______________________________________________________________________________________________
Another day passed, and it was currently the day of the mission. The previous day, Kyte went back to Lakewood Forest to practice manipulating the black light. It was still difficult as ever, but he felt that he was making progress no matter how little it was. What Kyte is confident in doing is manifesting the black light outside his body. However, it just dances around randomly in-front of him. It takes a lot of concentration to get control over it.
Regardless of that, Kyte was still in the high Champion stage. Then again, he wasn't really looking to breakthrough into the seventh stage. It's wasn't too long ago that he achieved high Champion stage, so breaking through so fast would be impossible.
After several hours of lazing around and playing with the black light, it was finally time for the mission. Akina gathered everyone at the kitchen table.
"Alright everyone, there are no changes to the plan formation. Just keep calm and stay focused. We don't need any more mistakes."
"Yea, you got that right."
"Let's go."
Everyone got up and left the apartment which only had Light, Jol, and Lucy left. After leaving, everyone quickly sped up toward the mission location.
Kyte spread his Internal energy into the storage necklace and brought out a few blue-colored pills.
"Here, everyone take one of these."
"What are they?"
"They are something like an energy recovery pill. Only take it if you feel really tired."
"Did you make these?"
"No, my...someone gave them to me."
"Ah...I see."
Sensing slight melancholy in Kyte's voice, Akina held back her questions. She was very curious as to where Kyte was getting all of these things. Well, she was mostly curious about who gave them to Kyte.
After traveling for about half an hour, everyone arrived in-front of the store. There were still some random cars in the gigantic parking lot, but other than that, there was no one to be seen. All the lights inside the store were off, showing that no one was inside.
Just in case, Kyte spread out his Spirit energy throughout the store and discovered that there was really no one in there. It was a little past midnight when they arrived so it's to be expected. Other than that, Kyte found an elevator inside a wall behind several boxes in the back storage.
"Everyone, I found a hidden elevator inside a wall in the back storage."
"Huh? How did you find that out?"
"I already told you before right? I have this special thing that allows me to do that kind of stuff."
"Alright. Everyone, go inside now. I'll be staying out here to keep watch. I officially start the mission...now!"
Everyone's expression turned serious as they quickly sprinted toward the store. Shadow corroded the doors so that they could be easily pushed open and after that everyone sped inside.

"Guys, don't worry about the cameras, I've already taken care of them." Kyte said as he destroyed the electrical circuits inside the cameras with Internal energy.
Hearing that, everyone continued toward the storage room while closely behind Kyte. They entered the storage and Kyte quickly found the wall that was covering the elevator. He focused his Spirit energy in the area and found a switch near the floor that was covered by the wall. Reaching down, Kyte put his hand through the wall, which was actually a very soft-type of material that easily let Kyte's hand through. Feeling the switch, Kyte pulled and heard a small *chink*.
The wall in-front of them opened up to reveal what looked like a stainless steal interior with hand-rails covered in a very soft fabric. Everyone went inside after Kyte closely examined everything with his Spirit energy and found nothing wrong. Not like he knows how elevators work, anyway.
There were two buttons inside the elevator. One had an arrow pointing downward and the other pointing upward. Kyte pressed the downward arrow and the elevator began to quickly descend. It took about thirty seconds to finally stop. The doors opened, and to their surprise....
"Huh? Who are you guys?...!!"
Kyte quickly reached out and grabbed the man that was outside the elevator. He slashed his neck and speedily absorbed all the blood in the man's body. Afterward, Kyte searched around and found an I.D. card on the man.
"Mark Sickerburg...Research Team."
"There's actually people down here..."
"This mission just got a bit harder, but we'll manage."
Kyte stood up and walked outside the elevator. He could hear the voices of several people in different locations. By looking at the underground factory from his angle, he could see that the factory was indeed huge. It was approximately as big as the parking lot, except the ceiling was very high up.
There were giant machines placed in long rows that seemed to go all the way down to the other side. Most of the machines were assembling different mechanical parts together while others looked to hold a weird green liquid.
"Everyone, leave the humans to me. I'm able to silently kill them. I leave the regular B rank Guardians to you, Shadow. For now, Dan I want you to go with Shadow. Rose and I can handle everything else."
"Who put you in charge, hmm?"
"What, I'm just expressing my opinion."
"Hmph...to be honest, I think that's for the best. I can already tell that your defense is pretty high, although not as high as mine, it's still good enough. I think Akina may have underestimated you. Remember, destroy everything."
"Hahahaha, of course, of course."
Kyte took a step forward and an unconscious smile appeared on his face. He felt tingly sensations all over his body which only elated the excitement he was feeling. He began to lightly chuckle as he tried to calm himself down.
Is this the rage from the Bloodrage technique acting up again?...Ahhhh....hahaha...
Kyte deeply exhaled, and the air that escaped his lungs was slightly shaken.
"Ah, fuck! I can't take it anymore!"
Kyte explosively dashed forward, leaving behind several cracks in the ground with every step he took. He immediately created two energy swords for both his hands and began to crazily release surges of energy in every direction. The two swords danced around sporadically. Humans that were overseeing the machines working were instantly destroyed. Blood and organs continually sprayed out in every direction, and the blood would immediately be absorbed and disappear.

Seeing as they couldn't do anything to stop him, the other three just went along with it. Besides, the mission is supposed to be a destruction mission, not a sneak-in-and-assassinate-type of mission.
The giant machines were quickly being corroded by Shadow's black energy and Dan was simultaneously protecting him from the B rank Guardians. However, what they didn't expect was the amount of Guardians present. They completely underestimated the number of Guardians and so they were quickly continuing toward a disadvantageous position.
Although Shadow's offensive power is comparable to B rank Guardians, the corrosion process still takes several seconds to be effective. Dan's white mist was originally for defensive purposes, however, his mist's real power is its abnormal power of condensing itself into a very strong solid. The spikes and swords that Dan manifests are strong enough to effortlessly slice through the armor of B rank Guardians.
Rose's red energy seemed to be an energy that is very high in temperature. Although it's mainly suited for use against biological enemies, the red energy is nonetheless very powerful. Besides, Rose's innate born power is comparable to a Bronze A rank, so it's already quite powerful.
Likewise, Kyte's level of power was immeasurable. Due to having several different types of techniques to increase his power, Kyte's power could be at B rank and even go up to maybe Silver A rank. The reason why his body is able to withstand such a huge increase in power is mostly because of his skeleton, which evolves fairly quickly. The absorption of blood from living things also contributed to his body's increase in durability.
After creating a path toward the back of the factory, Kyte spotted two crimson colored Guardians quickly sprinting toward him. Kyte spread out his Spirit energy to encompass both of them, and it was at this time that they attacked.
Kyte raised both of his energy swords and blocked the Guardians morphed blades. However, Kyte felt the intense pressure that transmitted from their blows. The strength of A rank Guardians are no where near the strength of an S rank Guardian, but they are still very strong...at least as strong as Dan when he uses his full strength.
Feeling this, Kyte was thrown back several steps so he equipped Shadow Twins to instantly increase his power. He then took out Heavy Air and covered it with crimson-colored energy before activating Bloody Acceleration. Right at the end of Bloody Accel, two blades came rushing toward Kyte and he quickly raised both of his swords to block them.
Kyte felt that the pressure from the Guardians' attacks was lesser than before, although not by a large margin. Still, it reassured Kyte that his increase in strength wasn't insignificant.
Kyte flung the two Guardians away from him. His Spirit energy closed in on a small box inside the heads of the two Guardians.
Found it.
Kyte blasted toward the Guardian on his left and began to wildly attack it as he aimed for its head.
"Everyone, just destroy the heads to get rid of the pulse-signal!"
Kyte blasted a Sonic blade toward the Guardian as he felt the other swinging its arm toward him. The Sonic blade sliced the Guardian in-front of him in half, and as that happened, he used Heavy Air to crash down on-top of its head as he simultaneously used the momentum to raise his left arm in order to block the Guardian behind him. The blade smashed against Kyte's energy sword and blasted him back into a giant machine. The side of the machine was visibly indented from Kyte's impact, and afterward Kyte fell from the machine onto his feet.
Looking up, Kyte saw another blade slicing toward his face. He quickly ducked and rolled to the side just to see the machine being sliced in half by the force of the swing. The Guardian quickly leaped toward Kyte as he sent out a Sonic blade toward its legs. Just as it was going to hit, the Guardian somersaulted in the air before projecting a small gun-like weapon from its chest.
"Oh sh-"
Right as a green laser slightly exited the weapon, a beam of red energy crashed into the side of the Guardian, making the laser go off course. The laser swept past Kyte and completely decimated the surroundings. It would penetrate through every single material in the factory, and as the Guardian flipped through the air, the laser was sent everywhere. It even shot through the ceiling out into the air of the night.
Kyte quickly leaped toward the Guardian and used Heavy Air to smash its head. Pieces of metal went flying everywhere as the Guardian was smashed into the wall on the other side. However...
"Everyone..."
"What?"
"I wasn't able to stop it from sending out a pulse-signal."
"...Now what?"
"We get out of here as fast as we can!"
There were still a lot of B rank Guardians left. Dan and Shadow hadn't even finished destroying all of the machines, either. Kyte looked around and ground his teeth before saying:
"Everyone, leave! I can take care of the rest!"
"What?! We won't leave you!" Dan shouted as he smashed a Guardian in half.
"Yes you will! We have no other choice! The S rank Guardian will be here soon, you guys can still make it out. I can stay here and clear out the rest of them!"
"You really think we could do such a thi-"
"LEAVE!"
Kyte mixed Internal energy with his voice which visibly shocked everyone. At that moment, Kyte leaped toward Rose and picked her up. He cleared a path toward the elevator with Heavy Air. Dan and Shadow followed closely behind him.
Once they reached the elevator, Kyte threw Rose into it.
"Kyte, I'll stay here with you." Dan said.
Kyte didn't say anything as he picked Shadow up and threw him next to Rose. He pressed the up arrow and left the elevator. Just as the doors were closing, Kyte's figure flickered before appearing before Dan. He swung Heavy Air toward him and blasted Dan back into the elevator.
"Kyte-!"
Half a second later, the doors closed.
Kyte turned around and watched the numerous Guardians flooding toward him.

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
