《Devil of the Heavens》Prologue#

*BOOM*
"Ha..........Ha............Ha.....not y-yet....Ha....Ha..."
It was hell. Outright destruction of a planet was no easy feat. Dead men everywhere splattered on the ground. One could bathe in this river of blood. Among the pile of dead bodies, there was one who was barely alive.
He stood up with the little strength left in him. Up close, you could see his armor half broken and bruises all over his body. But there was light in his eyes. He looked as if his resolution was absolute. He knelt on the ground. He tried to gather all the energy left in him.
His sword was struck to the ground. It was a soul sword. A sword forged by giving up one's soul. The strength of the sword depended on the strength of the soul that was used in its making. But there was a catch. The sword could only be used by one person. Once the wielder died, it would wither away. This sword was forged by a renowned blacksmith, which made it even more deadlier in terms of quality and strength. This sword was the "Blood Striker".
After picking his weapon up the ground he flew back to where this all had begun.
*Swoosh*
A light could be seen in the sky. It was edging towards a person on the ground. He was an old man with a rigid expression on his face. He was a "mage". He stroked his white beard as he wasn't one bit surprised. Suddenly, the old man felt something which stuck his heart in fear. The old man experienced something which he never had, he started to shiver. It was killing intent from someone who was watching him from the sky. He noticed in the red sky there was something more frightening than what he had seen in his entire life. "Impossible! How could he reach such a level!" the old man spoke to himself. He felt a sudden pressure across his body. The old man was confident that he could kill him but that was before his confidence had shattered like glass.

*Swoosh*
He descended on the ground.
The air around the old man started resonating. High pressure waves collided against him as he barely kept his guard. The person looked at him with cold blooded eyes. Suddenly a black light emitted from his sword as it enveloped him.
"Sura!!!!!" he shouted. All the air around him began to rush towards him with him as the center. It was like an air sink. The dark light engulfing around him began to expand. Old man was confused. He had never seen anything this bizarre. He knew this was a charging technique so he decided to attack him with all his might. The old mans's intuition told him something was wrong. Nevertheless he decided to charge forward to attack. When the old man was almost near him, a high pressure wave traveled towards him. The old man decided to stay put.
"Divine Earth Shield!" the old man shouted.
A brown colored dome appeared over him. The quality of the skill was outstanding. Any average supreme expert wouldn't even be able to make a crack on the dome.
As the wave hit his shield, it wasn't one bit affected. But the old man's face changed to deathly pale white. He thought he could defend against the attack, but he was wrong as it had instead passed through him. As the wave swept through him, his internal organs were crushed and his soul energy started to leak out of his body. His soul was leaving his body. His death was certain.
"S-S-Soul shock!!!" the old man exclaimed.
He was totally caught of guard. The attack was an after effect of the technique Sura. It was a charging technique which could only be used by a very few of the highest leveled experts who could be counted by hand. It would sometimes radiate a soul shock which was something like a bizarre wave which could pass through absolutely anything. The technique could only be used once as it required all of one's energy. The main reason why this person had used this technique was because after charging up it could be combined with an attacking technique which was like the next step.

The old man stood where he had decided to stay put. He couldn't move a muscle let alone a finger.
In this sea of the dead, there stood two people. One a warrior, another an old mage. A warrior who wanted revenge and a mage who stood on the ground helplessly thinking that he had wronged the wrong person. Both in their final moments.
As the warrior charged towards the mage, he shouted "Asuraaa!!!!!!". His final ultimate attacking technique. This would completely use up one's soul to produce an extremely powerful strike. It would last only five seconds.
5........4...........3..........
*Swoosh*
The warrior jumped of the ground as he came to be just above the mage. He knew this would be his final moments. For him and the person below him. All the memories of his past flashed in his mind. He remembered all the regrets he had in life as he knew he had let down a lot people who were precious to him. They were his responsibility. But if he failed in killing the mage, this regret would haunt him in his afterlife.
The old man knew he was going to die. After witnessing the ferocity of the attack he almost died of a heart attack. Fear crept into his soul.
2..............
The sword on the warrior's hand moved up as he rushed towards the old man to slash him.
The old man didn't have the courage to face death with his eyes open.
He closed his eyes.
1..........................................
*Slash*
The sword slashed into mage's shoulder. The mage let out a loud scream. His body was cut diagonally. His bones were crushed due to the pressure of the slash. It was as if the body had exploded. All that remained was a pool of blood.
"Ha.......ha........Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha" the warrior was laughing. Finally he had got his revenge and had put an end to his misery. A bitter end. He could see the dead mage's skull on the ground. He took his sword and struck the skull against the ground.
His consciousness was fading away. "So t-this is the end..." he said to himself.
"Zehahahahahahhahaha...ha.....ha " as started laughing, tears rolled from his eyes. He had got his revenge. This was his final goal. He had achieved it.
His vision started to blur."F-Finally.............Sis I'm coming to you" said the warrior as his mind blanked out.
A fight between a warrior and mage had caused widespread destruction. Hundreds of thousands caught in this fight died a miserable death. The cause of all this was a single warrior.
And now, he had died.

Paladin
When the first derelict alien spacecraft fell to Earth, humanity took what was found in it and propelled themselves to new heights. In their new Golden Age, humanity developed technology that they had only dreamed about. The following years saw hundreds more ships crash into the planet, spurring even greater technological leaps. An unassuming spacecraft, one of the dozens that fell yearly, descended on Siberia in 2021. The world took no particular notice of it. However, this one contained something beyond the miraculous technology that had made humans so prosperous. Three years later, in a top-secret underground facility in eastern Colorado, the automated construction of an army of Paladin Mobile Infantry Suits was underway. With this new, state-of-the-art weaponry, the military would turn the tide against the alien incursion that was consuming the planet. Humanity fell before that could happen. Sam was an engineer responsible for overseeing the facility. Now alone, he lives in utter boredom and near insanity, his only company the base’s pseudo AI and an army of empty Paladins. With the world gone to hell around him, and the things that caused it still living above, he decides that he is much better off staying exactly where he is. Unfortunately for him, that is no longer an option. This is the first novel I've written. The first fifteen or so chapters are going to be a little slower. I want there to be time to get to know the characters before they start blowing stuff up. Also, though the MC will be strong relative to the world, he won't be OP, and won't win every fight. Not every fight will be physical either. Currently, I'm aiming for something like 5 fairly short chapters a week, after the introduction part is done, but we'll see how that goes. Thanks for reading, and please let me know if I've made mistakes!
