《Modern Deity》Chapter 52: Forest (5) ; Memories (2)

I actually finished this chapter yesterday and I wanted to get a head start on chapter 53 but I got sidetracked. I also finally saw Deadpool, which was an awesome movie. Also, please leave a review, comment, and whatever else might be important for me. You guys may not know, but comments and stuff are very motivating and they help us authors write more chapters, faster. Reviews do the same. The logical ones, anyway. You can't just give a low rating without explaining why (That's a dick move).
Anyway, enjoy.
Kyte watched those Gifted as they suddenly fell to the ground, gripping their heads. They seemed to be silently screaming with their eyes shut tight. Of the five Gifted on the ground, two had streams of tears falling off their faces. The others were just rolling around with pained expressions. It was quite a weird scene, mostly because there was no noise. However, it was because of that silence that made it seem even more horrifying.
Watching it play out, Kyte didn’t really know what to do. He wondered if the same thing happened to him, but when he woke up he was still in the same position as he was before he went to sleep. It seemed like only his tears in the dream was connected to reality, and this was the first time he experienced such a incident. Kyte was also using this event as a sort of experiment. The results would show whether or not the unsuccessful unsealing of memories led to delirium seen with the creatures.
As the Gifted watched the other five undergo their unsealing, they began to grow a bit agitated themselves.
“What’s happening?”
“Why are they…?”
“Don’t worry, just stand back and watch. It’ll take some time for it stop.”
Kyte said as he walked forward in-between the Gifted and the other five. He moved the normal Gifted farther away from the five to make sure they wouldn’t try anything stupid. He kept his Spirit energy spread throughout the entire area, just in case something other than the Gifted tried anything stupid. Next, Kyte asked that one Gifted to make a chair for him. The Gifted, mainly out of fear, ‘happily’ complied and immediately created an earth chair for him. Thus, Kyte sat down and began to observe the entire process.

-Several hours later-
While the other Gifted were unable to do anything, thus their incredible boredom, Kyte was quite interested in the unsealing process. He doesn’t know why the sealing and unsealing occur so he wondered if he could obtain some sort of enlightenment regarding the ability to manipulate mental states, mainly memories. He still doesn’t know the origin of the mist or the sealing of memories. He can’t remember when the sealing started or where it started ironically enough.
By now, three of the five Gifted were completely asleep. They stopped thrashing around and were calm, however the other two were still gripping their heads in pain. Kyte recorded the elapsed time between the start and now, and the three calm Gifted had stopped their wild mannerisms exactly four hours after they started. It was now five hours and forty minutes after the start of their tribulation.

About twenty minutes later, the two remaining Gifted suddenly stopped their wild movements. Kyte intensely watched them. A few seconds later, both of them stood up and snapped their eyes open. Seeing their eyes, Kyte immediately stood up and placed binding formations on their arms and legs which made them fall to the ground. They intensely convulsed, trying to break free of the bindings but they ultimately failed. They crazily screamed in anger and frustration and continued to writhe around on the ground.
“What happened to them?!” A Gifted yelled.
Kyte stood up and said:
“Calm down! I have them bound so they can’t move around. Other than moving their bodies around, which can’t do much anyway. Leave the other three alone, they’re fine. I’ll personally take care of these two who are...unsuccessful.”
“But, what if the other-”
“Like. I. Said. Those three are fine. Leave them alone, they’ll wake up when they do. I won’t let these other two harm you guys, either.”
Now, I wonder how I’ll study these two. I wonder if I inject some of my Spirit energy I’ll be able to feel around inside their minds…? Hmmm, I’ve never tried that before. I should start with safe subjects first, like the other three that successfully unsealed their memories.
Kyte looked over to the three gifted silently lying on the ground and then back at the two that were struggling in his binding formations.
Yea, definitely safer to use mentally stable subjects first.
Kyte breathed out a sigh of annoyance because of the constant screaming. He inserted some Internal energy into their throats and severed their vocal cords before reconstructing them and healing them. It’s not like Kyte is a professional with the human body so he was basically winging it when he reconstructed and healed their vocal cords. Though, since they weren’t making any noise and they weren’t suffering, Kyte assumed it was a success. Mostly.
Anyway, Kyte got straight to work on his research. He implanted a piece of Spirit energy into one of the three calm Gifted and sent his consciousness into it. That process was actually significantly more difficult than Kyte had originally surmised. So, instead of sending his entire consciousness into another person’s mind, he decided to insert a piece of his consciousness. Instead of the word consciousness, Kyte referred to it as his Will. Kind of like he was sending an intelligent message that could act out a process which could lead to the objective goal, almost acting like a sentient being on its own. Of course, it actually wasn’t sentient per se. It was only a piece of Kyte’s Will that acted out his plans. It’s quite complicated.
Kyte used that piece of Will to observe the inside of the Gifted’s mind. This process was only possible because Kyte’s soul was exponentially more powerful than the Gifted’s. Otherwise, Kyte would be blocked by the naturally existent walls within a person’s soul. Of course, the Dementia skill gives Kyte the ability to forcefully break those walls because his Spirit energy wouldn’t have his Will to guide it, thus rendering it a foreign and berserk existence.

Using that piece of Will as a proxy, Kyte delved into the Gifted’s soul. It felt as if his mind was sucked through a tunnel of white colorlessness that took away all the senses that composed his existence. After what felt like eternity, which was actually an instantaneous action, Kyte found himself standing in a space devoid of color. However, it was a different colorlessness than the black light. This, instead, was white rather than black.
Looking around, Kyte noticed that the space he was in seemed endless. He couldn’t even sense a beginning or an end to this bizarre expanse. However, he discovered something within it. Behind Kyte was a clear sphere that had a tint of light blue covering it. Along with that, there were several layers within the sphere. Kyte walked toward it, taking notice that all of his senses were nonexistent. Instead of sight Kyte felt as if he could perfectly ‘sense’ everything around him.
Once he was closer to the sphere, Kyte saw what looked like a small, dense ball of light. It faintly shined with a brilliance unlike anything Kyte had ever seen before. It seemed otherworldly, like a mystical sun was illuminating the inside of the sphere. However, it seemed strangely...mechanical in nature. Kyte was instantly intrigued by that ball of light, so he reached out and pushed against the outer layer of the sphere.
Instantly, the entire white realm convulsed and shook. A roaring sound entered Kyte’s mind as he slid through the outer sphere. The outer sphere shattered, causing the realm’s shaking to intensify. Kyte took several steps back and noticed that the ball of light’s brilliance slightly dimmed. Cursing, Kyte sat down and began to think.
So my conjecture was right. These spheres are a type of wall preventing outside powers from getting in. If that’s the case, then souls should be created with the intent to protect themselves? From what? And this is assuming every soul has this defense system. And why did the ball dim? Its nature doesn’t seem natural enough either...Well, what exactly is natural? Maybe this is normal for souls. What is this place anyway? It’s completely different from my experience of my own soul. Maybe there’s a difference between the soul and consciousness? Ugh, this is pretty complicated.
Kyte sat there pondering these many mysteries before trying to experiment once again. The first thing he tried was sending some of his Will through the next sphere. That completely failed so he switched to his second idea. He created a thread of Spirit energy and controlled it to move toward the sphere. It was mildly obstructed, however, it passed through the barrier without shattering it.
There were four layers total so, now that two were bypassed, there were only two left. Kyte directed the Spirit energy further through the sphere. Soon it reached the third barrier. After releasing a deep breath, Kyte led the thread into the barrier. The realm slightly shuddered as the thread forced its way through the third sphere.
Hooo, ok. Time of the last one.
The moment the thread touched the last barrier, the entire realm violently shook. Trying his best to ignore the constant rumbling, Kyte pierced right through the final barrier. The Spirit energy thread slowly entered the space around the ball of light. The shaking’s intensity instantly increased. Kyte was using all his strength to stay still and focus on the operation.
He moved the thread forward and touched the ball of light. Instantaneously, memories began to ceaselessly flood into Kyte’s mind. Memories of childhood, high school, kidnapping, torture, revenge, friendship, and love overwhelmingly entered and overlapped with Kyte’s own memories.
Sensing extreme danger, Kyte instantly pulled out and exited the Gifted’s soul and returned to his own body. He blasted up into the air and crazily flew in every direction, smashing into trees and thrashing about on the ground. He ravaged his throat by incessantly screaming at the top of his lungs. Kyte savagely tore open the ground with his fists; he smashed his feet into the earth, creating giant craters that caused long and deep cracks to spread out into the surrounding area.
The Gifted that were watching this scene grew dumbfounded. One second Kyte was completely silent, the next he was behaving like those creatures. In reality, the amount of time Kyte spent inside that Gifted’s soul was equivalent to a split second in the real world. The flow of time is always different when inside a different space, and it’s up to the person involved whether or not they can control that flow. Of course, in order to do so, one must be proficient in spatial abilities and practices.
Due to having almost thirty years of memories, that didn’t belong to him, flood to his mind, Kyte was having an existential crisis. He wondered whether he was the Gifted named Laken Blake or the abnormality named Kyte Stone. The memories were so vivid it was like he himself were there experiencing it. The reason why he was going mentally insane was because the amount of memories he unintentionally obtained spanned a longer time period than Kyte was alive. Kyte was only eighteen and a half while he got almost thirty years worth of memories from that Gifted. Those memories were overpowering his own due to their greater strength in quantity and emotions.
However, Kyte’s subconsciousness wouldn’t let something so stupid defeat him. It temporarily pulled Kyte’s consciousness back into the deep recesses of the mind, keeping Kyte’s memories safe. Due to this, the memories he obtained were allowed to run rampant through his mind.
