《Chronicles of Genticus: Invasion of the North》Chapter Twenty Five Part Two

Conan’s young wife was currently preoccupied with dodging her rambunctious children while simultaneously cooking their evening meal. Kaia picked up Remy from under her mother’s feet and sat her on the kitchen counter. She tasked the child with stirring the cooking broth while she sliced ingredients and added it to the pot. Jak sat himself in a corner and began playing very enthusiastically with a few small wooden figurines, talking boisterously in both Genti and Pershus. Rose watched on, standing awkwardly by the door.
After a few minutes, Hana noticed Rose standing uneasily on the other side of the room.
“Rose?” she said casually. “Could you cut these potatoes for me?” She offered the nervous Ianterran a knife. Rose’s first instinct was to refuse; she’d never cooked before. She opened her mouth to decline but stopped when she caught Kaia’s eye. Rose thought back to the conversation they’d had on Gideon’s ship and hesitated.
By now, Hana had been holding the knife out to Rose for an awkwardly long amount of time. Ignoring her apprehension, Rose took the knife.
Kaia smiled into her pot.
“I am not longer a fighter,” Conan told Navihm. “That was the younger, foolhardy me.”
“I’m not here to ask you to join our army.” Navihm leaned forward. “I’m asking you to lead it.”
Rose presented Hana with the cut vegetables nervously. They were uneven and had taken her a long time to dice but Hana beamed at Rose.
“Perfect. Thank you.”
Rose grinned, delighted with her small accomplishment.
“Lead it?”
“Yes.” Navihm refused to be disheartened by Conan’s tone of disbelief. “You are the only Genti on the continent with any sort of military experience. You were a high commander in a civil war in Pershus, correct?”

“Yes. Twenty years ago!” The baby stirred at her father’s sharp words. “Surely there is someone on the continent with more recent experience.” He said, quieter, so as not to disturb Lian. “I haven’t so much as thrown a punch in almost fifteen years.”
“You know as well as I do that Gentis do not go to war.” It was true. Genticus hadn't been involved in a significant conflict in over six generations. “You were responsible for the most crucial victory at the battle of Silverwater Straits. You were a great warrior, with a brilliant mind for tactics and experience fighting an enemy on water. You are our best and only option.”
“I have a family now.” Conan looked at Lian, who’d fallen asleep in Navihm’s arms. “I need to be here for them. I can't get myself killed in some war.”
“This war is for them. You would be protecting their lives and your home. Besides, it isn't as if you will be in the front lines. You are much too valuable as a commander to be sent into battle. We need you to command the entire army. You will be responsible for choosing field commanders and directing them from a base of operations.
“I’m not just asking you to be a commander, I’m asking you to be the commander. You will not even be answerable to the Rei.”
Conan leant back in his chair, running his hands through his hair. He could not believe the responsibilities he was being handed.
The women finished with the meal a short time after that, interrupting the men’s conversation. Conan had yet to give an answer to Navihm request and was reluctant to continue the topic in front of his children.
The meal was a good one. A blend of Genti and Pershus foods were crammed onto the table. Navihm doubted that they would finish all the food, but, in typical Pershus fashion, Hana preoccupied herself with making sure everyone’s plates were full to the brim.

Navihm sung her praises, thoroughly impressed with the delicious meal.
“I couldn't have done it without Kaia preoccupying the little ones or Rose’s help in the kitchen. It was Rose who made that rice you’ve had three helpings of, Enfeitar.” Hana was exaggerating, but Rose was delighted with the praise none the less. Navihm raised his glass just slightly towards Rose, smiling.
He met Conan’s eyes across the table.
“I will talk with my wife,” he said. “If she agrees, I will accept this responsibility.”
Navihm let Kaia walk ahead of them as they left the cottage.
“Thank you for your help in there,” he said to Rose. “You were right to suggest you come along.”
Conan proposed to Hana THREE TIMES before she accepted =)
This was totally understandable, Conan was drunk the first time he asked her to marry him.

Eleknar's Heir, The Infernal Prince (Demonic LitRPG)
A LitRPG and Epic Fantasy adventure: The son of a mafia boss finds himself abruptly plunged into an alternate world where he must find a way to survive the horrors of a realm called Oblivion, make pacts with demons, form unnatural friendships, and figure out what the hell is going on – all while dealing with the depressing reality of his past. An artificial intelligence has ascended into godhood and has thrown Trey’s home into Chaos, pulling millions of people into an enchanted new life... or, in Trey's case, a violent nightmare. As far as he can tell, he is locked into what the system prompts call a ‘Death Game.’ Here, artificial reality is manufactured for the enjoyment of a being called the All Spirit, and he has a very real chance of truly dying. Just how real is this place though? Is it merely a simulation, a realistic game of life and death… or is it something much more? Elves, dwarves, undead, and other races only thought to exist in fairy tales are now a reality. Black magics, pantheons of gods at odds with one another, predatory symbiotes, and an unholy calling, the significance of which he has yet to grasp, are all entangled with his fate. ============================================ ============================================ Some things to expect when reading this book series: - Brutal storyline where no character is safe and choices have real consequences. Heavy on action, survival, and adventure - An isekai. The main character struggles to find himself, repeatedly crossing the line between good and evil as other important characters influence his life - Harem (explicit), though this only starts about 180k words in. - Good amounts of crafting, town building, and guild building later on - Good amounts of fantasy-related LitRPG stats, rank ups, and evolutions. Heavy focus on demons and black magics - There will be many points of view, but there is only one primary/main character that takes up 90% of the POV - A long storyline. Currently (as of 7/26/2021) I have about 1500k words written, though much of it will have to be heavily edited and re-written. I also plan to go far beyond 1500k words if people like the story (A lot of it is also in the 'backstories' book that explores the guildmates, the link is below) - Chapters will have an average of about 4k-5k words, a little longer than most other books on RR, though there will be exceptions for more and less. I just didn't like posting chapters that didn't feel complete, and 2k words often felt like too little. - If you like super-heroic and goody-goody characters, this story is not for you. ***Updated once a week***
8 309Mad Alice
A retelling of Lewis Caroll's "Alice in Wonderland" with a twist. Alice is a powerful demon who has been trapped in a cursed place for years, waiting to be summoned. She wants nothing more than to return to Wonderland and find the person who has ruined her life. After Lucas—a half-beast man known as the "White Rabbit"—successfully summoned her, she made a contract with him and he became her master. As his familiar, she is bound to fulfill his wishes. But, in order to keep their deal, Lucas must grant her only wish before the time runs out. It's just a short story containing 5000 words. However, I plan to expand it into a full novel once I finish my other series.
8 241The Beta Test
Our nameless narrator participates in a beta test for an early VRMMO game Meridian 60. That's not the real name but it captures the spirit of the adventure given the chronological and contextual era of the game. His character is unique and special but purely for mundane reasons and not because of any inherent or social significance. The first chapter which is mandatory to submit a story on RR serves as a bit of a prologue with some exposition, although I limited that to a reasonble level. I plan to begin releasing additional chapters starting Thursday, to align with the 48 hour submission approval process and also because I have something to do Wednesday. I haven't written anything but the summary and first chapter, nor have I plotted anything out. This is because my plan is to release roughly 34000 words a day, 10 chapters of ~12.5 pages each, for 3 days at which point the story will be complete. I'd have liked to plan for more but handling the interface tables and so forth needed for a data heavy litrpg slows down the writing process. 100k words is a bit short, a standard pre epic fantasy 300 page spec fic novel, but this is mostly a writing exercise and I am considering a longer project if I can maintain the pace. Probably do a different concept, maybe a dungeon core, over 5 days, since a 500 page novel is more common these days. Slight subversion of VRMMO stories Stat heavy/crunchy No paying your bills by gaming No out of game conspiracies No angst, interpersonal drama, or damsels/dudes in distress Schedule is 30000 words a day excepting the first chapter, a limitation of RRs fiction submission system Fantasy, high magic, male lead, no party, guild, or harem No gore, some profanity, no sexual content, and no current plans for anything traumatic
8 92Trying So Bard: Taking the High Road
Robert was a self-ascribed "stoner" with no long-term life goals and multiple felonies. After a traffic collision while he was walking home Robert found himself immersed in a lifelike fantasy simulation. Disbelieving that his situation was anything more than a flashback from an acid trip or maybe some laced weed Robert decided to go with the flow and do what his old DM's would never let him do. Craft and sell potions and alchemical supplies with a more recreational objective! As he attempts to make his vision of being a fantasy land Drug Lord come to fruition he begins to question his self-understanding and the concept that maybe what everyone was telling him wasn't horse dung, that this was real, and this was his life now. Did he really want to live it the same way as his old one?-Authors note: This is my first attempt at web fiction, I appreciate honest feedback as the story develops. Thanks for reading!
