《Dragonic Evolution [Old]》To Friends, Enemy's and Evolution, Part 4: Hunting.

Day 20. Not much had happened since this story had last ended. I think that Yarm was starting to forgive me a little for killing her friends, along with that though my skills had increased a good amount. This was my new status screen, something that I was very proud of.
(Name: Glen
Level – 7
Biomass - 9
Skills: Rapid Development lvl (P), Frenzying Roar lvl 1, Pain Resistance lvl 2, Heat Scales lvl 3, Mana Infusion lvl 3, Climbing lvl 10, Sprinting lvl 7
Physical Aspects: Small Horn lvl 1, Weak Hide lvl 1, Weak Scales lvl 3, Claws lvl 1
Mutations: System lvl 2, ??? lvl 1, Smoke Breath lvl 3)
I had continued to train my climbing and sprinting after I had gotten good I started to use mana infusion. This had been very effective, to the point where I decided to save up the skill evolutions for day 20. ‘Alright system, today is the day. Show me the evolutions for climbing’. [With pleasure, here are all of the options for evolving climbing. You may pick two]. I didn’t expect to be able to pick two. I guess it was because I got it to level 10. Either way, there were a lot fewer options for climbing than for roar.
I will skip the boring options and tell you the two I chose. I chose the same thing twice. [+1 level to Claws]. This brought my claws up to level three and made them far sharper than before. If I had tried to wipe at a tree before it would have hurt it, but not kill it. No I was confident I could cut through any animals hide and most likely their bones as well. I would have picked an actual skill but most of them were just more specific climbing ability’s that I don’t think would do me any better than my normal climbing skill.

Next is what I chose for sprinting infact wasn’t an upgrade to a physical aspect I had already. Instead I chose [Charge]. This was as simple as it sounds, I am faster when running in a straight line. Combined with me getting a larger horn in the future this could be a great skill.
Well after that I should tell you all my plans. When I said that nothing really happened that was a bit of a lie. I was walking alone one night three days before today. It was a grove of plants, the grass glowed bright blue. Even the air around this place seemed magical. It was like this place was made to be peaceful. I wanted to lay down in the grass and roll around it looked like pure magic. But the real prize I found was a massive herd of deer with bright, shining antlers. Their fur was a sparkling white, a pelt that a human me would be proud to acquire. These were the same animals that Mother had brought back on the first day we met.
Back to the present. Me and Yarm are walking through the woods to stalk out the huge grove of grass. “Why am I being brought along?” “because if one of the big ones step on me I need you to do your fire healing thing. Plus I thought you might want to see the grass, though we might not be here long enough to see it at night”. Yarm let out a heavy sigh, but kept walking with me.
It wasn’t long before we reached the grove. I spoke to her in a hushed whisper to explain my plan. “Alright Yarm, those things will help me get stronger. But they are strong so this is going to be a calculated risk. Your job is to keep me from dieing if one of those guys step on me of if I get impaled, think you can do that?”. Yarm put her paws on her head before saying “fine, fine. Just hope the fire god will take mercy on you for your foolishness. I personaly think you are insane for going and fighting things that could hurt you bad enough to need me”. I thought that her last comment was a little funny to me. "Well if I wasn't fighting things that could hurt me then you would be useless to me". My comment might have upset Yarm as she chose to not respond.

I left Yarm in a hiding spot a decent distance away as I went to my own hiding spot in a bush a foot from the grass. I counted three of the crystal deer, there had been fifteen or more the last time I was here. All of them were good sized though, but only one had horns. ‘I wonder if I get anything special from eating the horns’. The one with horns was twice my size, more than I could hope to eat but that had never stopped me before. If I was lucky I could get two, eat one and drag the smaller away before more arrive. The smaller two were only a foot taller.
The time to strike was at hand. I took in a deep breath, getting ready to run. ‘Alright Glen, one, two, GO’. I ran out of the bushes as fast as I could, kicking up dirt as I ran, the three deer were all startled and the largest one with horns ran at me. He was quicker than me but I wouldn’t step back. My horn found it’s mark, right between his antlers and into its head. Or I thought that happened, instead I got caught under the deer's horns and tossed into the air.
‘No, no, no, this isn’t meant to happen. I got up quickly, the other two deer were grazing on the grass while the other deer stood straight up, looking down on me. “Nobody is going to look down on me! I am the mighty dragon, I will become the most feared creature inside of this forest if it was the last thing I do”. I snapped those words loudly at the deer, all the beasts in this forest be damned if it attracted attention.
Even if the deer was likely just looking at a smaller predator and was forced to look downwards I hated it. Taking in another deep breath, I charged. This time the deer stood still, thinking I was doing a false charged. Before I hit the deer I jumped, blowing smoke into its face. After that I sank my claws into its neck and used my body weight to swing myself on its back, cutting its throat in the process. I let out a triumphant roar to celebrate my victory and to keep the other two from running for just a few more seconds.
I was hoping that would happen. Instead, I saw something fly towards one of the two deer, the other ran. As that all happened I was knocked off the horned deer’s back and to the ground. I sprawled to get up, I didn’t expect what I saw. Humans.

Trial of Champions
It all began with a family trip to an amusement park. How were any of us to expect being transported from Earth to participate in some "Trial of Champions," whatever that was supposed to be? Given only an hour to choose the Classes that would come to define our strengths, we were almost immediately torn away from one another and thrust into a deadly game of survival. It wasn't all bad, though, as terrifying as it could be from time to time. The supernatural and magical powers of the Classes were like something out of an RPG, complete with leveling up by killing monsters and completing so-called "Sub-Trials." And despite the juicy Experience to be gained from killing other Champion Contestants, not all of the participants were bloodthirsty murderers; some could be allied with, or even befriended. Even if it seemed like everyone who had been chosen for this Trial, no matter what universe they came from, was at least a little bit crazy. I would survive this till the end, and I'd make sure that my siblings and parents did as well, no matter how many times we were separated from one another. No matter how long it took. No matter what I had to do. --- A first-person litRPG incorporating classes inspired by D&D and other sources. If you like blue boxes but don't need to have huge lists of numbers to scratch your itch, you should be satisfied on that front. Each chapter is, in my word processing document, seven pages long (approximately 3300-3900 words). The Traumatizing Content warning is there because of discussions of certain topics. Nothing that I think deserves the warning actually happens in the story.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
