《The Journey Towards Stardom》Chapter 18 - The White Rabbit

The next morning after eating breakfast, all three judges came to the villa to announce the theme for the challenge, instead of the normal recording.

“Ok guys, today’s challenge is Alice in Wonderland. You have 15 minutes to get ready.” Cole announced.

Everyone ran to get ready before the 15 minutes were up. Always the one to wake up first to have an uninterrupted shower, Faer was ready to go.

At the studio, the contestants could choose what characters from Alice in Wonderland they wanted to portray. All the guys chose The Mad Hatter and Knave of Hearts, while the girls chose Alice and the Queen of Hearts. There were so many other characters to choose from but they all wanted to be a popular character that they didn’t even think about diversity.

Faer, not wanting to be like the rest, chose The White Rabbit. When he mentioned this, everyone started laughing.

“What an idiot! Who would choose such a boring character?”

“That just means we can get rid of him quicker.”

“Ah, I’m in stitches. This guy never fails to make me die of laughter.”

Not paying the least bit of attention to them, Faer went to get his makeup and hair done. The judges made him go last since he performed so badly at the last shoot, He didn’t mind, though; he just sat and waited until it was his turn.

Approximately two hours later he walked out of the dressing room. As soon as the others saw him, they stopped and stared.

“Cute.” The silence was broken.

As if coming out of a trance, they shook their heads and stepped aside for Faer to pass.

The photographer turned around and pressed his hand to his chest as if he just suffered a huge blow.

“What magnificence is this?! Darling, the cuteness factor is just too much.”

Standing against the backdrop, everyone looked at Faer and gulped. Dressed in a royal blue jacket with gold linings, a matching colored vest, a big white bow tied around his neck with tight white pants, he looked enchanting, especially with no shoes on, his little toes looked adorable. What made everyone die of moe was the bunny ears on top of his head. No one quite knew how they were moving but they looked real and the color matched his silver hair perfectly which made it look all the more authentic.

Faer gave a smile to the photographer then crinkled his nose cutely. Not wanting to miss such a wonderful shot, the photographer clicked away nonstop.

The White Rabbit was always in a hurry and to Faer, it always seemed that it was hiding just a touch of madness behind those eyes. Taking out a pocket watch, he clipped it to the bow and then put the chain in his mouth, looking straight at the camera. The photographer was having a blast as Faer gave him life. Expressions of shyness, anger, impatience, and madness, he loved it all. The two-toned eyes gave him an indescribable feeling. The blue was tranquil and drew people to him but the red one gave off a dangerous impression, like if you looked too long you’ll get burned to cinders. The contrasts were mind-blowing, it made the photographer think a war was waging inside Faer, making him want to see which side would emerge the victor.

There was no doubt that Faer would be the winner of this challenge, everyone else paled in comparison to him. The photographer couldn’t even remember why he secretly declared William, the winner of the challenge.

'William? What rubbish! These dog eyes sure are getting old.’

The one with the most dissatisfaction was William. He complained all the way back to the villa.

The cameraman never once missed out on capturing William’s tantrum. The other players wanted him to shut up but no one dared to say anything. William might be in the same boat as them but his background was on another level, they couldn’t afford to offend him.

Back at the villa, when everyone was winding down and hanging out, Faer went to the Record Diary room. It was where contestants could come and get things off their chest.

Faer sat and stared at nothing in particular for minutes, then tears unrestrainedly fell from his eyes one after the other.

“I haven’t been here long, and I didn’t come here to make any friends but why does everyone dislike me so much? I only wanted to do my best for the challenges and though the first one didn’t go well, is that why I’m being made fun of all the time?” Faer looked earnestly at the blinking red light.

“Ever since I can remember, I had always been fat until a couple months ago. No one wanted to talk to me and I thought I was fine with that. Not having any friends or people to rely on isn’t the end of the world. Lots of people have it worse but now that I worked so hard to lose weight and look more appealing, I thought I’d have friends for sure.” Looking at the camera and pleading, Faer continued, “Is there something bad about me that makes people hate me so much? Am I really a bad person?”

The sorrow and loneliness reflected in his eyes could make people’s hearts ache.

Brushing away his tears with his hand he stood up with his back hunched and shuffled out the door, his shadow casting a lonely image. As soon as he was back in his room, the sadness from before was gone completely.

‘That wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. If that doesn’t let the viewers sympathize with me then, I don’t know what will.’
