《Dragonic Evolution [Old]》New World Part 3: The Forest.

I awoke at sunrise. Now that I had slept my mind felt a lot better than before. ‘I wonder what this place is going to throw at me next... perhaps a falling rock will squish me!’. Slowly standing up from the nest I let out a small, squeaky yawn. ‘Curse this infant body!!! I will get the loudest roar one day…’. After mentally chuckling at myself I decided to stand up and get a plan together.
While I enjoyed acting on instincts, I at least needed a basic outline of a plan. ‘Alright, I am done stumbling around, so the first mission is going to be at least mastering basic movements. Running, swimming or climbing can come after the basics’.
Turning to look at the eggs I gave a mental smile. ‘Don’t worry, you are all going to become nice and strong when you hatch!!! Of course, I will still be the biggest’. Well, now was time for me to begin to learn how to walk. I began to walk towards the forest, then before entering it I turned around and walked back to the nest. I hate to admit it though but I fell over at least a dozen times before I reached the forest. On the way back though I ended up only falling five times.
I continued to repeat this process until I managed to walk back and forth five times without stumbling. This took me until the sun was high in the sky, maybe an hour before noon. ‘Alright, that is better now… I’m hungry… I guess I can leave the eggs alone for a little while. If I die of hunger then I will be unable to protect them anyways… and if anything touches them while I am gone I will make their whole race extinct!!!’.
So after checking my sibling’s eggs a final time I went to walk into the woods. The moment I entered I felt something completely different from the pleasant nest I slept in. This felt… scary, like something wanted me to stay out. For a few moments, I froze up, not sure how to interact with fear that I didn’t understand. Just a moment later I could see the tree’s several yards away tremble as something passed through them. That was what snapped me out of the fear that pierced through me and I jumped into a bush, waiting until I thought the giant creature passed.

‘What on this world was that… something for me to avoid. Anything that can make trees bend and break that easily could snap me like a twig…’. After taking another moment to compose myself I got up from my spot and continued to walk around the forest.
I did remember something, the scale that got destroyed probably hasn’t grown back yet. I would have to watch out on my left side, lest another goblin or similar creature is smart enough to exploit my weak point.
Sadly that situation might never come due to my current hunt not going too well. The few animals I found were all normal enough, but all of them were faster than me. While I did try hiding once an hour had passed before I gave up, my hunger now taking on a new level of extreme. That was when I found something new.
The creature was small, about three feet tall then again it was still taller then me. But the thing that interested me was that it was bipedal, along with that the creature was covered in fur. To sum up the rest of the features of the creature I would say a dog on two legs. ‘Wait, I have seen these before… in books. They're Kobolts? Strange… I always liked Kobolts, even made one apart of my books main team. I feel kind of bad about what I am about to do to this thing… but I have no other choice unless I want to risk starving to death. If I die though then damn this reincarnation would be a waste. So, let's get this over with’.
The Kobolt had yet to notice me. Plus it was facing in the exact opposite direction as I was. The perfect time to use the element of surprise. Putting my head down low, I made sure that my horn was facing straight forward. Then I took in a deep breath and charged forward. The Kobolt heard me as I charged, but it was far too late. The Kobolt had only been a few feet away from me, right as it turned around it fight me, my horn slammed into its stomach. Then with the sickening tear of flesh, I threw up my head.
The Kobolt fell to the ground, howling in pain. The creatures now had a tear from the stomach to right under the creature's heart. The cut was not very deep thought with my horn only being four inches long. But the thin Kobolt still got torn open. I felt bad about it, I never wanted to cause it much pain.

A moment later though it appears that I miscalculated the amount of Kobolts in the area. As I was about to feast on the Kobolt in front of me, currently struggling to live I heard the sound of pounding feet. Turning around I saw three more Kobolts running at me. Two of them were small, only a yard from reaching me while three yards back I could see a massive Kobolt, at least a foot bigger then the others. I got a little lucky though, the small Kobolts had no weapons, only claws but I couldn't tell if the big Kobolt was holding anything.
I had no plan for this, the only thing that I could think of doing would be to take out the two before the big one gets here. Once the two small Kobolts got close to me, they both stopped and began to circle me. I jumped at one, landing on it. The Kobolt tried to claw at me but I sank my teeth into its neck, just barely breaking through the skin to injure it. Opening my mouth I slammed my teeth into the Kobolt one last time. That got through, tearing the monsters neck apart.
One down, two to go. Turning as fast as I could while trying to not fall over I saw the other small Kobolt was on top of the first I killed, it was crying. That shocked me, I was in no way expecting to see another creature cry and I... felt bad for killing them. 'These things wanted to live just as much as I did and they also might have people they want to protect'. Those naive thoughts are something I shouldn't be thinking of because right after I got back into my killing mindset *WOOSH*, *THUMP*.
A giant club came at me, hitting my left side and launching me into a wall. I stood up as fast as I could. Even if these creatures had family's they wanted to protect. Or if they were just gathering food they made a mistake. Adrenaline flooded my veins as anger rose inside of me. So what I killed two of their kin? I was about to kill another. I charged at the giant Kobolt, it lifted the club it had hit me with and tried to hit me again. But before it hit I jumped.
The jump was bad, I barley created enough speed to launch me high enough but I did. Now I was just high enough to nab at the Kobolt. I chose to bit its ear, tearing it from the dog-like head. The Kobolt backed away, clutching its ear with its freehand. Quickly I looked over at the other small Kobolt, still hunched over its fallen brethren. Then I looked back at the giant Kobolt, still clutching its ear. 'One chance I give them. Then I swear I will kill both'. Sucking in as much air as I could I bellowed out another loud roar. Something must have overtaken the two Kobolts because once that roar ended I couldn't see them.
Smiling at my victory, I went and ate the two I had killed, savoring every bite. After finishing my meal an idea popped into my head. ‘STATUS’
(Name: Glen
Level – 1
Biomass - 12
Skills: Rapid Development lvl (P), Roar lvl 1
Physical Aspects: Small Horn lvl 1, Weak Hide lvl 1 , Weak Scales lvl 1, Claws lvl 1

‘It looks like my gut feeling was right, I get biomass from eating creatures. I had two before so each Kobolt I ate was about five... nice. I still have no idea what I can use biomass for. If only this damn system would tell me’. [To Gain Access To The Help Feature Please Increase Your System Level]. It had been a little while since I heard the system talk. ‘Please do me a favor and jump off a cliff’. [System is incapable of quote "Jump off a cliff"]. 'God damn it'.
Now with a full stomach, I started to walk back to the eggs, hoping the whole time that they would be ok. I had only left them for a day… no way something could have gotten to them already. At least I wished that way the case.

8 176NEVER SPLIT THE PARTY: The Adventures of The Creeping Bam (BOOK ONE: The Job)
TAO is a broken world held together with nothing but magic and the will of the gods who protect it and its people. Then thousand years ago THE SUNDERING struck and Tao was almost torn apart by a terrible magical cataclysm which resulted in the planet almost being halted in its journey through the cosmos. It took all the power the gods of Tao could muster to restore its orbit and set it turning again, but in their efforts it was forever changed – its axis was drastically altered, and it now spins in such a way that one face of the world is forever turned from the sun it orbits, leaving half the planet in perpetual darkness. The various humanoid races that survived and now thrive within the habitable parts of THE DAY LANDS have come to live in perpetual fear of what lives beyond THE BORDERLANDS that separate them from whatever dwells within THE NIGHT LANDS, but for ten millennia it has kept its secrets. The land of RUNDAO languishes under the rule of their warlike Northern neighbours, the TEKTEHRAN EMPIRE, while a small, ragtag band of motley adventurers ply their mercenary trade fighting monsters and protecting the common man from the various dangers that haunt the night and prowl the hinterlands on the edges of civilization. THE CREEPING BAM have amassed a modest reputation in their years together, but they’re still just a small-time party of sellswords, thieves, outcasts and mages. They’re also exactly the kind of underdogs the people of Tao doesn’t yet realise are needed to save the world from the encroaching darkness they doesn’t even know is coming … This is a love letter and homage to the high-fantasy worlds of the tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and Warhammer and the sword & sorcery cinema and literature I fell in love with as a kid growing up in the 80s, from Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian (and the awesome Schwarzenegger movie, STILL my favourite fantasy film EVER), The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and Ron Howard and George Lucas’ Willow, to the more grown-up and edgy worlds of grimdark masters George RR Martin and (my all-time favourite) Joe Abercrombie, as well as a BIG DOLLOP of Terry Pratchett’s immortal Discworld series. IMPORTANT: This story contains material which some readers may consider to be mature, such as battle violence, some strong language and occasional mild sexual scenes. If this is not your kind of thing, this story is not for you. I am also serializing this story on Tumblr, Wattpad, Quotev and Sweek.
