《Story of a Killer》Chapter 5 - Tests

As Damon walked behind the two people leading him, he felt his balance was slightly unsteady. Not because of a disability caused by the surgery but purely because of himself being so unfamiliar with his new strength.
Every casual step he took either turned into a hop or the start of a sprint and it was slightly annoying to someone such as Damon who had superb control over his body in the past.
Natasha and Nox heard the commotion and then saw it and couldn't help but laugh at the stumbling teen. Natasha kept teasing him which was slightly grating on Damon for a reason he didn't quite understand.
Luckily, Damon could rely on Nox who gave him a few tips on how to get his new strength under control.
After applying some of the advice, Damon felt it was miles easy to walk but it still posed the question on how much effort it would take on Damon's part to correct other physical actions he would perform in the future.
Nox seemed to see this worry and spoke up. "Don't worry about your lack of control, you'll be undergoing some pretty intense training and it'll soon help you break in your new body. Unluckily for you, however, both I and Nat are gonna be your personal trainers and we aren't exactly gonna go easy on you." When Nox first started speaking, Damon was thankful but as the black-haired man continued to speak Damon's face paled more and more.
'These two seem quite eccentric so I can only guess that their training will also be strange...I'm starting to slightly regret my choices...'
Damon lamented on his soon-to-be situation but deep down he still felt excited about the possibility of getting stronger. When he felt this excitement he felt a little worried as this excitement came from the part of him that wanted to kill. His so-called 'dark side' or whatever you'd call it.
It'd been with him for most of his life but it hadn't really spoken up in a while as he'd pretty much reached the very limits of what a human could reach but ever since he found out about the supernatural world, that thirst for power had come back with even more gusto.
And after the Manifestation, it was followed by other voices, which Damon presumed was his Ghoul and Werewolf instincts, which told him to get stronger for the person he must protect.
Thinking about how he seemed bound to someone, Damon couldn't help but feel a bit bitter. He knew he wouldn't have as much freedom as before after he met his Young Miss/Master and this annoyed him because he still wanted to be able to meet up with Ayano and Erika every once in a while. Speaking of which.
"Nox, when there are holidays in this Academy, can I go and visit Ayano and Erika? In the next few months, they'll probably need me more than ever." Damon's voice had an unusual desperate tone which caught Nox and Natasha off guard.

Natasha spoke up before Nox, the black-haired man still slightly shocked that the tall, carefree youth from before could ever seem desperate.
"Yes, as long as your Young Miss/Master allows it you'll be able to visit them on the holidays." Her voice was oddly serious like she understood what Damon was going through.
Nobody spoke after this. Nox seeming to not care about the silence, Natasha looked like she was in deep thought about something and Damon was currently thinking about the information he'd seen on the paper about his Manifestations.
When they walked for a while longer, they arrived at a futuristic-looking weights room which Damon and the others entered.
Damon was looking around, wondering why they came here and as if reading his mind, Nox spoke up. "We're here to see your current strength, speed, endurance, and recovery rate. It shouldn't take too long."
And like Nox said, it didn't take long at all. He did the necessary strength tests, ran the necessary speed tests and kept running for the necessary endurance tests. The only one Damon wished had a bit more of a warning for was the recovery rate test.
He was slapped around by Nox and Natasha to the point was it was easier to see which part of his body wasn't bruised and which bones weren't broken.
Luckily for Damon however, his recovery rate was by far his best attribute. He healed from almost any injury within minutes, even broken bones. Natasha was fascinated by it and wanted to see how far it could heal but was soon stopped by Nox.
Damon discovered his healing ability had some very positive effects as well. After lifting weights at the very limits of his strength and then resting, the muscle would heal incredibly quickly and be stronger than before. Granted the strength boost was small but it would eventually add up as Natasha and Nox spoke their thoughts on it.
As Damon was thinking about all of these new powers, he couldn't help but think of more than a few questions which he quick fired at Natasha.
"Natasha I have some questions." Was all Damon said before he started listing them off without waiting for a response, his curiosity overwhelming his manners. "Why do I heal so quickly? Why didn't I pass out, or even die, from the shock and pain caused by most of my bones being broken? And why did I feel stronger after each time you guys physically broke me?"
The last part was something Damon had realized along with the quickened muscle growth he had. Every time he got back up from being beaten into the ground, his body felt stronger overall.
Natasha seemed unperturbed by the quick-fire questions and answered in a calm voice. "Those are pretty simple questions to answer. First off, you heal quickly because of the healing factor all Werewolves have." Natasha took in a big breath of air to prepare for the mass of speech she was about to perform.
"Secondly, you have a Ghoul's sturdiness and pain resistance meaning you have the necessary vitality and mental strength to stay alive regardless of the injury. It's quite well fitted for your werewolf healing factor. And finally, this is another werewolf trait. Whenever a werewolf is pushed to the brink of death or given a fatal injury and they can survive and heal back to full, their body learns from its weaknesses and cancels them out while simultaneously enhancing the strengths. Any more questions?" She looked at Damon, waiting for him to ask more questions.

Damon sat there on the floor and thought about what she told him. Before another one hit him.
"You say the ghoul's vitality is really well-fitted for the healing factor, so if that's so, why didn't the vampires try to meld the two species together? And if that's a question that has an answer, are vampires real and alive nowadays?" Damon's questions seemed to catch Natasha and Nox off guard.
Nox and the blonde-haired woman both stood there, thinking for a while before shrugging their shoulders seemingly alright with divulging information to Damon as he's signed a Vow of Silence kind of contract.
Nox spoke up "It's quite easy to answer those questions but right now, I'll answer your second question first: Vampires were real."
"They were real? So they went extinct?" Damon tilted his head to the side in confusion.
"They went extinct in a way but none of them died." Natasha spoke up this time and carried on before Damon could fire the obvious question at her "There once a myriad of races on Earth. Vampires, Dragons, Angels, you name it, it was on Earth." Natasha spoke with wonder in her eyes before her face turned dark.
"All until one dreadful day all the Manifest Clans remember; the Bestowal. Or better known as The Great Removal. All the races were turned into Humans by a twisted God who was passing by." Natasha seemed angry for a second before she seemed sad and then finally landed on indifferent.
Damon was quite shocked by what he was hearing.
'Not all this can be true, right? Gods exist?'
Natasha saw the suspicion on Damon's face but ignored it as she carried on with her story. "But they were left with a single gift; Manifestation. They were Human, but they were the first Humans who Manifested. Obviously, they Manifested their previous race's abilities and after a few dissections to see what had changed they found the crystal all us Manifesters have."
Natasha walked over to a bench in the room and sat down on it was her chin resting on her hands which were being propped up by her knees. "They experimented with it a lot and discovered it could be implanted in a non-Manifested Human and that Human would Manifest a random races abilities. A lot of the stuff that happened after that included wars between the races for Manifest Technology, killing a lot of the original species Manifested Humans. This all happened Hundreds of years ago, however, so don't worry about that."
Nox spoke up at this moment. "Yeah, most of the clans now act as International Businesses and whatnot, not really fighting but there's a fierce cold war going on in the background. That's why we train killers, to help fund certain groups. We're kinda like a mercenary production factory." Nox laughed a little at what he said at the end.
Damon just sat there, sorting through the information he'd just gained. It was slightly mind-numbing.
'Well, I guess it makes sense that they all existed at one point because where else would the stories about them come from? But it's still a bit much to take in.'
Damon suddenly stood up, an obvious fire lit in his eyes. As soon as he thought about all of what he knew now, Damon's instinct that thirsted for power went into overdrive. "Who do I have to protect then? I'm guessing it's a Manifested Vampire but I'd like to know specifics on my new boss."
Natasha nodded her head and pulled a stack of paper out of nowhere and tossed it toward Damon.
Damon caught the magically appearing paper but didn't bother to ask about how it appeared; he'd eventually find out. He looked at the information and flipped through the pile of papers the thickness of a book.
"You'll have to learn all of that" Natasha pointed at the stack of papers in Damon's hands "You'll effectively be her bodyguard, her butler, her friend, her brother and if she needs it, her lover."
Damon's eyes squinted into a glare when he heard the last part but he let the glare go and let out a sigh.
'They pretty much have me by the balls, so there's not much I can do. I'll just have to make the best of it, so let's see what my new boss looks like--'
Damon stopped on a page in the middle with information about his new Young Miss' appearance. A beauty, who he knew from the information to the side of the picture, who was 6ft tall and had an incredibly full figure with curves in all the right places was on the page in front of him.
Her cold face didn't take away from her charm, instead, it added to it and along with her crimson red eyes and golden blonde hair it made her seem like the poster child for a Vampire.
Damon couldn't help but swallow some saliva in his mouth looking at her slightly sharp features which seemed oddly soft despite their obvious sharpness. If Damon could compare it to anything, he'd have to compare her to Mari Kurihara Prison School just with blonde hair and red eyes.
He also discovered some...complicated information.
Name: Mika Tepes
Title: The Third Princess of the Vampire Clan

'Oh, this is either gonna be fun or its gonna be mentally, physically and emotionally crippling.'

Reincarnated as a Warlock with zero skill
My previous life was just as boring as yours. I was a marketing manager for a flooring company. The biggest challenge? Would the latest colour be called "Grey Oak" or "Oak Grey". Then, tragedy. I was struck down in the prime of my life by a negligent delivery driver and a pallet of laminate flooring - which is significantly heavier than you think. So there I was, smeared on the floor, absorbed in my own self pity. Where would I go? Heaven? Hell. Did I care? Apparently that was not what fate had in store for me. Reborn in a world of dragons and fantasy, I became a Warlock. A pretty darn important one too. The problem, I had little to no affinity to magic and I spent most of my time doing my best to avoid danger. Danger however, would not avoid me. So, with my new life as an amazing Warlock you'd think it would be easy street right? Wrong. Forces gather to move against the Kingdom I am sworn to protect and, whilst my inward allegiance is to whomever is the victor, outwardly I must lead the resistance against the invaders. With my skilled companions Asha - a mage that can actually do magic and Torg - a swordsman sworn to protect me, I can only hope that they distract the enemy long enough for me to run away.
