《Life in another world with an Immunity System》6. Ki vs Magic

Due to the place and timing, Andel didn’t open his system to check on it. Thanks to others encouraging him, Andel broke his absolute boundary. It was something worth a celebration.
“Alright, kid. You have proven yourself to be capable.” Frendez said as he patted on Andel’s chest. A stream of warm current passed from Frendez’s hand and entered into Andel’s body. In less than a second, Andel felt all the fatigue leaving his system and the hidden wound healing.
“What is this?” Asked Andel as he got up from the ground. Feeling an abundance of energy in him, he started stretching. He felt fresher than waking from a long and relaxing sleep.
“That’s something you will never have.” Two had a sour face. He felt humiliated after Andel managed to do more than a thousand pushups. Not even an hour passed since he said those hurtful words to Andel, and the kid already proved him wrong. Now when he got an opportunity, forgetting their age difference, he took it to give a snide remark.
“Shut up, Two!” Travis snapped at him. Lilia too sent a glare at him. they looked at Andel with an awkward smile, “you did great, Andel.” It was Lilia who took it upon herself to encourage him. Her voice was very smooth and had a unique charm to it.
Andel felt very comfortable hearing her until a notification box appeared.
You have acquired Sound Immunity Lv 1
‘The fuck!’ He swore at the notification and looked at Lilia sharply. It was unintentional as he was only trying to take a look if she was doing it purposely or not. However, Lilia was very astute with her observation and found him staring almost instantly. As their eyes met, Andel saw how blank they were. It's as if she had given up on everything, including her life.
On the other hand, Lilia noticed Andel’s look and understood he discovered her using her ability on him. She had seen this look a lot in her short life of 21 years. She felt anxious about it and tried to explain, but Frendez’s voice stopped her before she could anyway.

“Wow, kid! Didn’t expect you to be such a beast.” Frendez gave him thumbs up. “I have got a rough idea of your limits now. Man, Selina got lucky.” He sounded nonchalant, but Andel, who had a rich experience in reading people due to his years of experience in his previous life, he noticed his jealousy.
‘So, this is how those overachievers felt back in school!’ Andel thought humorously. Unaware of his thoughts, Frendez continued. “As for your question, it's my Ki.” While saying that, he clenched his fist as a yellow glow covered it. The aura gave an impression of a fire burning on his hand. Andel, if he had to be honest with himself, felt it was really cool.
“This is called Ki. Kid, let me tell you something.” Frendez smirked while unclenching his fist. The glow vanished, leaving not a single speck behind. Everything returned to normal. “You know the basic difference between Ki and magic, right?” Frendez shifted to his left foot as he asked this question.
At Andel’s nod, he nodded in response and continued. “Though magic is far superior to ki, there are some points it loses in a landslide.”
‘What?’ Andel couldn’t believe Frendez. Ever since he was a kid, he had been reading and watching how magicians dominate the battlefield and how superior the magic was to ki and other forms of energies. Even the so-called Superpowers paled in comparison to it.
“Hmm!? What with that ‘I can’t believe it’ look?” Frendez raised a brow afters seeing Andel’s weird look. “You think I am lying?” He further asked with a smirk.
Andel nearly nodded but stopped himself in time. Travis and Lilia couldn’t help but burst out laughing after seeing his awkward reaction. While everyone sans Two was busy laughing, Frendez face soured. After throwing a glance at the laughing ones to shut them up, he explained his reason to Andel.
“Let me ask you some questions, kid. Have you ever seen any magician below Apostle able to pull their raw magic out of their body without a spell? Again, have you ever seen a magician able to protect their body with magic without using a spell? Lastly, have you ever heard any magician able to stick in a battle for more than half an hour?” Frendez’s eyes bore into Andel’s as he fired one question after another.

Andel narrowed his eyes and tried to search his memory to see if he had seen or heard any such things asked by Frendez. But, after a while, he shook his head negatively. No one in the Seras family had reached the level of an Apostle. Therefore he had never seen or read magic coming out of a magician’s body. In every book, it's all about spells and magic circles, basically all the applications of magic. Never had he ever read any usage of raw magic.
“See?” Frendez smirked showing his white thirty-twos as he did so. “Magic is powerful and versatile, but it lacked certain things that ki has. It can’t be taken out of the body without a spell, and therefore can’t protect its user the way ki does.”
Frendez then raised his index and middle finger. “Second, ki has a ‘healing’ effect to it which magic didn’t have. Due to this passive healing, it makes the ki users more durable in a battle than magicians. There was a recorded proof that a well-trained ki practitioner, who hadn’t even reached much high of a level, lasted two days in a battle of attrition against her foe.”
Frendez raised another finger, “Finally, ki can directly invade other’s bodies and cause internal damage to the target. Magic can do better, but only through a spell.”
Andel had to double-take at the revelation. He didn’t know the less liked ki had so many advantages over magic. But Frendez had more to say.
“I filled up your body with my ki, but instead of damaging you, I willed it to heal you instead.”
“So that’s why I had this ‘sugar-high’ feeling!” Andel mumbled as he hopped on his toes to lose some ‘excess’ energy.
“Ahahaha!! Sugar high! That’s an apt way to describe it, I suppose.” Frendez wiped the tears from the corner of his eyes before patting on Andel’s shoulders. “Kid, you are funny. I like it. Anyway, what you do now is to do 500 pushups, 100 situps and go through all the steps of Krav Maga. That will be your usual morning routine.”
“Hm! Why Krav Maga?” Travis asked in confusion. They have a lot of better techniques which they could teach him. He didn’t understand why Frendez wanted him to learn a mortal technique.
“It was mainly because of Andel’s unique circumstances. The technique we know requires either magic or ki to show their full prowess. Besides, from what I heard from family, Andel here is very adept in not only Karv Maga but also Vale Tudo, Judo, and a few other close combats. Selina is the perfect mentor for him.” Frendez answered what he heard from the family when he asked about why they should take in this ‘powerless’ brat last night.
What stumped him however was a little fact that the family’s main instructor said him. Despite not having magic and ki, this Andel defeated nearly all ki practitioners of his age. He wondered and even asked how could that be possible?
In the end, both he and the instructor of the family came to the same conclusion.
Andel Seras had a Superpower.
Usually, having a Superpower wasn’t that rare. After all, it was just a genetic mutation caused due to parents having magic or ki in their system. This genetic mutation gives the user a random ability, some of which couldn’t even be explained by science and magicians. However, due to most of them being relatively useless, no one looked at Superpowers favorably.
However, those few abilities that weren’t could even challenge powerful magicians and higher-level ki users.
Andel Seras has a Superpower and one that isn’t useless or random. This was the conclusion they have reached after hours of speculation.
No wonder he was very jealous of seeing this ‘gem’ getting picked by that ‘weird’ girl.
