《Hero Delivery》chapter 6

On the highway between worlds, a lone truck drives to his destination, along with his sleeping passenger. Then something changed as the driver slows bringing everything to a stop in the void of true chaos.
The woman sitting in the passenger seat, snaps awake groggy and confused looking around only seeing the primordial she asks, “Why did we stop?”
He scrutinized something in the chaos until he spotted something and pointed at something. The woman looked into the dark trying to find what he had seen, only finding a small white wisp drifting.
“What is that?”
The man stayed silent eyes locked onto the wisp as if he blinked it would disappear. He began to pull the vehicle right next to the little light and opened his door.
“I haven't seen this in a long time.” The man smiles sadly. “Hello, little soul. I can see you reaching out to your twin.” The man reached up to the soul, it jumped back recoiling at his hand. The man looked a little hurt by its recoil but still continued to soothe the light, “It's ok. It's ok. Why don't you show me what happened.”
The man held his hand out toward the soul waiting for it to respond. Hesitantly, the little light reached out towards the man sending him a memory.
The man saw a place filled with temples, and martial arts, a world of cultivation. The next memory showed a young boy no older than ten being tormented by an older teen, who had all the trappings of a young master. From the memory, he learned the teen was the son of the sect leader, and the boy being tormented was the first son of a branch family, poised to live a decent life, if not for is crippled meridians, the entire system that gives cultivators their strength. The teen had one day heard of the boy and thought he would be an easy target, for who would protect this trash.

Every day he would “Help” his little cousin exchanging pointers, but the truth was he just enjoyed beating him. Finally growing bored, the young master subtly and slowly began to poison the boy.
“Ah, I see.” The memories ended. It was a table as old as cultivation, a cruel and cutthroat world. The man seemed to sit in silence before he reach out once more asking, “Would you like a ride?”
The little light bobbed up and down in agreement. With its consent, the man guided the soul into the back of his truck.
The woman had watched the entire thing completely confused from her seat, when the man entered the cabin she asked, “What are you doing?”
“Guiding a soul.” The man looked satisfied as he answered.
“That was a soul?” She found herself looking back towards the trailer as though she could see what lay inside.
The man snorted. “You are new.”
“Hey, I've seen them just not like that.” The woman said indignantly.
“Oh.” The man acknowledged her, knowing there was a good chance she had never seen this before, so he explained, “That was a twin soul. They died in such a way that he's reaching out to his twin in another world.” He went on to explain the memory, before also clarifying something he was sure she was wondering. “I’m sure you’re wondering why I’m helping a stray soul.”
The woman nodded.
“First a twin soul isn’t complete causing problems for both people, sometimes its something small, like they have a chronic disease, others they’re paralyzed or in this case, his meridians were crippled. When they reunite the body that receives the souls becomes fully whole, and when that happens it’s like their bodies are making up for lost time, quickly becoming strong. In fact, when one of the two dies their soul is naturally drawn to the other.”

The woman was nodding at the explanation, now confused, “Then what exactly are you doing?”
“Helping it reunite.” He paused for dramatic effect, “This is a natural transmigration.”
“That's real?” The woman yelled in surprise.
“Of course it is. It's just the souls might get lost or not make it in time. I'm just helping it out.”
“Why?”
“Why not?” The man asked with a defiant laugh.
——
Somewhere in the multiverse, on a large rock drifting through space, there is a martial arts sect. In that sect lays a boy alone in bed not breathing finally succumbing to the poison that had been plaguing him for weeks. One last time the boy closed his eyes, only to immediately open them as someone new.
“Uggh” The boy groans placing his hand on his head, with a terrible headache. The boy slowly sat up blinking, realizing he wasn’t in his room, and began to wonder where he was. The boy absently reached down to scratch his itchy leg.
“What?” The boy asked in trepidation and excitement.
The boy moved his leg back and forth, a tear falling from his eye. He hadn't felt his legs in years. To say he was shocked was an understatement, he was completely convinced he died and went to heaven. The boy excitedly began to jump around not even wondering how his body remembered how to walk.
“You're quite energetic for someone who almost died.” The boy turned to see a beautiful woman in the doorway to his room. He didn’t recognize her but immediately knew this was his mother.
“What do you mean?”, and memories suddenly flooded into the boy's head.
——
On a large planet, filled with martial arts, a gate that both never existed, and had always been opened as a truck drove onto a road between worlds. All around the truck the world went from chaos to and order, creating a bubble of reality as it moved. Inside the cabin, a woman and man were talking.
“Why bring the other one to his world? Why not fix the living one?” The woman asked.
“Doesn't work like that. Whether they realize it or not they made a bargain.” The man explained.
“How did they make a deal? They never even spoke.”
“It's a deal between the 2 souls. One heals the other, for helping it in their world.”
“Why would they do that?”
The driver just shrugged. “Don't really know, but I'm sure it's about balance or something. I just call them hitchhikers.”
The woman laughed, “Kinda like me.”
“Almost.”

Directorate: Nationbuilding in Apocalypse
A nation is just a means of survival. Metro Manila fell within 5 months of the first report of cannibalism. Once a hyperurbanized region of 15 million inhabitants, it's been reduced to a dead, greenless shell. Most of the infected had since left to ravage the countryside. The central government was nowhere to be found. Among the survivors who clung to the few gardens and humble plots of arable land left, one of them finds evidence that the slaughter wasn't going to just end with the first wave. Without a nation and a wall of guns, everyone will die. Directorate is an original nationbuilding webnovel that focuses on the gradual rise to power of a select few individuals, and the subsequent unification of the survivors of a devastated Metro Manila.
