《Modern Deity》Chapter 55: Forest (8) ; Secret of the Lake

(ANs now down at bottom)
Kyte plunged into the water. His entire body submerged underneath its surface as he pierced into another world. The transition from the world of air to the world of water caused Kyte to inadvertently take in a deep breath. He could sense the denseness of water around his large bubble of air. The pressure was basically nonexistent at his current depth, however, that would surely change. Kyte mentally prepared himself for several minutes before he opened his eyes and began to move downward.
He saw the water part and curve around his sphere of air as he moved downward. The spirals seemed to move with him as he sped along. He was moving quite fast, about twenty miles an hour, though he didn’t want to move any faster. He knows he would eventually come across something down here and if he was going too fast, he might not be able to react quickly enough. Although he’s confident in being able to defend himself, there’s always that thought in the back of his mind about whether or not he would come across something stronger than anything he’s ever seen.
Anyway, as far as Kyte could tell, there’s nothing down there. So, he continued to speed downward. Bubbles were coming out of his air sphere as he continually converted black light into oxygen. He increased his speed by double because he was getting impatient. The depth was even greater than he thought it would be. The pressure around the air sphere was getting more intense as every minute passed. Kyte wondered if he would even be able to support the sphere if the depth just keeps increasing.
Outside of the air bubble, the light from the fire pierced into the water. However, the pressure was so intense and Kyte was so deep that the light seemed to be meeting resistance. The murky, pitch-black water was obstructing light from entering it. It was just too dark for any light to even exist at that depth. Not only that, but it looked like a ball of light was descending down the spiral trunk from outside of it. Kyte was like a beacon in a sea of darkness.
Kyte guesstimated that he was about a two miles beneath the surface. The spiral trunk had, at about the one mile mark, started to continually expand outward. When he saw his barrier spread away from him, Kyte began to slowly feel insecure. He was able to expand his air bubble as he descended, but that didn’t really change much.
About ten minutes later, Kyte’s Spirit energy met a barrier. It was half a mile below Kyte and, no matter how much he tried, his Spirit energy couldn’t pierce through it. The spiral trunk also stopped on this barrier, so Kyte assumed his energy reached the bottom of the lake. The diameter of the trunk had increased from fifty feet at the top of the lake to four hundred feet at the bottom. The only reason why Kyte was able to descend in a straight line is because he could perfectly align himself with the help of his Spirit energy.

The individual spirals of the trunk grew increasingly large the deeper Kyte traveled. Before they were about as thick as his head, but now, at the bottom, they were practically as thick as small buildings. Unfortunately the light from the fire was unable to illuminate the entire perimeter of the spiral trunk, so Kyte had to ‘see’ mainly with his Spirit energy.
At last, Kyte arrived at the bottom. As he descended onto the lake floor, the air sphere transformed to envelop a wider area. Kyte also decided to bring out a pre-created Moonlight’s Eclipse formation page and used it on himself. Kyte discovered that he was only able to use formations on himself when he had stable ground. For some reason it wouldn’t work while in the air or in water. He would have to test it out and reconfigure the formations to make them work.
Anyway, a light blue barrier encompassed a wide area of about twenty meters around Kyte. He expelled the water inside and filled the vacuum with oxygen before creating a larger flame. Kyte could feel that if the water pressure was at least one point five times greater than it was, the formation wouldn’t be able to handle it. It was probably because the formation was powered by energy from the seventh stage rather than the sixth stage.
From the larger flame came more light. However, a flame’s illumination can only bring so much at the bottom of a lake. Kyte was able to see about thirty feet more than before but nothing new showed up. He looked down at the solid ground he stood on and noticed that it wasn’t dirt but rather a weird type of stone he had never encountered before. He knelt down on one knee and softly touched the stone with his bare hand. It felt cold and metallic despite having a dark and scabrous appearance. It was unlike anything Kyte had ever seen or felt before.
As he moved his hand to the right, he felt an indention in the floor. Perhaps he didn’t notice it before, but when he looked up to examine the ground he discovered several other indentions. They looked to be in the form of lines that swerved in different directions, and some even overlapped with others. Kyte began to walk along one of the lines and followed its path around the floor.
As he was following it, he had taken out a pencil and paper. He drew that single line he followed, however, he also included all the other lines he encountered. After reaching just thirty meters away from the spiral trunk, Kyte noticed that the line he followed was perpendicularly intersected by another line. That new line stopped the old line and Kyte saw that it slightly curved when he observed its behavior farther away. He drew that new line with a slight curve in its form.
After he finished, he looked beyond the new line and discovered other perpendicular lines that connected with large, alien-like symbols that extended farther outward. Kyte furrowed his brows as he looked back down at his drawing. He got a small idea before he drew that new line to curve around his entire drawing, creating a circle. He closely studied the various lines he drew inside the circle and a small bulb of light suddenly turned on inside his head.

This is...a formation circle?
Kyte took a few steps back as his eyes swept from his drawing to the floor several times.
No, no no no no...that can’t be. What? How...why would there be a formation down here? I’d recognize a pattern like this anywhere. Then those symbols! It just...makes sense. But, why? My formation knowledge originates from Sol’keer’s universe. Why would there be a formation with the same structure type be down here? Unless...formation knowledge isn’t just UNIversal, but MULTIversal? Wait, ta-take a step back here.
If formations don’t belong to just one universe, that means the laws of formations aren’t limited to one universe. So then...there’s cultivators on this planet as well? No, cultivators aren’t the only ones in existence. If it wasn’t cultivators, then who? This planet’s Gifted is a sign that other powers exist as well, but...how long have Gifted existed? When did they come in existence? Were they always here? If there’s a formation here, that means Gifted have knowledge of formations, but who? When?
Ok, ok. There’s too many questions right now. The question I should be thinking of right now is...what does this formation do?
Kyte moved toward the alien symbols on the floor and closely examined them. They didn’t belong to any teachings he had learned from, so he assumed they were either not from Sol’keer’s universe or they were too complex for him to understand. He couldn’t make any sense of them. Just the first one seemed more complicated than the most difficult formation he’s ever learned.
As he tried to get a closer look, he noticed about the last fourth of the formation’s outer perimeter was underneath something. He looked to the left and right, noticing that it curved along the inside perimeter of the trunk. He moved the fire a bit closer which brightly illuminated the surroundings. Upon closer inspection, Kyte noticed…
These are...scales?!!! What the fuck!
Kyte instantly backed away and extinguished the fire. Everything changed to utter darkness. The only sound heard was Kyte’s erratic breathing. He was absolutely terrified. His Spirit energy did not discover anything scaly down at the bottom so that means whatever it is, it’s capable of blocking Spirit energy.
Kyte intensely listened with his ears for any movement sounds. He stared directly in-front of him as if he was trying to see something. In truth, he was just scared stiff. Imagine discovering the one thing you fear most at the bottom of a pitch-black lake?
He instantly equipped the Bloodcursed armor and applied Frozen Eclipse and Energy Blitz two times each to his armor before sending energy into them. He stored the energy within the formations and began to prepare for the worst. He sort of expected something like this would have happened, but when it actually did he just couldn’t believe it.
Kyte took deep breaths as he tried to calm himself. He turned around to look behind to check if there was anything there. Of course, he couldn’t actually see since everything was pitch black. He just felt panic rising within him even as he tried to calm down. His mind began imagining different monsters as he gazed into the darkness. He tried to stop but it just didn’t work.
Well...a fear isn’t called a fear because it can be overcome immediately.
A deathly silence permeated throughout the area. It was like an endless void of nothingness that surrounded Kyte. Suddenly, Kyte felt something move. It was the slightest movement that was only able to be noticed by him because of how silent it was. That movement was like a bomb going off in Kyte’s head. That sound signified that whatever was down there with him had moved.
A few seconds later, Kyte felt a crushing pressure force him down to his knees. This pressure was different than the water pressure that was continuously pressing down on his air sphere. This pressure felt as if it originated from a living thing. It was a controlled phenomenon used by one to pressure another. This type of control came from an intelligent creature with the capacity to comprehend their existence, just like humans.
As Kyte looked in-front of him, he saw something he would never forget. An eye slowly appeared as if an eyelid was lifting up. The eye glowed with a golden light and the pupil was a vertical slit that was directly facing him. Lines of red spiraled around the golden iris which seemed to radiate an intense brightness. Kyte stared at that eye for several seconds, as if it was the only thing that existed. Technically, in that world of pure darkness, that brilliant eye was the sole existence he could perceive.
Kyte crawled a few spaces backward. Suddenly, his formation bubble popped the moment he sensed it touch something. Water instantly surrounded him underneath the extreme strength of pressure. Fortunately the Bloodcursed armor helped negate some of the pressure, otherwise Kyte would have had to use his full strength to resist it.
Then, a voice that felt like it came from an almighty being resounded throughout the entire area:
“No matter what silly costumes you adorn yourself with, I will always discover your smell, Human.”
I apologize for no chapter yesterday (I actually would have released this on Sunday.), as I had been quite busy. I had no access to a computer for the last two days so I had to finish and post this chapter today. Fortunately I was able to finish it. Also, it seems to backfire whenever I ask you readers to give me some motivation (for the most part), however, I appreciate the readers that did indeed comment and review my story. Thanks to those few!
Also, I created a guide on how to edit your fiction description just like mine! Here's the link: Link!
It's not that difficult. Of course, it'll take you some time, but if you want a nice, colorful description then I suggest checking it out!

(I'm taking some time off to rewrite certain scenes and improve the quality of my writing. I'll restart updating the fiction once done it.) Update: at the moment, I don't feel like continuing this story. I'm working on another one in my free time, thus I don't know if I will ever come back to Ereborus. The mercenary is among the victims of the disaster. Or maybe not. They wake up again in a dilapidated Soldra where strange creatures now roam around freely. Will they survive in this post-catastrophic scenery and understand what really happened? Disclaimer/Trigger Warning: In future, there will be scenes with gore, graphic deaths and animal cruelty. Moreover, considering that the mc is a non-binary mercenary, cases of PTSD and misgendering may be included.
