《Limitless Adaptation》Chapter 042

(Jamie)
Light jabs at me with his spear, and I deflect it with my shield, quickly slicing at him with my sword. He dances out of the way, jabbing at me repeatedly with the spear, which I deflect while striking at him, myself.
It doesn't take him long to start using his magic in addition to his spear, vines, spikes of stone, ice, fire, slashes of air, and more coming at me. My shield stops them all, my sword cutting through them with ease.
He performs his High Jumps several times, and even uses his Jumping Death accidentally a few times, though the Shield of Enlightened Will seems able to handle that with ease. As the battle wears on, I start to wear out, the small Fairy's massive stamina pool granting him that extra edge.
That, and his seven centuries of experience.
Light mixes in his other Ultimates, as when I start to feel as if I can't fight him anymore, I let him use his Mana Charge, knowing he's going to use Dragon Strike. Just before he reaches me, I step to the side, grabbing his fist and flinging him to the ground putting him into a lock.
"Hey!" He exclaims. "No fair!"
"How is this not fair?"
"Fireball!"
The fireball forms in front of his face, exploding right into it, sending the Fairy into a coughing fit.
"That was mean!"
"You did that to yourself!"
"Rematch!"
"No."
"Rematch!"
"I'm too exhausted to fight you again," I tell him. "Wait on the rematch, or I'll delay sleeping with you for five years."
"Aw!" He pouts.
I release him, and he floats back into the air, using his wind magic to brush the dirt off of him.
"That was mean."
"You're the one who didn't react to the surprise," I tell him, and he opens and closes his mouth several times as he attempts to come up with a response. "You know, I'm thinking it's a good thing you've decided to come out here. It's letting you learn stuff… like the fact that some people are willing to risk injury just to gain an edge. Stop being so surprised."
"Okay," he mumbles.
"Also, I gained three Knight Levels and two Hellbreaker Levels from our fight."
He squeals, then starts punching me with all his might in a frenzy, his jealousy very, very clear, his punches very, very light.
When he finally exhausts himself, we meet up with Cole and Colton and Light's Fairies, leaving behind the damaged land. We're going to need an arena of some sort, if we want to keep doing this. Though it would probably count as a slight nerf to Light, since he'd have less nature around.
Not that he needs the added advantage. The only reason I won this time was because he was caught by surprise, and in his seven centuries, he never trained against being tripped-up by something like that.
We head back to the restaurant for some more food, because I'm a bit hungry, and I know Light is, then we head home, with Colton heading to meet with the Freedom Army and see how things are with them.
The next day, the Council demands answers, and I demand they stop being stupid. When you know the Fairy King is around, and ten thousand Fairies suddenly show up and have some seeking him out, it should be obvious they're there on a rescue mission. Even if you thought they knew where he was and what he was doing.

Especially when it's Light, because he's too moronic to plan an invasion that craftily. He'd just summon up his Fairies and attack.
The days pass, and the city recovers from the Hellish Crusade, and my team and I train in the Dungeon a bit more. Colton sticks with his Freedom Army for the most part, but we do remain the friends with benefits we were before my guys came out of the Dungeon.
Light challenges me to another duel, which I win by recognizing he's using Jumping Death and letting it come at me, causing him to realize that he was using it and mess up, allowing me to disarm him and skewer him on his own spear.
He sulks for a week after that.
We receive reports that a Dragon's spotted a bit to the north and west of here, killing people. From what I hear, those are the lands that would've been Adam's home – he must have found a Dragon to help him get revenge.
Around a month and a half after the Hellish Crusade, we receive reports that the Dragon's not far from us, so I have Light stay behind to take care of some stuff while I head into the woods to investigate.
If I'm not mistaken, the Dragon was in the direction of Leif's home. I want to make sure he's okay.
I'm a few hours into the woods when something flies overhead. Looking up, I see a familiar figure, though… are those wings and a tail on him? And why the fuck is he naked?
He's flying towards the city, so I take off running in that direction. The Dragon can wait – Leif has the strongest Archdemon and is living in an ancient castle designed to withstand powerful attacks, including from Dragons.
So he should be fine until I can get Adam to call off his draconic relative.
It doesn't take me long to reach the city, and when I do, I find one of the assholes who still hate non-Humans threatening Adam, who's back in his Human form. Sighing, I shake my head and walk forward.
"Stand down!" I order. "Anyone who attacks a friend of mine will be subject to my wrath, and let's not forget who it was who saved the Warlock who was imprisoned, during the Hellish Crusade two months ago."
The soldier tenses up, turning to look at me. He probably hadn't expected me to have returned already, since the castle's a few weeks' travel away. Morons.
Adam doesn't look too much different than he did before, though I can tell he's stronger. He's also a bit nervous of me, suggesting that I'm probably a bit stronger than him, enough that his instincts are flaring up.
"Hello, Adam," I greet him. "Good to see you're back. That was you who just flew in? Grats on awakening your powers! Come on, I've got an apartment in town."
Well, it's a house, but calling it an apartment will annoy some of the locals, considering how large the property is and how expensive it is. They're annoying me, though, so it's fair.
Let them wonder what I consider an actual house.
"His kind can't-" the soldier attempting to stop Adam from entering begins to speak, and I slam him into the ground.
This is starting to get annoying. I dealt with the issue – mostly – when it came to Fairies and Beastborn, but it seems that I need to for – I glance at Adam real quick – Draconic Humans.

Nice Rank-Up without the Levels, Adam. He's probably more powerful than me, with it. There's a sort of power and strength in him that I can sense. Though that does make me wonder who really is the stronger between us, but for this, I'll just go with him, just in case.
"Listen here," I growl. "Adam is a valuable friend of mine, and so, he's going to be entering town. He will be treated with all the respect of 'normal' people, because I can assure you, the Draconic Human standing there? He can kill all of you with far more ease than I can, and you know just how easily I can kill you."
I release the soldier, then look at Adam, before glancing at the nude Demon Lord approaching us.
Cole and I really need to work on our Levels.
"Hey, Caleb," I greet Caleb. "Looks like you both decided to come here. How did your Species change?"
Adam looks over to Caleb, and I can tell he's shocked by the change in our Spawnling.
"I evolved," Caleb answers. "I heard you were having lots of adventures, and wanted to come have them, too. I still want to explore the world!"
"That's fine," I grin at him. "I've been hanging around this town since we parted ways eight months ago, getting stronger."
"Your VIT's at least gone up," Caleb says, and I laugh.
It's not just my VIT.
"Yeah, it has," I say. "So has my rating."
"I heard you made it to Orange," Caleb nods.
So he's gotten word of me? Was that from Max? But he'd know my current Rating.
"I'm Green," I nod. "Hit it last week."
"You were Orange two months ago!" Caleb exclaims.
"Yeah," I flash a smile at him, then decide I should see if he actually learned something, before revealing I know it already. "Since you're returning, I assume you've discovered something?"
"Yeah," Caleb nods. "Somewhere private we can talk?"
"Sure," I say. "We can head to my apartment."
"Their kind isn't allowed in town!" Someone yells.
The heck is up with people today? Have they forgotten where they live? Before I can react to the comment, I notice Max standing with the guy's head in one hand, a smile on his own face.
"My, my," he says. "Have we forgotten who's in charge?"
"Hey, Max," I say "Thought you went home?"
Again. You even said you'd probably not want to return, after the ass-whupping I gave you for unleashing the fucking Hellish Crusade on my city. Or are you really that big of a masochist?
"I did," Max winks at me. "Had a bit of fun, got some good sex in, then figured I'd come back and try and see if you'd do it with me again"
I dart over and smack him on the back of the head, and Adam looks over to us as I return to my spot.
"Oh, shit," someone says. "Jamie and Max are here."
I guess that means someone realized that shit needs to stop? Seriously! We're past this, people!
"What is going on here?" Someone yells, and a massive warrior steps forward, a huge sword strapped across his back. He's at least seven feet tall, and when he sees Caleb and Adam, his face twists in anger. "You-"
That's Light, isn't it? I turn Perspicacity back on, and it registers him as Light.
"Yo," I say, and the Fairy-in-disguise looks at me. "They're my friends."
"And mine!" Max pipes up, and the guy looks down at him.
"I thought you went back to whatever Divine Realm you came from?"
"Back temporarily," Max shrugs. "Wanted to see if Jamie would fuck me one last time before I can't come back for a long while. Ain't no cock like the forbidden cock, you know."
I give Max another smack to the back of the head, returning to where I was once more.
"They're friends of yours?" Light
"Yeah," I answer. "I can guarantee that neither will cause problems, only respond to those who do."
"You saying they're going in is enough," Light says.
Of course it is. This city should be past this shit.
Then again, Demons and draconic things have a much nastier reputation, so that might be why this is happening.
Too bad for the city, they're going to learn to accept my team, and we're going to go back to living casually, having fun, training, sending, and sex with people outside the team.
Speaking of sex…
Is it even a harem if I haven't actually slept with any of them?

A Broken World [Dropped Pending Rewrite]
This work has been dropped- because I am rewriting it. Look forward to the new and improved "A Broken World," now available HERE on Royal Road! Three thousand years ago, Demonic creatures invaded the world. Though their power seemed irresitable, a band of heroes managed to steal the knowledge of summoning rituals and worlds from them and created, "The Millenial Summoning." A powerful magic that would bring forth a being from another world with the power to change the world forever. The first being summoned became known as "The Speaker," and he brought the power of the Gods with him. Teaching prayers and invocations that blessed humanities legions and began to push back the demons, founding of the "The Church of the Spoken Word" rose to power and a stalemate was reached. Two thousand years ago, that stalemate was broken by the second casting of "The Millenial Summoning," and the arrival of "The First Sorceress," who taught humanity the basics of magic and enchanting. With the power of the Sorceress, the mages, and the priests the tide turned and the Demonic hordes began to be shoved back, signaling hopes of a golden age for mankind. One thousand years ago, the hopes of final victory and a new dawn for mankind were dashed by traitors who slew the participants of the ritual and took their places, using the ritual to bring forth a godlike being from the demons home world, "The Demon King," for no human knew his name, erased millenia of growth reducing humanity to barely a fragment of its former glory. Now the ritual is being cast again, and a new being is being summoned... In our world, after nearly two decades of studious work, Luke Jaeger is making his dream come true. Working and going to school full time, sacrificing his health and social life in his youth, Lucas obtained Doctorates in genetics and virology, as well as associate degrees in business and accounting. The modern world is not easy, and despite it nearly driving him mad from stress, this was the bare minimum he needed to be approved for a business loan to start a company focusing on commercial genetic therapy. Despite the challange of getting his business running, Lucas feels that his work has finally paid off. Lucas's car never left the banks lot, nor was Lucas ever seen again in our world.

However, his life changes drastically when he is chosen for one of the "Scouting" lotteries, in which the capital city forces some of the soulless to scout potential danger zones for monsters or enemy units.
