Chapter 39 – An Awkward Kind of Love
Aiden and Lia lips touched slightly.
Sensing the feeling of Aiden’s lips against hers, Lia blushed deeply, surprised.
But after the initial surprise, she closed her eyes and lost herself in the novel sensation.
For a few minutes, the pair kept the kiss without stopping even to breath.
It was almost as if both of them forgot about all the things with exception to each other.
Then, after what felt like an eternity, their lips parted.
Aiden looked towards Lia softly and saw the intoxicated expression in her face.
Before he could enjoy the sight of Lia blushing with an enamored face though, he felt her closing again.
This time, it was her who took the initiative to kiss him.
Lost in the sensation of the last kiss, Aiden was unable of react before the kiss of Lia reached his lips.
Still, even if he could have reacted, he probably would have accepted the kiss without hesitation.
This time, the kiss was even more intimate that the last one.
Both Lia and Aiden were pretty inexperienced in things like it, it was because both of their lives before it were pretty complex.
Aiden was always obeying his family and concentrated in training. And though he had a fiancée, he only saw her once, and the memories of it were not very good.
Lia, for her part, lived a childhood with only experiments in her daily life, reason because she didn’t even know about things related to the opposite sex before meeting Aiden.
And though their relationship was pretty good during the last three years, tonight could be considerate the first time they were beyond hugging and holding each other hands.
For this reason, though their kiss was pretty intimate, it was also a bit awkward.
Of course, neither of them cared about it.
Aiden put all his mind in feeling the lips of Lia. In his back, he could feel the heartbeat of her beloved increasing furiously.

In reality, his own heart was also beating at an incredible speed.
After another few seconds, the second kiss finally reached to an end.
Aiden wasn’t sure, but he thought that his face was probably burning even more than Lia’s.
After breathing for a moment to calm his breath, he looked towards Lia face and saw her eyes looking fixedly towards him.
Then, he unconsciously moved.
Lost in the green eyes of Lia, Aiden didn’t notice exactly what happened. When he reacted, he felt the weight of Lia’s body in his legs.
Hugging her body against his, he inclined his head and looked toward her eyes before smiling and kissing her for the third time.
This time, the kiss was even longer that the two of before.
Aiden only felt Lia’s hand hugging his back with strength. His own hands, unconsciously, were moving all around the body of Lia, feeling the delicate curves of her without any restrain.
For a moment, the mind of both of them became a fog, and the pair was lost in the sensations they were feeling for the first time.
Aiden felt an incredible excitement bubbling from his insides with every second that the pair hugged. Lia, for her part, was making an even more intoxicated expression, making the contrast with her usual gentle self even more erotic.
Feeling the scent of Aiden body against her, Lia lost herself even more in the world being constructed between both of them.
After a time, Aiden even found the clothes between them a hindrance.
But in the moment when he was prepared to take them off, a thought entered at his mind.
Instantly, it was like if a bucket of cold water were thrown in his head.
Looking towards Lia’s face, he kissed his lips softly one last time before hugging her strongly and putting his face over her shoulders.
Then, in a soft and caring, but also apologetic voice, he muttered at her ear.
“Not yet…”

Lia was surprised for a moment, but after a second, she smiled sadly and only nodded with her head.
“Hmm…”
Despite the pain in his heart after hearing the tone in Lia voice, Aiden concentrated all his mind in resisting the desire to continuate, and at the end, only continued hugging her.
“… Lia, let me remain so for a bit more. Only for this night.”
“Yes, young master…”
Aiden sighed softly hearing the pain in Lia voice. Then, after thinking for a moment, he spoke resolute.
“I’m sorry Lia. I promise you that one day it will be different.
“Hmm…”
In the night, the hum of the girl voice sounded strangely desolate.
Aiden love for Lia was truly great, and in normal circumstances he wouldn’t have doubted in take their relation a step forward.
But in the end, he was unable of doing it.
It was precisely because he loved her so much that he was unable.
Because he didn’t want to become the weight dragging her down.
Lia was very talented, and Aiden knew it well. He knew that she would eventually became someone great; perhaps able of overseeing a part of the continent based only in her strength.
But, what about him? At the end, he was someone without a spirit.
Even though tomorrow he would realize the ritual to create an artificial spirit, how could he to be sure of succeeding?
Because of it, he was unable of taking the last step.
He was unable of ridding himself from his insecurity.
Because even though he knew of Lia deep love for him, and that he loved her with equal fervor, he could not endure seeing Lia living all her life like a nobody only to remain at his side.
Even after hearing her words of before, no, precisely because he heard her words, and even after the oath she did tonight, he was unable of allowing himself to potentially destroy her future.
He knew, in the moment when they take the last step, then it would be truly impossible for them to be separated in their entire lives.
You could say that for Aiden, they were not completely tied together until taking the last step.
So, until the moment when he become someone worthy of her, he was determined to restrain himself.
Even if he knew that it was hurting Lia’s heart.
Of course, Lia didn’t think so.
Lia was able of feeling Aiden’s thoughts, and it was probably the reason of her sadness.
After all, for her it was a bit insulting that Aiden thought that her resolution would waver simply for something like having relations or not.
She also knew about Aiden’s insecurities. The reason because she came here tonight was precisely because of it.
But at the end, she was unable of doing anything to change it. No, it was more that she wasn’t willing to shoulder the possible risk of it, at least not yet.
At the end, the barrier impeding further progress of their relationship was the same thing plaguing Aiden from four years ago.
At the end, everything was down at his spirit.
Aiden sighed softly knowing it, then, he closed his eyes and thought about many things.
Now, he was even more determined to succeed tomorrow.
Not only for him, but also for the girl now resting in his arms.
Feeling the sweet aroma of her body against his, Aiden increased his resolution even more.
So, hugging her even more strongly, he let the time pass slowly.
Tomorrow, I must succeed.
With that thoughts in his mind, the night slowly passed by.
Only the moon was able to witness the complicated thoughts of the two.
But even it was unable of noticing the glowing seal* in Aiden’s pouch.
*Note: The seal appeared the first time in the chapter 18, during the arc of the giant boars.

Disclaimer: I'll leave this on here for anyone to read. The last time I uploaded a chapter was nearly a year ago, and to all the readers who still kept their trust in me after I came back from my umpteenth hiatus, I am sorry. I will not carry on writing this; I started off without the correct foundations of a novel, nor commitment to fully finish it and I do not want to lie to you all once again. Maybe one day, I may decide to re-write the novel, with a new basis or at least a comprehensive starting point with many of the narrative errors cleared up; but, till then, this is goodbye. And, once again, thank you for the motivation you gave me. Even now, I see many emails come through with people commenting. Goodbye. A child blessed by the Astral. An unprecedented destiny. Watch his path, as he marches up the stairway of Heaven. A March of a Sovereign. [Adventure, Wuxia, Martial Arts, Fantasy] This is a Qihuan novel; it has eastern and western fantasy elements. More often than not in Xianxia or Xuanhuan there is a severe lack of character development, being a western writer I'm changing that. My characters, from my totally unbiased view, feel fleshed out and actually have emotions. This is my first attempt at a novel, I'm writing as a means to better convey my thoughts. I will, hopefully, steadily improve chapter-by-chapter. I'm very open to feedback and constructive criticism. As one can see this is a cultivation novel, so you know how this goes. I've decided to jump-start the whole rags-to-riches scenario. He is strong from the start and is given the utility to do so. *The cover art is not my own, all rights reserved to the owner. I will take it down if necessary. *The style of the recent chapters is comparatively different than Chapter 1.

Ereborus
(I'm taking some time off to rewrite certain scenes and improve the quality of my writing. I'll restart updating the fiction once done it.) Update: at the moment, I don't feel like continuing this story. I'm working on another one in my free time, thus I don't know if I will ever come back to Ereborus. A mercenary has recently arrived at the festive city of Soldra in search of a job, but little do they know that a catastrophe will soon strike the city, causing multiple deaths. The mercenary is among the victims of the disaster. Or maybe not. They wake up again in a dilapidated Soldra where strange creatures now roam around freely. Will they survive in this post-catastrophic scenery and understand what really happened? Disclaimer/Trigger Warning: In future, there will be scenes with gore, graphic deaths and animal cruelty. Moreover, considering that the mc is a non-binary mercenary, cases of PTSD and misgendering may be included. If you are too sensitive to these topics, this story isn't for you. ━━━━━━━━━▲━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━▲━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━▲━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━▲━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Hello dear visitors! The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
