《The Hero Assassin》Chapter 4 - Night Assault

The royal castle of the Alyastia Kingdom was perhaps the most prominant building in the royal capital. Its magnificant walls featured beautiful pearl white stone walls adorned with golden engravings spralled across it. The roofs of various towers and buildings were all plated with pure mithril. As the centerpiece of the Kingdom, it represented the absolute wealth and authority of the royal family's rule.
Inside the throne room was an even more spectacular site. With glossy marble flooring, golden walls, and mithril pillars, a common man could live the rest of his life off selling a square inch. The throne itself was made of pure gold and diamond, further accenting the incredibly wealthy atmosphere. Royal knights dressed in pure mithril and gold stood tall and alert at each side of the royal red carpet as the throne room doors opened.
Entering the throne room was Landon preceded by his royal knight escort. Gazing at the stone-still soldiers and the insane wealth of the throne room, he stood in awe and reverence at the display. He continued walking until he stopped before the mithrill steps to the throne and knelt down on one knee.
Soon, the head royal knight came inside and stood beside the throne. Clearing his throat, he began to speak.
"His Excellency King Darcon Vi Guinerra Alyastia of the Alyastia royal family lineage shall enter the premises. Give your respects to His Majesty."
The rest of the knights stood in kneeling position with their heads looking down. Not a single sound was heard aside the creaking of the door behind the throne. Coming in was an old-looking man with short grey hair and a long beard. His body was adorned in various jewels, rings, and rich robes while his head was topped with a golden plated crown. An air of supreme authority surrounded him, filling the throne room with heavy pressure.
Soon, the regal King sat down on the throne. His eyes peered across his subjects as if he were slicing up their innermost secrets. With a satisfied grunt, he relaxed and looked down at the kneeling Hero in front of him.
"Raise your head [Hero of the Sword]!"
Hearing his cue, Landon lifted his head up while the rest of his body remained still. Looking at the deep grey eyes in front of him, he felt he was sinking into a bottomless well of wisdom and experience. Steeling his nerves, he replied.
"Your humble subject awaits your command!"
The King glanced at the Head Knight beside of him.
"[Hero of the Sword]. I command you to activate [Appraisal] on Head Knight Sir George beside me to verify your identity as a [Hero] class. Clarify his stats for me."
[Appraisal] was a skill that activated a menu showcasing various miscellaneous information about any person who is targeted. From assessing levels and statuses to the skills and classes the person holds, it was a very convenient information gatherer.
However, as only the [King] and those of the [Hero] class are able to gain this skill, it was also used to publicly verify any Hero's identity. After all, some people in the past have masked their own stats and pretended to be Heroes, only to be exposed as frauds due to their inability to appraise.
[Appraisal] truly was a special skill.
Nodding, Landon turned his gaze towards the knight right next to the King. Activating [Appraisal], a menu popped up with all of Sir George's information on it.

After verifying the information, he confirmed Sir George's stats to the King. Nodding, King Darcon acknowledged Landon's identity as the [Hero of the Sword] after activating [Appraisal] himself.
"Good. I have verified you are indeed the [Hero of the Sword]," King Darcon began then started to question him. "Now, are you aware of the reason I summoned you?"
"Indeed Your Highness," Landon replied. "I have read and verified a letter stamped with the royal seal stating I was to eliminate a demon town in the West."
"That is correct. It's a town we've recently discovered situated on a large plain near the Forest of Teria. According to scouts, it's an unusual town known as Tanquai. However, the most striking sin is how it is populated by both Demons and Humans."
Everyone in the throne room gasped in horror. They couldn't believe their ears. Just the idea of breathing the same air as Demons was already disgusting enough. But the idea of living and interacting with those barbarians was complete insanity.
Landon himself almost puked. Having fought countless demons on the battlefield, he knew how barbaric and warlike those disgusting creatures were. The idea of Humans living with them was practically unthinkable.
"Your Majesty," Landon cried out. "I regret to admit but I believe my hearing has failed me. Did you say Humans are living with Demons?"
The King sighed. With a downcast expression, he sullenly confirmed.
"Yes, you heard me exactly right. Humans and Demons are living together. For the life of me, I don't understand why any human would want to surround themselves with dung, but apparently it's real."
Anger exploded onto Landon's face. Hearing that members of his own species stooped down to a Demon's level, he felt absolute anguish for them. He thought their lives may as well be worse than hell.
However, despite whatever circumstances led them to such depravity, he felt the best thing he could do for them is to kill everyone - Demon and Human - in that village. By doing that, he would release the brainwashed Humans from living a terrible life with Demons.
"Your Highness. I humbly request that I take on this saddening mission so that us Humans can hold our heads high once again!"
The King smiled with a pleased expression.
"Thank you very much [Hero of the Sword]. As the #1 [Hero] class, you have proven time and time again of your loyalty and love for the Human race and the Alyastia Kingdom. I entrust you to visit this place alone and take care of this problem."
"I thank you for your benevolence Your Majesty!"
After the Hero's declaration, the King explained the location and population to him. After understanding and listening intently, the [Hero of the Sword] bowed down once more and was released to complete his mission.
After seeing the Hero exit, the King dismissed his knights and went back to his private quarters. Upon entry, he noticed a figure was already inside. Standing next to his bed was a gorgeous beauty with silky black hair and jade-white skin. With a smile, she walked towards the King and helped change his clothes.

"So how eager was that Hero when you told him that town had both Humans and Demons inside?"
Darcon's face lit up with a sinister grin on his face as she continued unclothing him.
"Took it hook, line, and sinker. Sometimes I can't even believe how well our propaganda worked. These humans are racist to the core, no matter how good in character they are."
Laughing, the woman bent down and took off his underpants. Seeing his manhood rise up, she put her body on him, rubbing herself on his rod.
"Well, that just means your plan will become reality soon. Can't see how that woman wouldn't come out of hiding if her beloved is in danger."
Darcon smiled as he embraced the black-haired beauty while stripping her clothes off.
"Of course. After we bait that bastard out and eliminate her, we can finally start implementing our dream."
Squealing and smiling with joy, the woman let herself be carried into bed naked by the King. Soon, the room was filled with moans of ecstacy and love as the two connected their bodies together.
Jauvin woke up as he felt something hit his head.
Groaning, he sat up and looked around. Soon, his eyes rested on a rock resting on his bed. Looking up from said rock, he saw his bed-side window cracked and crumbled as moonlight glistened in. As his face contorted in a rage, a dull pain spiked on his head as he felt a bump forming.
"FOOKIN' HELL. WHO DER SHIT IS OUT DER?"
Silence remained as no reply was given. Jauvin's anger only spiked even further as he realized the perpretrators weren't confessing.
"ILL FIND YER N' BEAT YER ASS DEN!"
His body radiating pure anger and rage, he jumped out of bed as he planned on sniffing out the criminal. However, his floor had other plans instead.
As his feet touched the ground, the floor started shining as a magical imprint formed. Soon, it activated, causing Jauvin to suddenly lost balance and slip face-first right on the ground. Groaning, he tried to pick himself up and stand only to be met with the same fate over and over.
"What der hell?!"
After nearly a dozen times trying to stand and slipping instead, Jauvin gave up and tried crawling instead. To his relief, crawling did work. Bruised and battered, he moved over away from the spell's radius and went up to his cane resting on the wall.
Attempting to stand once more, he sighed in relief as he no longer slipped. Reaching out for his cane, his rage started boiling over once more.
"I'll definitely fookin' kill dert basturd. I'll defin---"
However, before he could finish cursing, his cane suddenly moved and wacked right into his pot-belly. Groaning and wincing in pain, he stumbled backwards, tripped over a wire, and fell down right on his ass. Immediately afterwards, the tripped wire helped flip a hanging bucket upside down, spilling its sticky contents all over Jauvin.
In distress, he got up and tried rubbing off the sticky mess, only to find his hands soon glued to his sides with elbows sticking out. Cursing and screaming, he lumbered towards his outside door and barely managed to open it. However, luck truly wasn't on his side as he activated another trip wire.
Immediately, another bucket above turned over and poured its contents all over him. White chicken feathers fell down like rain and stuck itself right on him. Soon enough, the old blue demon with his arms stuck to sides looked exactly like one huge clucking chicken.
"I"LL FOOKIN' KILL YOU! I'LL FOOKIN' KILL YOU!"
Screaming and yelling in rage, he stumbled and tumbled as his night completely turned upside down.
"That was fucking hilarious! He looks just like a damn chicken!"
With tears in their eyes, Darian, Alicia, and Faveon were all laughing their asses off while Chloe herself broke a small giggle. Sitting in their "mini-cave" they dug up as children, they were watching Chloe's [Visual Mist] of Jauvin. Seeing their plan work perfectly, a sense of satisfaction swelled in all of them.
"Man I know right Darian! I knew that old bitch was stupid, but I didn't expect him to keep trying to get up after Chloe's [Slip] done him in a dozen times already!" Faveon commented in between laughs.
"This honestly was very immature and childish in action. But I'd be lying if I say I didn't enjoy it." Chloe put up a wry smile as she muttered to herself.
"Those buckets were flawless," Darian remarked in awe. "Honestly, I have to give credit to Alicia where it's due. She placed them in exactly the right spots."
"Well what else would you expect from your future princess wife." Alicia boasted proudly while chuckling.
"And there goes that little bit of respect I had of you." Darian retorted.
The four of them continued boasting of their accomplishments and favorite parts. However, as expected, Chloe soon brought herself back to reality as a thought crept up on her.
"Wait. What are we gonna do if we get caught?" She asked worriedly.
"Oh please. Like we're ever going to get caught," Faveon snorted. "Alicia and Darian already made sure no one saw us setting everything up."
"Yep. No one was within a one mile radius when I checked around." Alicia said proudly.
After reassuring Chloe, the group decided they probably should head home by now. While their parents were all lenient with letting them stay up late, they still needed to get home eventually and rest up. As the group walked out of the cave, they soon paled as they saw an all too familiar chicken standing right in front.
"I herd you basturds had sumthin' to do wit dis bullshit." The angry pot-bellied chicken spoke.
"Haha. What could you possibly be talking about?" The group replied nervously.
"Oh, I ain't know, maybe sumthin' to do wit buckerts, [Slip] spells, n' dressin' me like a chick'n."
Sweat poured down the group of four's heads as the victim in front glared at them like a predator looks at prey.
"Hey, Jauvin. I have no idea what you're talking about, but I have to run and go back to bed. Good night!" Darian said as he dashed off.
"I got to go too! Bed-time after all." Alicia sheepishly replied as she too skipped off.
"Oh man. It really is late. My parents are probably worrying. Sorry Jauvin." Chloe stated as she ran off.
"I too have to go. Though I like the chicken costume Jauvin!" Faveon replied then scrambled away.
"WHERE DER FOOK DO YER BASTARDS THINK YER GOING!"
Jauvin continued to scream and curse at the four kids who all dashed off running for their lives.

It's a litrpg in which I want to only lightly focus on the mechanics as I don’t want to pad out the word count with math and number tables and while I want to add a few of my own twists here and there, overall I’m going to keep this story close to generic as possible so that I don't let my inexperience lead me into a corner. Thanks again to all willing to leave a review or some constructive criticism, without you I'd never improve. Unfortunately, Cover art is by me.
