the beginning, they had thought that their perception was mistaken. But with the time, the increase in her power became increasingly significant. Currently, it was obvious that her strength was greater than when the fight first began.

To be sincere, they were not sure about how long they would be able to stop her.

“How is it possible that *** had no killed the boy yet!? At this rate, we will end death before he comes!”

“That boy probably is not so simple either. After all, this girl is so powerful despite her low cultivation. I wouldn’t be surprised if her companion is a freak too.”

“Dammit. What are we going to do then!?”

The other assassin was unable to answer after hearing that question.

In that moment, the threads of Lia attacked the two men again.

With an expression of rage, Lia’s red eyes looked towards the pair impeding her from reuniting with her young master. Then, with a cry, she drew all the energy in her body to attack.

“OUT! OF! MY! WAY!”

From different places, the threads assaulted the two men.

“Damn it!” Doing his utmost to stop all the threads attacking him, one of the men could not help but curse feeling the increasing power behind the threads.

Furiously, Lia ordered all her threads to attack. Then, taking advantage of the moment when the two men were occupied, she tried running towards the place were Aiden was fighting.

But she was unable of doing it.

One of the men, drawing energy from his body, use all his strength to launch an attack against Lia.

Though the attack wasn’t lethal, Lia was forced to stop it. After all, though she was partially immune towards the poison in the blades after borrowing strength from the second soul, she wasn’t able to ignore it completely.

Moving some of the threads around her to stop the attack, Lia tried retaliating again, but the man had already retreated from where he was before.

“Damn it!” Filled with fury, Lia thought in simply taking her time killing the two pests. But knowing the situation of Aiden, she restrained that wish.

But then, she felt something from the place where Aiden’s fight was happening.

A powerful saber intent erupted, trying to stop an attack filled with energy.

But at the end, the saber intent crumbled pitifully.

For some reason, Lia knew.

The current Aiden was only a step away from dead.

Instantly, the energy in the surroundings surged furiously.
