《Hanging out with the Mutants》Prologue

I am back.
The street is full of people. There's a guy in a business suit walking with a briefcase. He looked at his watch while talking with someone on his phone. Then he looks at me. His eyes showing curiousness as he passes me by. There is a woman with a baby on a stroller. The baby is wailing loudly. She desperately tried to stop the baby from crying. Then she looks at me, like the other guy, with an eye full of curiosity and bewilderment.
I tried to ignore the people looking at me as I take another look at my surroundings. Towering skyscrapers filled the landscape, seemingly overtook the trees and nature. The cars passing by like a shadow, sometimes stopping because of the red light. And the floor which is flattened by asphalt and cement.
It's a city.
I took a deep breath as I tried to recall my memories of the past.
I was an orphan. My parents died when I was 4 years old and I was left in an orphanage. I grew up as a normal high school boy. There is not a single extraordinary thing in my 17 years of living, or so I thought…
While I was going home from school, I was thinking of stopping by a convenience store when "it" happened. In a road devoid of people, a magic circle-like thing appeared out of nowhere. The magic circle looks very much like those in the animes I've watched. It was full of unknown patterns.
I was thrilled, fantasizing that I'd be summoned in a western fantasy world of magic and swords.
There was a flash of light.
But, instead of being transported to a western fantasy world, I was transferred in a world of cultivation. I appeared in an unknown forest. My first few days were harsh, always running away from wild beasts. I got accustomed to sleeping outside, scraping every edible plant available.

After a week, I met the first humans. They were a group of youngsters, like me. They gave me food and helped me get out of that forest. That is when I realized that they are not normal humans; they have powers. They told me that it was the "Essence" of the world. It was vague, but I got the gist of it because of all the cultivation novels I've read.
When parting, they offered me to enter their sect. Feeling grateful for everything they've done for me, I didn't hesitate to join as I know that it will benefit me as well.
That was the start of my path.
My life starting from there was a non-stop cultivation. I cultivated, and cultivated, and cultivated some more until I am strong enough to defend myself from that survival world. I continued cultivating while fighting the strong, then taking some treasures, and cultivated again. That was my life-cycle.
A few decades later, my life took another turn while exploring an unknown valley. I discovered an Ancient manual. I didn't know its significance until the world witnessed it. It shook every expert; its existence enough to bring the world to chaos. It was sought after by every clans and sect in the world. My life was in danger, yet again.
I desperately tried to protect it and sought help from my sect. But, what I did not expect was the betrayal of my sect. Greed filled their eyes. Not much different from the world. Because of it, I decided to hide and cultivate in the forest I've first appeared from.
But, I know that this peace is only temporary.
One day, I was discovered and chased around the forest. I was cornered eventually after a few days of playing cats and mice. Then, "it" happened again. There was a magic circle right below me. The experts were bewildered and tried to stop it but failed. There was a flash of light.
Then, the next thing I know, I was standing here.
I look around again.
Yep. This is Earth, alright.

Myth of The World's Trees
And Simon answered their call with a single statement that nobody understood "Et super mos absit hoc hodie!" "Yah!" "WWWaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!" "AAAlllllaaaaallllaaaaallllaaaa!" "EeEEellllleeeeeelllllleeeeeeuuuuuuu!" I, too, yelled a battle cry at the top of my lungs. I had no idea what Simon had just spouted but from Camilla's giggling, I could guess that Simon thought that spouting nonsense was his way of getting out of the earlier predicament. "I forbid death upon this day," Camilla said. "What?" I answered a bit at a loss. "Ancient Latin," she replied smugly, "He said 'I forbid death upon this day'." I laughed aloud "Then he is gonna be really disappointed in everyone here," Camilla did not reply and instead took a deep breath. I did the same, zoning out everything in my surroundings. The environment became a world of electrical pulses traveling across several networks. I perceived the world through my lightning and sped my heartbeat to inhuman levels. I was present now, at this moment, at this point in time. I could feel the electrifying air saturating my lungs, the electrified ground vibrating at the rhythm of the approaching enemy. Then I took a step forward, everyone followed in tandem. Camilla the first, and then the others. Then I took a second step, and this time everyone followed simultaneously. Third step… Fourth step… Fifth step… Then light jogging… Speeding up… Running … Running faster…. Then suddenly, everyone disappeared into motes of light particles that re-constructed itself hundreds of feet above the horde, dozens of miles away from our initial position. We were literally 'diving' into battle.-------------------------------------------------------------------Despite a rough childhood in the slums, Omari had everything a guy could want - a loving girlfriend, an understanding sister, a wonderful teacher, and his dream job. Still, the scars from his childhood made Omari unable to live a dull life. He dreamed of something greater... something beyond the reaches of what humankind could achieve in the current era.Like always, Omari should have been careful what he wished for. In the year 2046, the World was thrown into chaos as the apocalypse came in the form of massive trees that shot up out of the ground one day. These trees towered over the tallest of buildings and had thicknesses that spanned kilometers at a time. They grew everywhere, in homes, businesses, and cities as they formed a complex network that overlayed the old world. The cause of the apocalypse was unknown, but Omari's workplace was believed to be the origin point of the unfortunate events.Fifteen years after the start of the Apocalypse... after all the pain and suffering... after losing everything he cared about, Omari sent his memories back in time to make sure that the future he lives in, never came to be.Will he be able to uncover the mystery of The Trees? Will he be able to protect all those he has lost? Will he succeed, or will his attempt be washed away by the currents of time? Will Omari be able to learn the truth about 'THE MYTH OF THE WORLD'S TREES'?

“Help me Chosen. You are my only hope.”You have found yourself in blackness, with several options before you live your new life. That's right, this is a CYOA and a LITRPG all in one go. I'll be using something like a water downed DND 5E ruleset. I will typically wait 6-24 hours between chapters in order to make a decision, and then start writing after that.

Healing Dungeon
// DUNGEON Mechanics will start to appear around chapter 100+/Arc 3 of the story! \ Avan, a 25-year-old young man, is torn from his rather boring life. He awakens in Aorus, a world full of magic, monsters and dungeons. By a stroke of luck and an ominous skill called "Potential", he awakens a new class never seen before called Dungeonheart (Human). Dungeons, although sentient, are never sapient nor mobile. Join Avan as he pursues his passion for healing and martial arts, and building his very own dungeon at the same time. He’s the hybrid of a moving dungeon and a healer. "Healing Dungeon" will include City building, strategy, very little romance, exploration of the world of Aorus, and a touch of power levelling. (There are elements from other fantasy novels, as well as anime, games, and more). What will all be possible with a dungeon that can move, but still brings some of the familiar dungeon mechanics along for its journey? -- Please note that the beginning and thus the first chapters were really my first writing works in english, and can only be rewritten at a later time (lack of time in favor for new chapters) --(The writing style and also the story improves VERY much from the 12th chapter at the latest! Proofreading is available, but I depend on any well-intentioned advice from you guys). If you have any questions, suggestions, constructive criticism, or just because you feel like it, feel free to leave me a comment below the respective chapters! For every positive and serious review or rating, I am infinitely grateful! ;) I am a creature of few words and the beginning is therefore a little faster than I would have liked it now in retrospect. Please do not expect huge paraphrases and descriptions of the environments, but only what is really necessary to get into the scene. Cheers and hopefully see you in the comment section.
