《The Legendary Bard》Chapter 3: Gor'thak the Conqueror

“Move your ass kid!” I turned around with a frightened expression to see the second most disturbing thing I’d seen today…an elderly winged cherub with a great sword.
I couldn’t wrap my mind around what I was seeing in front of me. It looked like a ripped flying toddler. I knew it was one of the winged cherubs, but it had long grey hair and a feng shui mustache. On its back was the largest great sword I had ever seen…somewhere around ten feet long. The blade was four or five times the mans size. “A muscular baby…”
“Baby, huh!?” The ripped flying toddler had an incredibly angry look on its face. “GOR’THAKKKK.” The child began screaming out some word and I wasn’t able to decipher what language it came from.
“Gor’thak is not a baby…you are a baby. Look at your flimsy arms. Gor’thak is a conqueror. A Cherubim that does not know Gor’thaks name is the baby. Stupid baby.” The muscular flying child flicked his hand forward and a blue box appeared in front of my face before everything went dark.
You have been knocked unconscious – 5 Minutes
I stared at the blackness for a few seconds before finally figuring out what had happened. That child…baby thing must have hit me and knocked me out temporarily. “When I wake up…I’m gonna.” I started to get mad and then realized that I may have provoked him and deserved what I got. I did call him a baby and given his hair color he must have been an older man. The unconscious time clock was slowly ticking down in front of my face, until a new message popped up.
Awakening from unconscious state – 3…2…1…
I opened my eyes only to have to close them again. It took me a few moments to get used to the bright light of the sun glaring down on me. “Where am I?” I got up and looked around. A small piece of paper fell off of my chest and I reached down to pick it up. Some letter were scrawled on the paper in the universal language. It read…
Bad children get left out in the wild with the wolves -Gor’thak the Conqueror P.S. :P

I was willing to let this go and not be mad at the elderly baby for knocking me unconscious, but this…this made me mad. I started to look around to see if I could get my bearings, when I heard the sound of growling behind me. “Please don’t tell me that’s…” I muttered to myself as I slowly turned to face what I hoped was a friendly dog. I was wrong…I was very wrong. A pack of wolves were several meters behind me and I could see the drool coming out of their mouths. “AHHHhhhhhhHHHHH!” I gave up thinking about the situation in a rational way and I started to run for my life.
The wolves took my battle cry or runaway cry as a sign that the hunt had commenced. I tried to weave in between the trees in the hopes that it might disorient them or something, but the wolves seemed to be smiling gleefully. They were playing with me. Every few minutes or so a wolf would run up and nip at my heels in order to make me falter.
Damaged left leg -6 HP
Damaged right leg -8 HP
I was starting to slow down from the constant pressure of the wolves and the bite marks in the back of my legs. I pushed myself harder and harder to try and get away from them, but to no avail. I could feel that my stamina was almost gone and if I kept pushing forward it would start to tear away at my health.

Satiety has dropped below 50%. You will lose health every minute until satiety is restored
I fell to the ground as my legs gave out from under me. The wolves stalked out of the woods in a semicircle as they slowly began to encircle me. It was like I was a prize to them. They came after me for the thrill of the hunt…not out of some predatorial hunger, but that wasn’t going to stop them from making the kill. “He…lp…me.” I tried to call out, but the lack of health was starting to affect my senses. The wolves stalked closer…I could feel their breath on my skin and just when I thought it was over a loud roar could be heard from the left side of me.

“Gor’thakkkkkkk!” The yell seemed to frighten the wolves and cause them to scatter and run into different directions. “Hahaha, It seems Gor’thak has saved the baby Cherub from certain death. Do you still think me an infant.”
I was unable to respond to him, because my HP gauge was about to hit 0. Gor’thaks hand disappeared in a blur again. I could feel that he was hitting me in some way, but he was moving to fast for me to recognize what he was doing.
My health started to increase and I felt revitalized for some reason. “What the…what did you do?” I asked the muscular baby…I mean Gor’thak.
“Hohoho, you seem to have realized that Gor’thak is very highly skilled and amazing, am I right.” Gor’thak had a way of avoiding the question and somehow highly praising himself at the same time. “Wimpy baby needs more training.” Gor’thak proclaimed before he lifted me up with one hand and we seemed to vanish into thin air. I began to wonder if we teleported or something, but I felt the rush of air going through my hair. It seemed that we were moving at an incredibly high pace. It was only for a few moments thought, until he stopped moving and dropped me on the ground.
“Ouch.” I whispered before I stood up to look around. We were at some small cabin just outside the Ruins of Nulia. I could tell because I could see the tall spires of stone in the distance to the south
“Okay. Training now.” The strong and powerful voice seemed to accept no other answer. As if his word itself was law.
You have been forced to become the apprentice of Gor’thak the Conqueror
New Title: The Conquerors Apprentice
I didn’t know whether to be happy or to cry. On one hand I felt that I could learn a lot about fighting from Gor’thak, but on the other hand I felt like I stayed I would either go insane from his yelling or die. It was a coin toss…but in the end my fear won out and I ended up staying.
“Need strong body to be able to learn from Gor’thak.” He spoke quickly before he smacked me in the face and sent me flying about twenty feet in the air. I landed on the ground with a thud.
Damaged body -87 HP
I was scared for my life. I was almost one-shotted by being smacked by the mans hand. One more hit and I was a goner. I was hit again, but this time it was a series of pokes in certain places on my body and I felt my health start to recover at a rapid pace. ‘What is going on.’ I thought. I stood up slowly and looked at Gor’thak. The man had a smile on his face and before I could ask him why he punched me in the stomach.
For being able to endure a serious beating +2 End
I think I lost my mind after the 12th hit…or was it the 36th. The process of being hit and being healed continued over and over and over again. I was happy about the steady boost in my endurance state, but this had to be the most excruciating way a person could train.
“Gor’thak is done for now.” He muttered softly and I was happy to hear that he wasn’t going to hit me again. I stood up and was about to thank him for helping to train me. “Thanks for training me…I guess. I’ll just go now.” I turned to leave, but Gor’thak seemed to have other plans were I was concerned.
“That was just the initiation. Gor’thaks training regime starts now.” I heard those words and I started to run away, but I found myself flying high through the air in a matter of seconds. “Noooooooo.” I yelled out towards the sunset.

A Prose of Years
For decades, spiritualist Evert Kallstrom and his team have joined in humanity’s millennia-long fight against the beasts. Wielding their weapons and their ki, they fought and killed these great threats to civilization. And yet, despite their efforts, humanity was losing traction in the war. In the last fifty years alone, more cities had been overrun than in all of known history. While most thought the great beasts natural, a few knew the terrible truth. They were the product of a dark lord, who desired neither fame nor wealth nor power. Instead, his sole purpose was the genocide of humanity. While their peers dithered, a small faction of the strongest mankind had to offer—including Evert Kallstrom and his team—set out towards the Deadlands to find and confront this dark lord. After weeks of travel, twenty-one spiritualists found themselves approaching an ancient fortress wherein rested a being known only as the Eastern Guardian. All they found was death. But death has other plans for Evert. Evert bolts awake in his 16 year old body near his hometown, decades in the past. He is confused, poor and weak. But with grit, sweat, and years of experience, he won't let the future repeat itself. That level of strength won't be enough by itself (it wasn’t last time) and victory is hardly assured (he’ll need to reach farther and higher than he ever did), but Evert refuses to squander a second chance. [Other tags: First Person POV, Hard Magic, Faulty Memory] Volume 1 is complete and has been fully released. My current intention is not to write any sequel volumes. That said, I have also released appendices (SPOILERS) that cover the worldbuilding and future story-that-never-was. Comments suggesting fixes for grammar, misspellings, etc. appreciated. Note: If you came here from Candlelit Lives, these stories have nothing in common.

Fall of Jupiter
What happens when the most powerful man in the world loses his soulmate to a heart attack? What happens when an innocent woman is dragged into a world of magic, and superheroes? Who is the true hero of the story? Note: This is the first book I ever wrote seriously. (I even had a cover made before I decided against publishing it) I'd like to think my writing style has improved with practice, and the multiple other books I've worked on. It felt wrong to leave a nearly completed book gathering dust in my google docs, but I don't think it's good enough to be officially published. As a result, I'm putting it here instead where it at least won't be totally wasted. Eventually, I'll put in the last 10 hours or so to finish it for you guys. Hope you like it :)
