《Modern Deity》Chapter 8: The Seal

When Kyte entered his home, his rage was now gone and it was replaced with a disgusting feeling that spread out through his whole body. His legs started to tremble as he walked to the restroom on the first floor.
Strongly swinging the door open, Kyte fell to his knees and crawled to the toilet. Lifting the seat, Kyte proceeded to puke into the toilet bowl. Over and over again, Kyte puked until there was nothing left in his stomach.
For some reason, Kyte would picture his two parent's dead bodies. That image would mix with the exploded bodies of Asshole's family, and Asshole himself. The decapitation of Asshole's two friends made it even worse.
Two streams of tears fell down his cheeks and his body continually wanted to puke, even if there was nothing left to throw up. The urge to puke was uncontrollable, along with the unending fall of tears.
Gasping for air, Kyte felt the burning sensation in his throat. Swallowing made the flesh in his throat roughly rub against each other which made the pain many times worse.
Sending out his Spirit energy, Kyte found water bottles inside his fridge and used his Internal energy to grab them and bring two of them. He gulped down the cold water which soothed his throat, although some of the pain still remained.
His stomach felt like it had been torn apart from his muscles contracting so violently many times. His back ached from the pain that was brought by the roughly ten minutes of continuous puking. His face was stained with tears, and the area around his eyes was a red color.
With his eyes bloodshot, Kyte turned to look up and poured a stream of water on his face. The refreshing cold water made him quickly gasp for air, and after a couple of seconds he began to calm down.
Putting the water bottle down and opening his eyes, Kyte wiped away the water on his face with a towel before trying to calm his breathing down to normal.
While huddling in the corner of the restroom with the towel in his arms, tears gradually fell down his cheeks once more. Kyte stuffed his face in the towel and let out a few screams before finally reaching a rather calm state of mind after another ten minutes.
Suddenly, Sol'keer asked in a soft voice:
"Have you calmed down yet?"
"......Yea."
"I didn't expect you to react so harshly. You were pretty ruthless when you were killing them."
"I guess so...I even wanted to kill all those people in the crowd as well...what kind of fucking monster am I...?"
"...........I knew this would happen sooner or later. It's time I told you the drawbacks of the Bloodrage technique."
"The drawbacks?"
"Yea. You were supposed to learn of this in the Champion stage, however, I didn't expect you to react so severely. Anyway, the only real, I guess you can call it, drawback, is that the more blood or life force you absorb the more you thirst for blood. Some of my disciples in my world were consumed by it, and others were able to control it."

"That sounds...actually I'm not sure how I should react to that."
"It's kind of ironic, don't you think? Sometimes, attaining great power comes at a cost. Sadly, not everyone can afford that cost. The Bloodrage technique consumes the weak ones, and in turn, it gives power to the strong ones. Even I, the creator of the Bloodrage technique, was almost consumed by it. Luckily I wasn't."
"Heh, I guess so."
"I think it would be best to rest for today. Go ahead and get to your bed to sleep. Besides, you got a lot of Spirit energy and life force."
"Yea, I think so too."
As Kyte was climbing the stairs to his bedroom, he said:
"Hey, Sol'keer."
"What?"
"Thanks."
"....Get some sleep."
"Yea."
As Kyte drifted off to sleep in his bed, he of course wouldn't know that Sol'keer faintly smiled before unlocking a section in the Inheritance.
________________________________________________________
Opening his eyes, Kyte sat up in his bed. Sunlight shown through his room, lighting it up while Kyte squinted his eyes.
After washing up, Kyte did his daily practice with his breathing, Raging Palms, and Windwalker. He also trained his Spirit energy, which slowly improved the more he trained it.
Eventually, a couple hours go by and Kyte suddenly notices something...
"Hey, Sol'keer. You're awfully quiet today right you?"
...
No answer.
"Sol'keer. Hey. Stop joking around, I know you're there."
...
"Sol'keer? Dude, answer me. Sol'keer?..."
...
"H-hey, Sol'keer...why aren't you answering? Come on, stop joking with me..."
........
"SOL'KEER! Answer me!"
........
At this moment, a single tear slid down Kyte's cheek.
"Sol....Sol'keer, please answer me..."
.......
"...Gosh damn it...."
Sliding down onto his bottom, Kyte put his back against his room's wall and began to quietly cry. A towering feeling of loneliness smashed down on his shoulders as tears continued to fall down his cheeks.
However, suddenly, Kyte had a flash of go through his mind.
"Huh?...This information wasn't in my memory before...what?"
As if remembering something he had forgotten long ago, all the information regarding Soul Sealing appeared in his mind.
Following this information, Kyte started to sharply focus on his inner Internal and Spirit energy.
Among the vast ocean of Internal and Spirit energy, Kyte could faintly sense a different kind of Spirit energy. This was Sol'keer's soul. It's not that he didn't want to talk, it's just that he doesn't have the energy to do so.
Heh, so that's how it is. Time to get to work.
Since Sol'keer had unlocked the section regarding Soul Seals, Kyte assumed that he also unlocked at least one treasure that is suitable for Soul Sealing. And of course, Sol'keer did just that.
Taking out the treasure, it ended up being a pure white ring with black stripes. Kyte had no clue what it was able to do, and even when he probed it with his Spirit energy he couldn't find anything out. So, this ring is definitely a treasure that is far above him at the moment.

Anyway, after Kyte took the ring out he went to his backyard and drew a small formation on the back patio. The formation itself looked quite complex if you just looked at it, but actually drawing it was quite easy. Also, since Kyte already had all the information required, it was even easier. Although, it is Kyte's first time attempting a Soul Sealing, so he doesn't know what will happen. He just hopes that it will be successful.
After Kyte finished drawing the small formation, he placed the ring in the middle of it. Sitting down next to it, he searched for Sol'keer's soul and tried to drag it out from his body. Why was it in Kyte's body? Well...where else would it be? Besides, the Inheritance isn't exactly 'linked' with Sol'keer anymore.
Kyte greatly struggled to remove Sol'keer's soul, almost taking up half of his available Spirit energy to take it out. He quickly made a ball of Spirit and Internal energy around Sol'keer's soul while proceeding to poke his finger with a small needle, letting a drop of blood fall onto the formation.
The formation soaked up the drop of blood and it began to faintly shine with a red glow. A small hole-like apparition appeared on the side of the ring, and guiding Sol'keer's soul to the hole, Kyte tried to insert it inside. Right when Sol'keer's soul touched the opening, it suddenly started to react violently.
Almost losing control of his Spirit and Internal energy, Kyte regained his calm composure and used even more energy to hold Sol'keer's soul in place. After making a tunnel for it to go through into the ring, Kyte used Spirit and Internal energy to move Sol'keer's soul forward. It started to react even more violently, and by this time Kyte's Spirit and Internal energy were depleted.
However, through the golden ball in his mind, more Spirit energy surged forth. Unfortunately, in exchange, the golden ball started to shrink in size. However, Kyte didn't care as he used all his available Spirit energy to push Sol'keer's soul into the ring.
Several beads of sweat dropped from Kyte's body and he felt incredibly weak. He continued the Soul Sealing, not letting a single chance appear for Sol'keer's soul to escape and disappear.
Suddenly, Sol'keer's soul entered the ring. The formation on the ground instantaneously moved and covered the hole-like apparition, completely sealing the whole ring with a Soul Seal.
It was a success!
However, some successes come with a price. Kyte's golden ball had shrunk by nearly two times it's size, and it was even smaller than when it had first appeared. Likewise, the Internal energy in his body was almost non-existent.
When the Soul Seal completed, Kyte immediately fell on his side and fainted.
______________________________________________________________
--Several hours later--
Opening his eyes, Kyte's felt like his body was on fire. He could barely sit up there was so much pain racking his body. However, when he caught sight of the ring with a smaller version of the formation on it, he smiled.
"Success! Hahaha!"
Kyte wanted to fist bump in the air, but when he lifted his arms he felt incredible pain soar through them.
"Ahaha, I should definitely just rest. Luckily there's some pills to restore Internal Energy."
Picking up the ring and putting it on his right middle finger, Kyte literally crawled back into his house and up to his room to lay on his bed. It took him about twenty minutes to do so, and he was very tired when he finally climbed onto his bed.
Taking out a pill, he swallowed it and instantly felt it take affect. A cool, soothing sensation spread throughout his body.
Luckily, after searching through his body, Kyte discovered that his Internal Stage did not drop. In fact, the quantity and quality was increasing. The only bad thing that occurred was the huge drop in Spirit energy power. The golden marble had decreased in size so much, that the change that happened with his eyes and how his body felt had reverted back to normal.
This sucks. But, it's worth it. Just as long as Sol'keer is safe.
Plus, it's not like Kyte can't actually help him. Sure, Sol'keer would naturally recover his Spirit energy and his overall power after a while. However, the amount of time that would require is monumental. Possibly over a hundred years.
The good thing is that Kyte is able to feed Sol'keer's soul with his own Spirit energy through the ring. Although, with Kyte's current state, his Spirit energy wouldn't do much. All he could do right now is rest to recover his Internal and Spirit energy. Once he had recovered, he would then start to practice again. It would take a while to regain all the lost Spirit energy, but at least he could still train. Just that is enough motivation to Kyte.
Plus, even if his Spirit energy was vastly stronger than his Internal energy, it would not improve his strength by a lot. Of course, it would increase his strength to a certain degree. However, without his Internal energy being at least close to his Spirit energy level, then the benefits wouldn't be as much.
Right now, Kyte has almost no food left. He still has several weeks before his time limit will have been reached. Although, he is confident with his ability to hide himself out in the open. But, he doesn't want to take any chances. He decided to only go out once he has regained his lost power at the most.
Thinking that, Kyte drifted off to sleep...

World Wonderer
Mari was happily whisking up some butterscotch slice when our story suddenly whisks her into another world. You'd think it'd be the beginning of another classic Isekai adventure, but it soon becomes clear that things won't be so easy...Her nerdy-teenage-genius summoner has trapped her in his room, no one speaks English, and Mari's gut is NOT prepared for a whole new world of bacteria. Can Mari overcome the travel diarrhea, learn a whole new language and escape before she develops Stockholm syndrome? Most of all, can she learn to flourish in a world so different, yet so similar to her own? ****** Author note: This story is written in response to all the unrealistic, plot-armour Isekais out there. I believe that adventures are more fun when there are unexpected surprises and challenges to be had. That said, this is my virgin voyage into writing an ongoing fiction, so please take care of me @[email protected] Constructive critisms, suggestions and typos in the comments would be most appreciated!
