《The Perfect Specimen》I Wasn't The Only One

An hour passes with everyone being guided into their preferred styles of fighting. Some showing more drive to improve than others. In the middle of educating the students in the importance of facilitating magic with a strong body, the doors to classroom open to reveal a group of men and women in business attire.

The teacher claps his hands to get everyone's attention. "Alright class, we will end today's lesson here. Please line up for the investigators to ask you some questions."

The students all hear this and line up while looking at the investigators. The group consists of four investigators with two of them being women and two being men. One of the women walk up to the first student,

"I am going to use scrying runes to judge the validity of your responses. Are you ready to being?"

The student nods stiffly before the women puts on a glove with strange markings over it and presses her palm against his head. She then goes into a tirade of questions.

"What is your name?"

"What school do you attend?"

"Do you have any knowledge on the murderers?"

"Where were you between these times?"

The student answers each question immediately while the woman stares intently at the runes on her glove. The runes have been shining with a grey color to it from the beginning. It never changes color through the entire process.

She does this with each student before getting to the tall boy who ambushed Alistair with the chubbier student before. She runs through the same questions. This time though, the normally grey colored runes turn a bright red.

Her and the rest of her group focus their eyes on the boy immediately before the woman speaks,

"You're lying. You were not in your room during the night of the attack. You are given one more chance to tell the truth. Failure to comply will result in detainment and further interrogation."

The tall boy who had a brave front up in front of the questions, immediately pales upon the though of what their interrogation methods could be. He hurriedly speaks up,

"I can not tell you exactly what I was doing last night due to certain implications, but I can refer you to this person who can tell you everything you need to know." He hands her a small green rune stone.

"You will be held in detainment until your whereabouts can be verified. We will postpone interrogative methods until that moment." She motions for one of the investigators to take the boy away and he does.

Finally they get to Alistair at the end of the line. He has been trying his best to maintain a calm and collected appearance despite his thoughts that were running a mile a minute.

The woman introduces herself like normal before she takes her glove and moves it towards Alistairs head. He winces his eyes in frustration at himself for not being able to come up with any way to escape. He knows how weak he is compared to everyone so fighting his way out is futile.

The best he can hope for is that his blacked out state last night and foggy memories will be unclear enough to trick the scrying magic. What worries him more than anything though, is the moment it touches his skin if his skin will burst into flames while trying to dispel the magic.

"Well, it may not be all bad... Maybe they will think it's part of my body condition like Beths family did."

Tossing caution to the wind he allows her to touch him. What happened next shocks him to his core, nothing happens. They grey rune lights up on her glove and she begins her line of questioning with Alistair answering each of them as fast as possible to avoid contact with the rune.

When it came time to answer the questions about the attacks though Alistair tried the best tactic he could come up with while preparing for this.

"Do you have any knowledge on the murderers?"

"I don't know anything about the murderers."

"Where were you between these times?"

"I passed out in my dorm last night at this time and woke up in my dorm at this."

The glove maintained it's grey shine all the way through the line of questioning. Reaching the end of her questions, she removes her hand and then goes over to the teacher.

Alistair breaths a sigh of relief before quickly feeling the spot where her hand had touched his head and feels no abnormalities or pain.

"I tried very hard to think of very vague answers for each of her questions that could expose me. Luckily it worked, and it seems like magic is not as all powerful as I originally thought it was."

He thinks back to the situation while still rubbing his head, finding it oddly soothing while thinking through complicated matters.

"But what on earth happened there? I was sure my body could not process magic. Maybe the spell the chubby kid used before was supposed to have an affect that burns away at the skin? That doesn't make any sense... From what Michelle told me, he should only know body enhancement magic.

Not to mention that most people who use magic do not try to learn different types of magic before reaching ascension as it can delay their advancement."

Thinking about the problems he just faced, he realizes that he will need to ask Michelle to help him with these problems. He has done a big enough favor for her in his last fight that she shouldn't be able to refuse.

Tossing these ideas to the back of his mind, Alistair waits for the investigators to finish their business and the teacher lets them go from class. Before they leave however, one of the men stand out from the group and say to the class,

"The murderers are still out there. Judging from the horrific way they left their victims, we can only assume them to be the most sick and twisted of people. Please be extra cautious and report anything or anyone strange or out of place to us."

He then turns and walks out of the class with the rest of the group. The teacher then rubs the back of his head while looking at his students and says,

"So i know that I praised you all for showing the courage to come to class despite the scare but, all classes are cancelled from this point on and you are all to return to your dorms. Apparently there has been another murder since last night."

Alistair's mind goes reeling, he was sure that he was the culprit behind the murders last night. How can there be another murder if he hasn't killed anyone since he woke up? Unless, "I wasn't the only one in that sewer last night..."
