《Last Grace: The Apex of Another World》Chapter 20 - Village

Lucifer felt as if he was getting carried away, he cracked open his eyelids gently, he speedily adjusted to the change in environment.
The first thing that he spotted was huts that were cheaply constructed, except one in the center that looked much more stable.
"So there was civilization all the way out here." Lucifer murmured under his breath, admiring the buildings. Even if they were unstable, they were a hell of a lot better than whatever the heck he tried to build as Lucifers shelter earlier.
His gaze went around the whole village, after a few moments of looking around Lucifer found something that surprised the hell out of him. It was something that he was equally astounded to see as he was pleased.
Goblins, in all shapes, small and stubby. They were coming out of the hut that was larger when you compare it to the other ones. They carried short spears, with stone heads.
They were heading towards him, weapons in hand. He couldn't do much, his body was much too heavy.
All that he had to do was play it cool and everything would turn out alright. It was not like he would lose to the goblins, right?
"Can you understand me?" Lucifer called out to them. Hoping for a positive response.
In return for his eager response, all he got was some gibberish spoken breathlessly.
"*&@^@*!!!" The one that tried to converse with Lucifer had a weird looking headdress, his garments were also somewhat florid, his sarong was adorned with a simple pattern. In Lucifers opinion that goblin had to be important.
Compared to the rest, they were rats, all before a disease. Merely underlings, no need for Lucifer to waste any attention on them.
They all had no shoes or boots to speak of. Neither did he, still he saw it as weird as they had access to so many resources.

As they would think he was stupid, Lucifer reacted quickly. He valued the opinions of his lessers, and taking a dirt nap didn't help one bit.
Lucifer sought to get up, only he felt that he his hands were tied, quite literally.
He spat distastefully. They were not speaking any language that he knew. Which he anticipated, still it left a bad taste in Lucifers mouth for him to admit that he did not understand their language.
Lucifer focused on whatever they were saying in the hope that he acquired an understanding of their language.
They did not speak much, and he had no references for the words. They could be insulting him, or praising him - which seemed very unlikely.
He squirmed, finally getting to his knees. His arms were still stuck in place.
They were still speaking. Lucifer could only shake his head. His attention remained focused on learning the language, and finding out how, and if they defeated the hare.
Frustrated, and disturbed Lucifer kept on studying them.
The green goblin folk examined him back, circling around, seeing something that Lucifer could not see himself.
They seemed happy, more so the chieftain than the goblins beside him. While they were unsightly, they were humanoids, and some trust was able to be salvaged from the recesses of his soul just for that.
What was their prerogative to do so? He was no animal. he was... he was a fucking mortal.
The group of goblins stopped moving when they had noticed Lucifers anger. How could they not when his eyebrows were veered, and his eyes glowed.
They were fearful, not knowing what was going on.
Although, Lucifer continued to be on the up about it. He was getting respect from them. He was getting their fear.
He was going to enjoy showing them their place.

Suddenly one of them smashed the head of the spear into his face and he was knocked to the ground.
He was the rightful owner of fear, he would make them kneel. Why would they dare strike him down, they should fear him.
He lacked what made him scary. His horns, his wings, his tail, his skin that was...
It still was flawlessly pale.
The goblins beside the chieftain encouraged the goblin that struck him down.
"No fair, not fair at all!" Lucifer cried.
He staggered in shock after the goblin slammed the blunt end of the spear into his gut. Lucifer retched out blood. A feeling of unease rising up in his abdomen.
If this continued on he was going to die.
He had to turn the situation on its head, someway - today this goblin fucker was going to become dog shit!
Lucifer brought his attention to the second coming of stupidity driving another strike into his stomach.
Damn! Why were they treating him like this? Lucifer was more than upset, he was angry!
He activated rage and pulled apart the bindings - in an attempt to tear the green man limb from limb Lucifer roared.
Lucifers previous Skill: [Shout] has evolved into the skill [Roar].
Without any attention on his screen, Lucifer swayed to his feet,
he was going to sock him! The green man was not lacking in swiftness, nor did the bystanders of the tribe remain bystanders.
They all lunged forth with their stone spears and pecked at him. Piercing his flesh, this riled him up even further. Lucifer swore that his roars were nearly as loud as the blur of notifications that were appearing. What was going to happen to his plan if he did not get himself out of this pathetic situation, he knew, it would come to pass, unsuccessful and he would be a corpse rotting beneath the earth.
Lucifer grabbed the points of the spears where he would bleed from and drew a pair of goblins head together in a rage induced fervor. His skin being pierced by the chieftain that seemed no longer passive about the passing ordeal struck and drew blood.
Too bad this would be their loss! His scream drew to a close as Lucifer drew a breath - smashing the small skulls of the two goblins with a powerful strike to their forehead causing them to drop their weapons. As they endured in a dizzy, and chaotic state Lucifer punched the chieftain in the face.
Then he struck the one that started this whole situation in the nards before launching and planting a critical blow to the goblin's face with a roundhouse kick.
Lucifer felt something cold penetrate his back. Keen... like a spearhead, or, an arrow. His victory was supposed to be assured.
Now his life was an inch away from being stolen by the reaper.
He could only answer with silence, Lucifer was vulnerable.
And he was the next candidate on the planet to get killed.

His elaborate clothing has been torn to ribbons, yet his skin remains unblemished. His face is peaceful, and tucked into the hand lying across his chest can be seen a solitary playing card. He is a Ludum Haeres. The last remnant of a Summoner. Numbered among those few capable of changing their destinies. The unseen rulers of the world known as Vesperia, and one of the most powerful creatures in existence. The woman knows none of this. And so, she picks up the card... This is my third novel on Royal Road, the first being "Beyond the Horizon's Eye", and the second being "The Dawnfire Archives". This story is something of a test in a new genre, that of CardLIT. We'll see how well it succeeds as the story continues. It takes place in a different setting than my other tales, with an entirely new cast of characters. It does, however, contain several ties between the stories. Average post between 1000 - 3000 words.
