I opened ready to greet and wake up the girls who probably hadn’t gotten up yet.

“I love you.”

The words I heard when I entered the room. The receiver of these words was Emi and the sender, Foxy. The words pierced through the room. It cut through any perceived perceptions, doubts or thoughts otherwise to the contrary of what Foxy’s feelings were for Emi. They hit the room like what I expect a bunker buster would do to this very room.

The next part was perhaps as painful the silence as Emi seemed shocked by the predicament she found herself in. Hell I was shocked and I wasn’t even the one who had received the confession. I felt a rather painful thrust into my heart as I heard those words but I disregarded it for the moment as what was in front of me as far more important.

“Okay…” Emi broke the unbearable silence, “Thanks for telling me…”

“I thought you should know…” said Foxy who I could feel felt quite embarrassed I had walked in. She walked out of the room with her face fully red and all that was left was Emi and I.

“Ummmm…” I tried to say something, anything something to try and break the silence but my mind stayed blank.

“Don’t say anything. I need some time alone.” Emi replied cutting me off.

“Take all the time you need.” I left the room and proceeded to wander around the town.

My mind swirled as I wondered what she meant by her answer. “Okay?” what type of answer is that? Who gives that type of answer to those words? My heart beat faster as I remember those words that Foxy had spoke. My hearts yearned to have the same words spoken to me. While I had denied it for a while I really did like Emi but I still wondered why?

When I had first met Emi I had been far more attracted to her sister Lisa. What had changed since then? Obviously a few years but perhaps I had only been physically attracted to Lisa but hadn’t really gotten to know her. Emi on the other hand I had gotten to know, fought against, struggled together through the cave of Dark and Light and formed a party together. Through all these experiences I had learnt to accept the good and bad. She was rash and sometimes angry with me for random reasons but I knew that when I needed her most she was there. I liked her for who she was not only because I was attracted to her appearance that I had recently taken more of a notice of.

God (I mean Greg) I felt sort of like one of those dumb or dense characters that seem to inhabit those stories where they get the girl. But perhaps I had tried to ignore those signs that I had felt that Emi liked me too, I had never had never felt such feelings of happiness from someone other than family. But I had denied these deep and pure feelings for far too long. Time to step away from the so-called “Dense Protagonist” that every person who reads a novel or any piece of literature gets angry about. I need to be more aware of my surroundings. Just as I want to protect myself I need to be more aware of those around me. Whether romantically or otherwise.

I suddenly felt I had to gasp as I had realized throughout that whole thought I had not taken a single breath. I took a few deep breaths and promised myself that I would be more aware of my surroundings. Not only for my survival but for my wellbeing too.

Wait…where on earth am I? Damn it I had just resolved that I would be more aware of my surroundings and through being so deep in my thoughts I had wondered away from the part of town I knew. Oh the irony, promising myself I would be more aware and then getting lost… *sigh* it will be long road ahead of me…

As I finished my thought I realized something wasn’t right. The air around me felt wrong and my swords seemed to humming as if something was wrong…Something WAS wrong. I pulled out my swords and called out,

“Come out whatever foul beast wishes to do harm to me!” What the hell was that? Why am I sounding like one of those old fashioned heroes…

It seemed as I had found myself in an alley. Thieves flowed through both sides cutting both of my exits. They laughed as they came closer. It seemed they thought they had found easy prey that they could steal from. I readied myself,

“What do you want of me?” I drew my swords ready for the fight that I sensed would soon happen. Why do I keep speaking so weird anyway?

One of the muggers spoke who seemed to be their leader, “Just your stuff we don’t want much.” He laughed and the laughter flittered through the band of bandits. I laughed with them, loudly and as fake as I could. As I started to do that the man that had started the laugh stopped laughing and narrowed his eyes, “So you don’t want to part with your valuables then.”

“You presume correct.” Damn it maybe I was doing this because I was nervous?

“Alright then lets get this over with.” He made a gesture and all the men unsheathed their range of weapons. Some had proper swords, others daggers, a couple of them had bats that resembled baseball bats and one of them even had a large sledgehammer.

Both my swords started emitting their auras as I got more excited. I immediately tried to calm myself and restrain their power but I could feel that the adrenaline was pumping through as I got ready to fight these enemies. Luckily the alleyway was normal so I wouldn’t be completely surrounded on all sides. I breathed in and calmed myself as I analyzed the situation.
