"That's... gotta be a misdemeanor, right?" You have no idea how this works. "Can't we just, like--I don't know, bail him out?"
"Sure," says Kate. "You got five hundred bucks on you?"
Deep breath.
You do not, in fact, have five hundred bucks on you.
"Where are you at right now?," you finally ask.
"Right now I am..." she pauses. "Outside the police station. Way outside the police station, watching Maria yell at cops. ...I can't read lips but I don't think she has five hundred bucks on her, either. Where're you?"
"On the bus, headed home," you tell her. "Cici should be back at the house pretty soon, too."
"I guess we can meet up there," Kate states. "I don't think they're gonna let me waltz in and ask him some questions."
