《True Void Arts. (old version)》Chapter 8. Overcoming the formation.

Naath stepped forward with calm even steps, once he came into contact Naath didn't have any serious adverse reaction. Nothing happened until he was already 8 steps into the formation. However once Naath took that step the world around him changed completely. In Naath’s eyes, he was no longer on a stage in the middle of a test exam, for some reason his eyes were suddenly closed as well. Naath opened his eyes and woke up in his bed back on earth. Naath’s pupils dilated slightly and he said “shit, was that all a weird dream, or is this the formation?”
Naath got up from the bed on earth and began to look around, everything was exactly the same. Naath shook his head and tried to use his true void arts to cultivate in the way he had figured out on earth. However, when Naath tried to circulate them he failed, in fact he couldn't even sense any energy to use at all. Naath’s pupils shrank to the point of being like needles. He thought to himself ‘no. I refuse to accept that I cannot use my true void arts! There must be a way!’ From here on in this space, Naath began to study and immerse himself in information constantly trying to find out how to cultivate once more.
In Naath’s eyes, several years had passed and he could not find any information related to cultivation whatsoever, he slowly grew older and older. Outside the formation in the eyes of the crowd, merely 10 minutes had passed and they saw Naath making small steps forward still. All of the examiners were stunned watching this, at this rate Naath would pass through the formation in only half an hour more. This would break the current all-time record for passing the fear formation of 57 minutes. Everyone was watching with anticipation as Naath slowly walked from one side of the formation to the other.
Inside the formation, Naath had grown old and to him,65 years had come and gone, he could still not find any means or methods of cultivation no matter how hard he dug. Finally, in his old world, Naath let out a sigh and said “so be it, there may not be any cultivation here. However I refuse to give up no matter what!” With that inside the formation, Naath began to attempt to circulate his true void arts at full strength. When it didn't work Naath became agitated and used more effort and force to circulate them. He became stubborn and seemed almost insane in the amount of effort he put forward. The more it refused to circulate and work the more persistent Naath became.

His body inside the formation started to pull in energy madly, true void energy began to be produced at a ludicrous speed. Every couple of minutes a new true void membrane was finished Inside of Naath’s body. To Naath another year had passed back on earth, however in actuality, only 10 more minutes had passed. Suddenly Naath’s aura changed completely, the amount of energy his body started to draw in increased by over 10 times. His physical body had completed the second stage of the true void arts.
He had condensed all 127 true void membranes and completed the special circuit inside of his body. His newly linked true void membranes rapidly took some of the energy in Naath’s body and started to transform it into true void energy. Soon all of the energy in his body was converted and stored inside of his 127 true void membranes. All the while inside of Naath’s vision he was still circulating his true void arts madly, as energy began to be pulled in from his surroundings once more.
As this happened the energy was not guided and pulled into Naath’s bones but directly into his true void membranes. After that it compressed over and over again hundreds of times in moments. It became concentrated true void energy, and after its formation was completed it slowly seeped out of Naath’s body through the 127 points. After leaving the true void membranes the energy settled on top of Naath’s skin and stayed in place forming spheres with the diameter of an inch. All of the energy a half-inch around these spheres and all energy that passed into them was devoured.
It was as if Naath’s true void membranes were starving beasts, using these spheres of true void energy as a medium, they began to crazily devour all the energy they could reach. Using this energy, they began to strengthen and nourish themselves allowing excess true void energy to flow through Naath’s entire body and circulate around the newly formed circuit created by the 127 true void membranes. Soon the spheres started to grow very, very slowly. At the rate they were going it would take several weeks to gain even a single inch more of diameter.
However, as they grew, they drew in more and more energy, even the most seemingly insignificant growth had incredible effects. It allowed the true void energy to become even more compressed, the range of absorption slowly grew outwards. All of the energy in the area crazily surged towards Naath who was still seeing his life on earth and madly attempting to circulate his true void arts. After 10 more minutes in real-time, Naath’s true void membranes began to even absorb the energy from the formation. In only a couple of minutes, the formation grew weak and showed signs of collapse. This alarmed all of the spectators, they had never heard of let alone seen someone collapse the formation in this test.

Due to the formations weakening Naath inside of this vision finally sensed a strand of energy and a sign that his true void arts were circulating. This drove him into an even more frenzied state of circulation. Just like this in only a minute the formation had been sucked dry of its energy and collapsed. Naath snapped out of his nightmare and realized where he was immediately. His true void arts stopped circulating and he looked around slightly bewildered. He no longer saw the glowing symbols on the floor indicating the boundaries of the formation
Naath took a moment to gather himself and figure out what was real and what was not. After sorting everything out Naath looked to senior Zhen and asked “senior, have I passed?” Naath was genuinely confused. He had no idea where the formation had gone and was worried that its disappearance meant that he had failed to overcome his fears and so the formation dispersed to save his mental state. All of the spectators' jaws almost hit the floor when they heard this question. They all thought ‘He doesn't even know it was him who collapsed it?!’ Senior Zhen took a moment to curb his sense of disbelief.
After that he said, “Indeed young man, Naath was it? You have passed with flying colors, in fact, I dare say this record of yours may never be broken!” Naath let out a relieved breath and then stood behind senior Zhen once more. Now Naath simply had to observe the results of others and wait for the third stage of the exams. However, what happened next was beyond everyone's expectations. Senior Zhen spoke up saying “Also everyone due to the fact that the formation was destroyed by young Naath here we will be automatically passing everyone still in line!”
The spectators were flabbergasted, this was an unprecedented result. Never had anyone been allowed to simply skip a stage of the exam! Everyone in the line looked at Naath and felt deeply thankful for this result. Some of them made a mental note to try and form a good relationship with Naath and seek him out later to thank him. Naath was just as stunned as the rest of them were and had no idea until now that he had actually broken the formation. Senior zhu continued “however, the final stage of the exam I'm afraid cannot be watched, even though it is simply the lowest grade single bronze star manual it is still a secret of the sect. Its use lies not in its combat power, but in the ability to test a person's comprehension ability.
This skill was made overly complicated and hard to learn and discern on purpose, that way we can test one's comprehension ability. So unfortunately we cannot have any spectators as this combat art is a secret of the sect and we cannot allow outsiders to learn it. Those who fail the comprehension test will have the information about the art wiped from these memories by me personally. I will warn you only once not to struggle when I try to remove them otherwise you will become an idiot and a cripple. You won't even be able to feed yourself or use the bathroom alone! Now then if everyone who passed would follow me to the area where the third part of the exam will be held.”

Blood & Noodles
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] As they always have, humanity hunts the gods roaming the world, craving the supernatural power that flows within their veins. Even a drop is zealously guarded, passed from master to student through the ages. It is with this stolen power that the Blooded - those with divine blood coursing through them - grasp beyond mortality and achieve prestige, power, and greatness. Yet, for every fraction of power gained, thousands perish, slain by the gods' supernatural prowess. But everything is beginning to change. Eight years ago, for the first time in human memory, a god was felled. Part-time chef and full-time nuisance Orvi wants nothing to do with gods. Living in a derelict city, his only concerns are ensuring his adopted family's restaurant is prosperous and how to best beat the neighbourhood boys in a fight. If he's lucky, he might even snag a date with the farmer's daughter at the market. But even though he cares nothing for the gods or their blood, the world won't leave him alone forever. Because to reach godhood, one must first leave their humanity behind. *** The first arc of Blood & Noodles follows the adolescent Orvi as he attempts to navigate his rapidly changing home and - by his own definition - protect his family. The story is told almost entirely in the first-person, from the perspective of a teenager who isn't always the sharpest tool in the shed. There are tragic elements, especially in the current arc. It's character-focused and driven, though the protagonist's shenanigans are backdropped by a world operating independently from him. Orvi's a generally light-hearted character, and though the story veers into darker territory, I also want it to be able to make readers smile. Action sequences, despite the fantastical elements, are meant to be grounded and clearly-conveyed; Orvi is a brawler, not a warrior. I'm trying to write a story that's enjoyable to read and flows nicely, mainly because it's more fun to write. I'm also trying to improve my writing, so any feedback, whether positive or negative, is welcome!
