Chapter 11: Black and White
My mind fades back into consciousness and just before I open my eyes I see a blue text window reading:
You are the first to discover The Cave of Dark and Light+25 all stats
Ah so this place that we’ve landed in is called the Cave of Dark and Light. Weird that I would get such a mess-
I suddenly noticed that I was being shaken violently and being shouted at by a voice that I recognized.
“Come on Clover Wake up! Please don’t be dead! CLOVER!”
As I open my eyes I can see the faint outline of a girl, shaking me violently. My mind slowly starts processing and I finally realize it is Emi looking very worried that I may be dead.
“It’s okay Emi I’m alive I’m okay.”
She hugged me closely I could feel her warmth being transferred to me.
“Thank God! What were you thinking suddenly jumping off your horse and rolling down the hill?!”
“I was just so worried that I would never see you. I didn’t want to think about not seeing again. So I just instinctually ran to try and save you. “
“Still you didn’t need to do that.”
“No I didn’t need to but I wanted to I really care about you, I wanted to protect you.”
Even in the darkness I could see her smile at that. I was glad that she felt the same way about caring for me.
“Anyway back on top Clover, where do you think we are?”
“I think this place is called “The Cave of Dark and Light”.”
“How do you know that…?”
“I just have this…errrrr…feeling?”

“O-Okay then…Its so dark in here. I wonder if we can get out.”
“It doesn’t look like it we seemed to fall through a whole down to here.”
“It’s so dark even now its so hard to see each other. Did you bring something that could light up?”
“No I don’t think so and anyway I seemed to have lost all my stuff. Luckily I put our gold on me so we didn’t lose that. I seemed to have also lost the sword Lisa gave me. Boy she’s going to be mad at me when I get back.”
But we still needed to solve the problem of being able to navigate to see. The worst thing would be trying to find our way out of here blind. We needed the light to keep track of our direction and where we were. Did we have any sort of light source on us that could be used? The idea came to me as I thought about the items that I had on me,
“I know what we can do, we can use our status tags.”
“Do you think that will work?”
“I believe so as long as we keep thinking of Status Tag in on mode then it should stay on.”
“We should test it to see if that gives us any actual light.”
We both took out our respective status tags and said the words to start them up,
“Status Tag On!”
The light that they give was a welcome relief that although fairly dim was far better than previously. As my eyes got used to the new light conditions I noticed how badly scratched up Emi was,
“Emi are you okay? You look horribly banged up.”
“Yeah a bit sore here and there but I didn’t break any bones. I think I’ll be okay.”

I instinctively suddenly felt a need to hug Emi so I proceeded to hug her.
“I know this isn’t much but hopefully it makes you feel better.”
She seemed to perk a bit so I was happy that I had managed to do the right thing to cheer her up. Hugging her felt so nice and warm and comforting. I wanted to keep doing it but I knew this wasn’t the time. We needed to think of a way to get out.
As I peer round to see our surroundings I spot a sign saying “The Cave of Dark and Light.”
I pointed to it and told Emi, “It looks like this cave is actually called “The Cave of Dark and Light.”
“Yeah it seems like it.”
“We should start looking for a way out as it doesn’t seem like we’ll be able to use the way we came from as a way back out.”
“Yeah good idea, we need to scout and see if there’s a way out. Though we’ll need to be on our toes to make sure we don’t get any nasty surprises,” warned Emi.
As we entered the cave we noticed a gradual difference in the walls of cave. On the outside it had been very craggy and cave like but as got further and further in they seemed to smoothen. Almost as if someone had formed the cave themselves…
This set alarm bells ringing in my mind as I thought perhaps this was a trap, but there really wasn’t any other choice other than going in deeper and exploring.
As we ventured deeper we noticed that it was a dead end on a wall that looked so smooth it was impossible for it not to have been created by something. It was a rather imposing wall completely smooth, solid as any material I had seen here and hollow in sound, On the wall there was writing all over and it read, “Welcome, to the first challenge. “Answer me this, I am the light in the dark, and dark in the light. And I sleep for just one night. What am I?”
