《Hero Delivery》chapter 40

On a green green world, in a place hidden by trees, in a house, a woman starts to wake up.

“Hey.” A man says rushing to the woman's side, “hey, hey”

The woman looks around groggily, and starts to sit up, “What?”

“Slowly now.” The man puts his hand on the woman's shoulder helping her to a sitting position.

The woman grabs her head, feeling like crap, “What's going on?”

“You had a massive fever, and passed out.” The man said seriously.

The woman was starting to feel better, and was finally getting a good look at her surroundings finding a lot of strange paraphernalia, cauldrons, herbs, amulets, brooms, and a lot of random vials, “Where are we?”

“In a friend's place.”

The woman looked at the man confused until she remembers, "Is this the witch's hut?"

“Got it in one.”

“Why did we come here?”

“Thought she was your best chance.” The man said chagrined.

“Was it that bad?” The woman still felt bad but she could feel herself getting better.

The man shook his head unsure, “Honestly, I have no idea. I don't know what happened to you. What's the last thing you remember?”

“You were bringing a god...” The woman's voice trailed off, confused.

“A what?”

The woman shook her head not believing what she remembered, it was just…silly, “That has to be delirium.”

The man wore a big smile, “What did I bring?

“...a cat?” She asked hesitantly.

“Correct.” The man nodded, “Then you passed out, and now we are here.”

“I take it she fixed me?” The woman asked as the witch walked into the room.

“No, you got better on your own.” The witch answered.

“Oh. But I feel much better...” the woman's words started to trail off as she looked at the witch. A feeling of connection locked into place. With that, her mind began to flood with memories.

——

Everything is fire and dust, swirling through the chaos of the void. Then she appeared. She comes from the chaos, forming from the primordial. She stands among the chaos separate and alone. She looks out into her new domain, nothing but stardust. She looks down and finds it wanting. "Become."

She speaks imposing her will on everything she sees. The dust collapses into a massive ball, forming in a molten sphere, shifting and chaotic. She looks upon her knew creation with a smile, but feels something is missing. Something small. "Break."

Her will forms into a fist flying forward striking her creation. A piece of molten earth rips away forming into a second small ball just above the earth rotating, cooling, and orbiting her world.

The god looks down and watches her world cool. She smiled feeling proud of her flying rocks. At least for a time.

Then the void came to consume her world. There was no life for it to consume, but it was still attracted non the less. She felt their wrongness and found she didn’t like it. She found all the little monsters, “Leave.”

Using her will she easily banished the rotten little creatures out of her universe, but their appearance made her realize she was missing something. Life.

She wandered around her world searching for a way to bring life to her flying rocks. She felt the knowledge locked somewhere deep with her, but couldn't figure out how to bring it out. As she walked upon her world she felt her power being pulled away into the earth. She could feel the tiniest of potential for life. There she smiled and found herself going deep into the earth, where she slept. She slept letting her power seep into the world, seeding it with life and her own power.

——

Back in a green green world, in a witch's hut, a woman comes back to herself.

“What?” The woman shakes her head in disbelief, “No I can't be.”

“What?” The man asked a little panicked.

“I...I...remember but I cant be.”

The man looked at her realizing what happened and smiles, “But you are.”

The woman froze, and looked at the man in disbelief, “You knew?”

“Yes I knew, and I also knew you weren't ready.”

“How could I not be ready?” The woman stared at the man, “It’s who I am.”

Shaking his head, “Not yet.”

“Why did you get to decide?” The woman asked starting to get angry.

“Because I was the only one who could.”

“We...” The woman was about to yell at the man when she suddenly felt, a burning deep inside her, “Somethings wrong. I burn. My world is burning and dying.” She looks to the man anger forgotten, “We need to go.”

The witch looked between the two starting to understand the place they were talking about, “The Earth?”

“Yes, witch your home. Monsters have come.” The man said solemnly.

“What? But how is that possible? Earth is supposed to be safe” The witch said with rising panic.

“It was never safe.”

“It was from monsters!” The witch yelled in frustration.

The man let out a sigh, “No, they were always coming.”

The woman grabbed the man's shoulder, “We need to go.”

“I’m coming with you!” The witch declared.

“You...” The man began before catching the woman's glare, “You have five minutes to grab what you need.” The witch ran around her shop grabbing everything and tossing them into a bag much too small for the things going in. The bag itself shouldn’t even have been able to hold some of the items.

“Thank you.” The woman said.

“I’m just making another delivery.”

Five minutes pass and the three of them enter the cab of the truck and drive off into the between.

——

Somewhere in a place between worlds, in a bubble of reality, three people anxiously travel to save a world.

“So this is what's between worlds.” The witch comments in awe at the strangeness.

“And universes.” The woman added excitedly to be the teacher for once.

“Try not to stare too long at it.” The man warned.

“Stare into the abyss and it stares back and all that.” The witch asked sarcastically.

“Yeah, but this is a little more literal. Out there is primordial chaos, and you never know what will show up when observed.” The man explained.

“Oh like quantum entanglement?” The witch asked surprising the man.

“Actually, yeah. That's pretty much it.”

The witch looked deep into the chaos of the between when she sees a shadow pass, “What was that?”

“What did I just say about staring into the chaos?” The man yelled.

“Don’t.” The witch said chagrined.

“Exactly.”

The witch sat quietly, embarrassed when she started to feel warm, “Um…”

The man let out a sigh, “Ask.”

“Why do I feel warm?”

The man looked into the mirror to see the witch changing, “You’re reverting.”

“What?” The witch asked in a panic.

“You’re reverting back to the age you should be. Back to as though you were never taken.” He explained.

The witch looked in the mirror realizing he was right, “I’m getting younger?”

“And?”

“It’s been over 30 years.”

“That means you’ve been gone about a month.”

The witch's jaw dropped, “How?”

The man explained, “Earth moves slower than the rest of the worlds the man looks over at the woman who looked to be in pain as she grabs her stomach, “but I don’t think that will be the case for much longer.”

The witch watched in wonder as her body became younger, and all her scars started to disappear. She began to feel tired but forced herself to stay awake.

“Fuck!” The woman shot up shouting.

The man jumped, “What?”

“I just felt a flare, a bunch of those things just ripped through.” The woman said fear evident in her voice

“That is not good.”

“Can't you stop them?” The witch asked.

The woman paused before shaking her head, “No.”

“But aren't you a god.” The witch pleaded, “Aren't you, our god.”

The woman looked the witch over and hesitantly spoke, “...I think. I might be.”
