Chapter 33: The Darkness

“Hi Clover.” A voice penetrated my hazy mind clearing it right away. I was no longer in the cave but in the great abyss that would scare most people. However having been here now several times this endless place did not scare me. I was back with my favorite “god”.

“Hi God, why do I get the pleasure of your visit this time?”

“Please we’ve been meeting up so many times I find it a bit odd almost to be kept on being called god. Call me Greg.”

“Greg…why Greg exactly?” I widened my eyes by the rather absurd name this “god” seemed to want to be called.

“I don’t know I’m trying it out. I tried Li and John but they didn’t feel like my name.”

“So you’ve decided to call yourself after a human name…I thought you would have some inconceivable name that would be unable to be comprehended by the us mere mortals which would confirm your very existence as a deity. Thereby placing you squarely as “God””

“I do.”

“Mhm.” I was rather skeptical that this god who wished to go by the name Greg was indeed the one true god or even a major god at all. Though stranger things have happened, I’ve landed on an alternate planet where status windows are a part of the norm, magic exists and most improbable I’m living rather amicably with two girls in the same room…So I guess things don’t surprise me much.

“Yes.” The one called Greg spoke.

There was a silence as perhaps neither side knew what to say to break that rather awkward end to a conversation. The one true Greg, I mean God broke the silence,

“So I’m guessing you are wondering why you are here again?”

“That would be correct I’m kind of wondering why you brought me here. I was under the impression that I would only talk to you after the tournament was over…”

“That was the original intention but circumstances have changed. You are actually in possession of one of my more prized pieces in my collection.”

“Oh really? My swords are connected to you?”

“Yes I was the one who created that little puzzle in the first place.”

“You call that a small puzzle…”

“Yes a few interesting riddles that were meant to bamboozle the few that trespassed there.”

I started connecting dots… if Angil knew the person who created the dungeon then “Greg” must know be the guy.

“So you must know Angil?”

“You’ve met him? Ah yes Angil was a nice guy.”

“You know him?!”

“Yeah a very peculiar guy with a fair few different quirks. A similar case that drew my curiosity like you.”

“Sure… so what was so important that you needed to drag me back here?”

“Ah yes, do you remember what happened before you passed out?”

“I was using the sword Dark and it seemed to be doing the job it spread all over the monster and killed it.”

“In that sense you are correct but in an entirely different sense you are wrong. “

“Really?!”

Greg the God suddenly manifested the two swords, Dark and Light and gave floated them up in between his incorporeal body and my own. They seemed to glow when handled by him almost as if he they had a consciousness of their own…

“They are alive?!” I exclaimed.

“Correct, in one sense. They have desires and thoughts but no moving parts or body in that sense.”

“So then how are they alive?”

“You could say that in your own world they would be called spirits within an inanimate object. They were given life from love.”

“So you are capable of love…” I murmured.

“I guess it would be a bit of both, a bit of magic and a bit of thought that could possibly be conceived as love.”

“So then why did you reveal that to me?”

“Well both your swords and Emi’s both have thoughts and desires and the one that you felt as you passed out was one of Dark’s”

“The need for energy?”

“No…something perhaps more deadly than that, the need to devour…”

“Is that was the reason I passed out?”

“Yes it wanted to devour power that you were not ready to handle. It forced all of the magic from the body of that monster you were fighting into your body.”

“The result was obvious then, I haven’t really used any magic so I can’t handle more than I can use.”

“Yes magic isn’t something measureable or as simple as your own world seemed to imagine in their fictional pieces of literature. It is forever fluctuating forever moving around.”

“So then how do I control the needs of Dark?”

“You need to control your own emotions, you suddenly had an intense urge to kill that monster and Dark wished to comply its current master’s wishes.”

“What do I need to do then?”

“Whenever you feel Dark is becoming out of control you need to impart your own thoughts into the sword itself. The thought of restraint, rejection of the energy it wants to give.”

“I also felt the energy it wanted to give was…foul. Evil like it was rejecting life itself.”

“That perhaps is what you believe is true, evil is evil there is no need for it but that is what I believe is wrong. Evil and Good coexist like that yin yang symbol in your previous life. They need each other to survive. They rely and live together. What you must know is that life has need for both the Dark and the Light. Hence why I created this set. Emi’s is similar the Flame and the Ice which is meant to be the Heat and the Cold. But that didn’t sound as cool.”

“Seriously? That seems a little irresponsible deciding something’s power just because it “ didn’t sound as cool”…”

“However you’ve forgotten one thing in all this talking…”

“What is that?” I asked curiously

“The Light.”
