《The Lucky Clover》Chapter 3: Alt. Version (NOT CANON) - 100k Views Bonus
Advertisement
NOTE: This is not canon and was my original version which I decided to not go with in the end. It didn't seem the right way to go. But I thought it would be a nice bonus for the celebrating of 100k view, to see what direction it could have went if I had decided to go this way. I feel It would certainly would have been a completely different story had I gone this way. But I scrapped it in the end because I didn't feel it had enough "punch" and it seemed to push me into a corner that I did not want to go.
Chapter 3: Alternate Version:
As my consciousness came to. I was suddenly struck with fear. Darkness was all around me. The same darkness that I had felt as I left the other world.
I heard himself wailing in fear, the liquid that surrounded me seemed to convulse as I was constricted by the sides of this object.
Was I going to die?
Was this going to be the end of me?
My life cut short as soon as it began?
Then suddenly a blinding light surrounded the darkness and a warm blanket soon followed filled with the warmth of a mother’s love.
And then it struck me.
I’m being born.
I looked up above and squinted seeing the radiant smile the one who had just given birth to me.
It was…beautiful there was no other word to describe it. That was my last thought as I drifted off.
I soon woke up again and realized I had this sudden hunger that needed to be sated. I wailed and wailed for help. And then she appeared.
There was my mother a woman with striking red hair, and an irresistibly dignified face. Eyes that pierced through any lie and at the same time carried indescribable warmth. A nose that any model would have been proud of and a beaming smile that struck away any insecurity.

She gave her breast for nourishment and I was soon filled with relief that spread throughout my body. It was an acceptance I had never felt or remembered before. An acceptance of my very being for all its fault and problems.
I felt…loved.
As she gave her breast for nourishment I heard her say.
“My lovely Clover, what a beautiful baby.”
After an initial hesitation I immediately told myself I would not let something as simple as a name, stop my progress. It even steeled my determination to start anew.
This was a mother who loved me.
A mother who accepted me.
A mother who’s smile who washed away any doubts I had.
Yet again I faded into sleep’s warm embrace.
By the age of 1 I was already crawling around exploring my surrounding with my mother Andrea constantly worrying. But my father, Constantine protested in a language I had never heard of,
“xfdfds dfkmqw alwkma alkwr nazoe apqnasd ortpm oasdm.”
I explored all around every which way I could find. Climbing around on the oak staircase or even once my dad’s work study.
The work study seemed to be filled with all sorts of chemicals and inscriptions. I could feel something was different. As I was climbing on top of the table to have a closer look my strength gave way and fell down with a massive knock. I had fallen down on my elbow and I was wailing with pain.
My mother rushed in and saw that I had a wound and immediately uttered words that suddenly made me feel a warmth wrap around me and my elbow no longer hurt. It seemed to go back to normal Afterwards she started telling me off.
By the age of 2 I was finally able to walk, talk understand the language that parents were talking in called “Basic”. I was finally able to gather where I was, it seemed from what my parents told me was that I was on the continent of Alexandria. I was a human but there were a great many races seemed to reside on this continent. My dad seemed to have the job of researching new ways to use the Soul’s power and mother seemed to be a retired adventurer who met had met Constantine my father during her travels and settled down with him.

By the age of 3 I was starting to get more and more curious about the world around me and had proceeded to try and read as many of the books that resided in the home. My mother explained to me that because of the new invention of Ink Press books were becoming more and more widespread.
In one of the books I read I saw that there seemed to be something called Soul in which power could be used from. When I asked my parents they introduced me to there seemed to be also some sort energy control that would almost be akin to magic in my original world. My mother Andria explained this was how she healed me when I got hurt before.
[Introduction to Soul
Soul is a contested subject that many brilliant minds of Alexandria can not seem to agree exactly what it is. But at its simplest it is a way in which to manipulate energy around us to do many different tasks. This power is believed to be descended from the Almighty God who gave it to the first beings as a way to defend themselves against the demon monsters.
Soul’s uses can be split up into 4 categories:
Earth – Manipulating directly the solids around us.
Water – Tends to deal with the manipulation of liquids around and inside us.
Fire – Is the manipulation of heat in all its different forms.
Aether – Is a disputed fourth where there is some evidence that this existed previously but no one has been able to prove conclusively.]
By the age of 5 I was getting more and more interested in what this power of Soul and how to harness it. My parents bought me a book for my birthday that introduced these concepts to a beginner
[How to use Soul for Beginners
In this book we learn how to use Soul in an easy way that anyone can be able to use it! In these few steps you’ll be able to use Soul to do some amazing things.
Step 1:
Understand to begin to use Soul you must first have a calm state of mind.
Step 2:
Now breath deeply in and out. Concentrate on this breathing. You should feel this sudden warmth begins to spread to your body. This is Soul.
Step 3:
Now to release it remember to do this outside! Get a bit of clear and start imagining in your mind that you are molding that bit of ground into a ball.
Step 4:
Keep repeating the steps until you have success.]
They encouraged me to try Soul out under the supervision of them but I was too intrigued by this concept of Soul and its power that I practiced in secret at night whenever I could.

Old Riding Author Lunatic Asylum
Just off the A19, in the dark, incomprehensible lands known as Yorkshire, there lies a town. A town where shadow-silent alleys glint with the secret hunger of knives. Where blood soaks the chipboard window shutters of forsaken terraces stretching off into the night. Where the smog-choked air rattles with the depraved laughter echoing out from clubs that can only generously be described as post-apocalyptic. Well, that’s Middlesbrough. But down the A19 a bit (an impossibly long way down, actually) there lies another town: Raughnen, in the ancient, forgotten Old Riding. It is an equal match in muggery and thuggery alike. It also has magic spells and pointy wizard hats. And now, across the miles and across all sensibilities, a pretty nasty power (a magic one) calls out for its pretty nasty counterpart (a decidedly unmagic one): a proper sound Boro lad. Nothing good can come of it. This is a collection of one novella and four connected short stories: I. A Yorkshire Summoning II. Old Riding Day Trip (the novella) III. Heaven is a Parmo IV. Death on the 66 V. Death on the 257 In total, this comprises 34 chapters totalling around 35,000 words, so try not to worry. It will be over relatively quickly. There are three more short stories with more tenuous links to the core collection: Rush, Paper Round and Scenario 79: Sausage Fingers, all of which can be found in my collection Short Records of Misadventure. Reading these may allow you to make more sense of certain parts of the story, if any sense is to be made at all. NOTE: There are instances of prejudice and discrimination within these stories, including elements of sexism and ageism, which are purely the thoughts and actions of the characters involved and which certainly do not reflect my own views on these matters. ANOTHER NOTE; A WARNING, PERHAPS: This can get a bit weird. In less than 150 pages, we have four viewpoints, first and third person narratives, and a completely disjointed plot with lots of gaps, dead ends and no real resolution. Also ZERO lunatic asylums. It's all a bit odd. If that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea, which it most likely isn't, it might be best to move on now.
