Chapter 66: Shiro and Idmon
The battle between Idmon and the White Dragon Shiro was intense.
It's a good thing I had brought a shield along with my spear because Shiro's claw attacks are too much.
It's fast and almost undodgeable. And from the force that I feel every time I dodge, I think it's enough to cut me in half.
Clank! Clink!
I had this shield enchanted to weaken the attacks it receives, and also I have a enveloping it.
It should damage any living things it touches, but it does not affect the dragon claws.
It must be a racial trait or natural resistance.
Idmon: "(t)Argh!"
A tail whip from the white dragon threw me far away from where I was standing and slammed me on the wall.
!
A breath attack made from pure magic energy came from Shiro while I was still regaining my composure.
I had no time to dodge, so I only had one choice.
!
A portal from the void opened on the floor in front of me. Thousands of bones from goblins and monsters came out and formed a wall.
It blocked some of the , but not all. Fortunately, it was enough for me to get out of the way and towards Shiro.
Shiro: "(t)Fool! What do you aim to achieve with your tiny weapon?"
Good. The dragon underestimates my Void Spear.
If I got close enough and hit her at a vital point, it would be enough to weaken her and, ultimately, win the duel.
She was preparing another while I was still closing in.
Idmon: "(t)I won't let you!"
!
!
I created another portal from the void and released a massive amount of bones formed into a fist.
It hit Shiro straight in the mouth, and her aim was off.
The hit the ceiling of the cave instead, and some rocks fell on her.
Shiro: "(t) Damn!"
Now's my chance!
I charged up my Void Lance with colossal amounts of negative energies and threw it at Shiro.
!
Shiro: "(t) Don't underestimate me!"
With a flap of her wings, it sent shockwaves to all directions.
She turned to face me and received my Void Lance with her claws.
Boom!
It exploded with the force of the negative energies. At least its claws should be destroyed from that attack.
The Void Lance flew some distance away after the collision, and what I saw next stunned me.
Shiro: "(t) Was that supposed to burn me, dark one?"
Her claws were indeed damaged, but only slightly. It was still smoking, though, but you can see it clearly that the damage was not enough.
Shiro: "(t) Your technique is not bad, but you can't hurt me with that amount of power."
ROAR!
Another roar followed by a tail whip sent me flying again. This time, Shiro didn't let me hit the wall.
The white dragon followed my flight and knocked me down with her claws.
Idmon: "(t) Oh. It fell off."
After I fell to the ground, my skeleton arm broke and detached from my body. It was the arm that held the shield.
With one arm and a battered body, how could I win against this dragon?
Lizardman King: "(t) You should give up now, and we'll let you go on your way."
Idmon: "(t) After I took all that? Nah, I don't think so. I came here to get some dragons, and I will come out with them."
Lizardman King: "(t) Then, let's continue."
Without waiting for another second, Shiro slammed me with another tail whip.
The follow up was coming, I know it.
Can I block it with my shield? Or should I surrender?
I contemplated while I was flying in the air because of the tail whip.
Lina: "No! Lord Idmon!"
Lina and Bon tried to rush in and help me, but the brown Lizardman and the Lizardman Elder stopped them.
Elder Gat: "If you help him now, he will fail the test. You might survive now, but can you risk angering the Lizardman King?"
The two were visibly frustrated, but they can't argue that the Lizardman King is stronger than them.
The Searcher: "Calm down, Bon, and Lina. Lord Idmon won't go down that easily."
Bon: "Right, if he's that confident, then we don't need to worry."
Lina: "What are you saying! If he dies here, then he's lost forever!
Bon: "Do you trust, Lord Idmon?"
Lina: "I-I do, but!"
Bon: "Then stay quiet and watch how he turns the impossible into possible."
Lina: "Alright..."
She was still worried, but she agreed to stay quiet for now.
Meanwhile, Idmon hit the wall now, and the was about to fire.
Idmon: "(t) Damn it!"
Here comes the .
It was fast and so bright, I thought it would've blinded me if I had eyes.
I need to think fast. No, there's no time for thinking. I only have one way to get out of this.
Use all my energies to form a shield to block it.
I put my hand in front of me and focused all my energies.
Good thing, I had a couple of negative energy crystals with me, so I was able to replenish some of the lost energies.
Shiro: "(t) Not enough!"
She kept blasting her a lot longer than the first one.
My is going to break any second now.
Idmon: "(t) Come on! Not yet! I need more!"
I tried squeezing all the energies I have left to reinforce the , but it wasn't enough.
Just when I was about to surrender, a voice spoke to me.
???: "(t)Need a hand, boy?"
A surge of energies came from inside me and restored me into a perfect state.
Full negative energy restoration. Amazing.
This voice must be the gift of the Third Skeleton King Arit. A Void Orb that can restore my energies.
Shiro ran out of magic to keep shooting his and was shocked to see me standing, and restored even!
Shiro: "(t)What magic did you use? That's not possible!"
I didn't waste any time and launched my counter-attack.
With the massive amounts of energy that I have, I was able to copy the of Shiro and blast her with my negative energy version of it.
Shiro: "(t)Gah!"
The blast was strong enough to knock her down and left the part of her body that got hit rotten and decayed.
Shiro: "(t)I-I surrender."
Lizardman King: "(t)That's it! This match is over."
The Lizardman King approached me and gave me a vial of blood.
Lizardman King: "(t) You have passed the test, and this is your reward."
Idmon: "(t) Blood?"
Lizardman King: "(t) It's the blood of an Ancient Dragon. It doesn't exactly make you a Dragonkin, but it's a step towards it."
Idmon: "(t) Dragonkin, huh?"
The Searcher approached me once he saw the vial.

The Searcher: "OH! It's that the legendary blood of an Ancient Dragon!?"
Idmon: "(t) The Lizardman King said so."
The Searcher: "It is said that it does not only grant dragon powers, but it also heals any disease or wounds."
Idmon: "(t) I see, that's good to know. Fortunately, no one in our army can be sick."
The Searcher: "That's right. The undead has disease immunity."
Lizardman King: "(t) Drink it, Idmon. And become the leader that you are destined to be."
I was about to drink the vial when I heard the painful cries of the white dragon.
Shiro was dying.
Shiro: "(t) Ah, these damn Void energies, they're like black flames that consume anything living."
Roar!
She was roaring, but after a few more seconds, more painful cries come out from her.
Shiro: "(t) What are you looking at, bones? You won. Drink that vial and become the new leader of the dragons."
I...
Idmon: "(t) No."
I threw the vial straight into the wounds of Shiro.
Lizardman King: "No! That's the only one left by the mage!"
The wounds of Shiro was healing quickly, and she was able to stand up again.
Shiro: "(t)You, fool! You wasted your chance at grabbing your destiny! You failed the prophecy!"
That's what I get for saving here? Sheesh.
Idmon: "(t)I do not care about this prophecy. All I want is more allies to help defend my people. I passed the test, and I need the dragons now."
Lizardman King: "(t) That is not was supposed to happen! We have been protecting that vial for centuries!"
The Elder spoke up.
Elder Gat: "The prophecy is complete. He has not failed the test. It's his decision on what to do with the Ancient Dragon's blood."
What?
Lizardman King: "(t) What!?"
Elder Gat: "Lord Idmon has proven a wise and powerful leader. He is also not blinded by greed or ambition for power. He is the most suitable candidate to lead the dragons."
Lizardman King: "How can you say that? Is this what the mage would have wanted!?"
He stopped using
The Lizardman King was furious, and the ground was shaking just from his shouting.
Elder Gat: "Have you forgotten why the mage fought the war in the first place? It is to protect the freedom of the dragons."
Lizardman King's anger started to disappear as he thought more about it.
Elder Gat: "A leader that is willing to exchange the promise of power to save a dragon's life, can be trusted to protect their freedom."
Lizardman King: "I see. You are right."
He sat down on his throne again, and calmly stated the following.
Lizardman King: "Lord Idmon has passed the test. I now pass the responsibility of taking care of the dragons to him."
Strange Woman: "Well, if that's the case, you are my new husband, then."
What?
Idmon: "(t) Who're you!?"
A mysterious white-haired woman appeared from nowhere, saying that I'm her husband.
A beautiful woman for sure, and she has white brows and white eyes too.
Strange Woman: "It's me, Shiro."
What!?
Idmon: "(t) Wait, wait. Isn't Shiro a dragon? By the way, where is she?"
Shiro: "Idiot. The blood of the Ancient Dragons gave me some of their power. is one of them. I can speak normally now I've taken the form of a human."
Isn't she like a Dragonkin now?
Idmon: "(t) I see. But what's that got to do with you and me being lovers?"
Lina: "Yeah! I don't approve of this!"
Bon: "Quiet, you!"
Bon dragged Lina away. The Lizardman King and the Elder were talking about something too.
Shiro: "There's nothing we can do. If you are to lead the Dragons, you have to be related to us in some way. You didn't drink the dragon blood, so marriage is our only resort."
Idmon: "(t)I-is that so?"
I guess I can't avoid it. Having a mighty dragon as my advisor and commander is fantastic, but I'm not so sure about marrying one.
Shiro: "Look, we don't have to love each other and all that. We just need you to be related to dragons."
Idmon: "(t) Okay, okay. What do I need to do?"
Shiro: "Bite me and suck my blood."
Idmon: "(t) What!?"
Shiro: "If you don't do that, the dragons won't recognize you as one of their own and will not follow your orders. That means they only follow me and can betray you anytime."
That's bad. I can't have a group of dragons in my army suddenly rampaging and getting out of control.
I guess there's no choice.
Bite. Slurp.
Shiro: "Ah!"
Stop making noises while I'm sucking!
It's also weird that I can suck her blood. It feels like sucking magical energies from a living person.
Idmon: "(t) I-Is this enough?"
Shiro: "Hmm. Yes."
After a few seconds, Lina finally escaped Bon and had come back.
Lina: "Oi, what happened? Why is Shiro red when she's supposed to be white!?"
Shiro did have flushed cheeks. Is she sick from losing blood?
I don't know why, but Lina was angry that day and didn't let me go until she finished lecturing me about love and marriage.
Once I told her it was just a ceremony to ensure the loyalty of the dragons, she became quiet and accepted it.
Shiro: "It's official then. You are now the new Dragon King with me, Shiro as your queen."
Idmon: "(t) I'm sure I am not worthy of the title yet, but I will do my best to ensure that the dragons prosper."
We went back to the lake to announce the news.
Dragon: "All hail the new, King!"
Roar! Roar! ROAR!
In the end, I did get the dragons. I sure hope that the original Dragon King and the Ancient Dragons are all dead as they say. I wouldn't know what to do if they came back to take their rightful place.
Although, the Lizardmen stayed in the cave since that is their ancestral home.
They also refused any alliances I proposed to them, but they were kind enough to teach us how to make fish farms to feed the Dragons.
I got a new title when I looked at my stats with
Dragon Blood - Drank the blood of a dragon and successfully combined it with the energies in your body. Grants .
Dragonskin - Gives the caster the protective properties of a dragon's skin. (High Def and resistance to most elements especially Fire Element.)
It's only one skill, but it's always useful to have another defensive tool that I can use in battle.
Now, off to the battlefield! I hope Mel and the others are okay.

Tim the Engineer
Summoned against his will to a world of swords and magic, an engineering student struggles to find a way home under the shadow of a world devouring threat. ***************************** Updates: 5/13/19: Revisions to several chapters for clarity, grammar, and style. 4/29/19: A short side story and artwork has been added to the blog. 4/8/19: A Side Story has been updated on my new blog (every writer is required to have one). https://talesfromliahar.wordpress.com/ ***************************** “The summoning scenarios are broken down into groups of ten.” Emi Ito stated. “Don’t, don’t you dare say another word.” Muttered Genzo Uchida. His eyes had turned bloodshot and his hands shook with rage. “The first thirty…” “Shut up!” Genzo bellowed “How dare you help these disrespectful gaijin?” Flecks of spit and madness flew from his face, his fist raised ready to strike. But Emi did not flinch, instead she was about ready to continue when Yuma Takeuchi interrupted her. “Uchida, please,” her sweet sounding words could melt ice. “I think we will have a better chance of getting home if we all work together.” When she glanced up with her sleepy looking eyes at Genzo Uchida he deflated visibly. “Were not getting home.” Uchida said coolly. “Group summoning, large, that puts us in the 60 series. No one came to greet us after five minutes of arrival. That leaves scenarios 68 and 69. In scenario 68 there is something that binds the large group together; they are all classmates or a single family. But thanks to the gaijin” he spit out the word “I think we are scenario 69 with no way home.” Ikko Inoue’s eyes went wide, while Katsukno and Hayata started muttering to themselves. Tim took on a serious look and rubbed his scruffy chin. Emi maintained her stoic expression while trying to find something to refute. McKenzie glanced at Randall and giggled. Randall took the prompting of his teammate and followed up by approaching Genzo. “Uh, so we are in a sixty-nine?” “Yes.” Replied Genzo with the seriousness of someone who’s life was about to end. McKenzie covered her mouth and snickered. “You and me, were stuck in a sixty-nine situation?” Randall pushed with a grin. “Yes, we are all stuck in a sixty-nine scenario together!” Genzo retorted in anger. McKenzie fell on her butt laughing. “What the hell is so funny?” Demanded Genzo, whose face had turned red. “It’s a problem with the automatic translation.” Retorted Tim. Randall, who seemed unable to quit started in again “So, about this sixty-ni…” Genzo interrupted Randall with a swift punch to the face. But, because of their height difference it was a bit of an uppercut that left Randall rattled. Tim and Ikko moved to step in between the two, but Genzo showed no further hostility. Instead he just stared at his clenched fist with such intensity it grabbed the attention of the room. “I unlocked a skill.” He said bluntly. ***************************** This is not a light novel, but people who like light novels should enjoy the themes of this book. ***************************** A Map of the Region

Moonblood
Five moons rise over Evanir, each in her own cycle, and each moon is also a god, one of five sisters. Many gods create spirit attendants and companions, brought forth fully-formed. Long ago, the moons worked together to create a lineage that are, instead, humans transformed by the mingling of blood. They intended them to be long-lived and to draw their strength directly from the light of the moon who chose each individual. The five sisters had different goals in mind – one wanted it to be a blessing for scholars and artists, to give them more time and fewer physical distractions; another wanted them to have an animal form, different for each, to keep them more in tune with nature so they could serve as guardians of the wilderness. There are drawbacks to their children having human lives and personalities before being chosen: not all share the goals of their divine mothers, and some choose to put their gifts to darker uses. Those carrying the blood of one woman, fleeing the corruption in search of a quiet life, take a different path. -=-=-=-=- Moonblood isn't so much a novel as a series of adventures of varying length. They involve a core group of people, which does grow over time. They take place in a fairly low-magic world, but despite that, our core cast are directly connected to the moons and have various abilities, including limited shapeshifting to a single individual animal form. As with all my work, unless gender, orientation, or other aspects of sexuality are explicitly stated, I suggest not making assumptions. Probably most significant, I think, is a major trans character who appears about 80K words in - no spoilers, just a note for those who care about that one way or the other.
