Chapter 37: Dread Heroes

A few days have passed, and one of my requests arrived today.

Caskets came into the fortress where Idmon is stationed. The dwarves brought it in.

Dwarven Soldier: "Lord Idmon, these caskets hold the remains of our honored heroes. Please handle them with care."

Idmon: "Of course, I am honored to meet these people."

I met the Dwarven Envoys riding on a horse. I also rode on one.

Bon already finished his creation. I called it Skel. It doesn't wholly resemble a horse, though, especially the part where it had horns and bone spikes.

Bon told me this change was made to increase the battle potential.

Also, he doesn't neigh; what comes out is screams of tormented spirits.

I wore the Void Plate and Void Lance this time to look more respectable. They did seem to sweat a lot when talking to me, so; it must be effective.

The sudden discharges of negative energy from the Void Plate can be controlled as long as I keep a on. Even a thin one could do.

Now let's start the ritual.

The dwarves looked dismayed, but still, they did not interrupt our ritual.

Idmon: "Mages... Forward."

The Skeleton Mages formed a magic circle on the ground, and at the same time, the dwarves put the caskets on top of it.

Idmon: "Bon, start the spell."

There were ten caskets in the middle, so I opted to use a group for the skill so I won't get exhausted.

The mages will supply the negative energy while Me and Bon cast .

The Searcher is also observing this for data and information.

"The skill should be given a new name. It is not the ancient spell of the Skeleton King anymore."He said to me as he floats around. He still hasn't found his scythe, though.

I advised the Dwarven Envoys to leave since they might not be comfortable in witnessing this.

.

I raised the first casket in the formation, and I did the same for the others.

The envoys also told me that the families requested that their names be hidden. We should just refer to them as heroes.

After I got the ninth casket, they neatly lined up at the front, with no orders at all.

I shall call them the Dread Heroes. The Searcher recorded this as a new monster class.

Now the tenth casket.

There was still a single envoy left to make sure we are not desecrating the heroes' corpses.

Dwarven Envoy: "Wait, Lord Idmon. I have to warn you that this guy died in the hands of the undead. He might bear extreme resentment to your race."

Idmon: "I can restrain him. Don't worry."

It took us more energy to raise the tenth hero. The envoys told me he was called Granpa or Oldie.

No one knew his real name, only the ancestors.

He rose from the casket. He kicked the cover open.

He held a shining war hammer. Just right for his size.

Granpa: "You damn undead!"

He charged at me from the start.

! I shouted the spell in my mind.

He didn't stop; he just slowed down.

Idmon: "(t) Bon, help me restrain him!"

Bon: "Yes! "

Summoned bones now held Granpa. He dropped his war hammer because of the sudden spell.

Idmon: "(t) Keep him restrained. Call King Wargh here. We need Wargh to convince him."

Granpa: Let me go, you devil scum!"

He kept on shouting curses and making threats.

.

.

.

Idmon: "(t)King Wargh, I am not able to control him or even convince him to cooperate. Is it possible for you to convince him?"

Wargh: "Ahhh... Granpa. He was always grumpy and inflexible to anyone except old people. When I said old, those were the guys from his time."

Idmon: "Shall we put him back to rest then?"

Wargh: "No... He's here anyway. Let me try."

He walked towards the caged Granpa.

Wargh: "Hey, Granpa. I'm Wargh. Remember me?"

Granpa: "Wargh! What are you doing here with these skeletons? Hurry up and beat them up for me!"

Wargh: "Granpa... look at yourself first."

Granpa: "What do you me-... What!? I was raised from the dead!?"

Wargh: "Yes... and the other heroes too. We need you guys in the coming war. Please do it for the Dwarf Race. We are facing extinction before these guys came to help us."

Granpa: "Help you!? They were the ones who almost killed us all before! This is one of their schemes! Can't you see that?"

Wargh: "Please!"

One would think that this would be followed by a bow or a kneel, but this was King Wargh.

Wargh smashed the ground with Diamond. His war hammer.

Wargh: "Or I will send you back to death myself."

I was surprised, even knowing Wargh's attitude. He was willing to fight even heroes if they didn't cooperate with him.

Granpa: "Hmm. You've gotten a lot of guts in these past few- How many years has it been since we last met?"

Wargh" "75 years."

Granpa: "Not so long then."

Granpa sat down inside the cage and was thinking of something.

Granpa: "Okay, then... But I will only be under your command Wargh."

Idmon: "(t) So be it."

I gave the 10th Dread Hero to Wargh. The nine seems to know their role already. Just in case I had put them under without issuing any orders. I need to know where their loyalty lies first.

The Searcher was screaming weird things again while this was happening.

The Searcher: "Amazing!!! Marvelous!!! Your spell does not only produce undead with neutral affinities but also those hostile ones.

He was putting the information into his storage. He had his hands above his head.

The Searcher: "Here... and there... Good!"

This guy, I think he records everything new to him.

But that's not a bad thing. Anyone knows that recording stuff is essential. It might be the only thing that's left of us someday.
