The entire room of crooks and lowlifes gaze at the pile of rubble that is covering their seemingly defeated boss in disbelief.
Tina: Did he just…
Tina looks completely speechless. Dean looks impressed and proud of the fellow human’s victory.
Dean: Well, I don’t know what he did to pull that off, but thank Haven he pulled that off.
Chelsea and the girls are in complete shock. Chelsea looks back at Kenjiro.
Chelsea: Who is this man? Is he even human?
Yanni, a twelve year old Veguhl boy, races into the room and notices the pile of rubble.
Yanni: What happened here?
Chelsea slowly rises to her feet.
Chelsea: Yanni! Over here, now.
Yanni: What is it Mother? And where’s Monsoon?
Tina: Why does that little boy look so familiar?
Chelsea embraces Yanni tightly.
Yanni: Gee Mom, not in front of everybody.
Chelsea: We may have to go son.
Yanni: Go where? Why? Hey look at what I swiped today Mother! It’s a fancy mod!
Yanni reveals a beautiful amber-colored mod from his dirty, oversized jacket.
Dean: Say don’t you have a mod just like that one Tina?
Tina: Yeah, I wonder what poor fool lost their mod.
Dean: By the way, have you been noting down everything that’s happened so far, right? You definitely don’t want to miss any details for this story.
Tina: Huh? …Oh my god…
Tina facepalms.
Tina: I was so absorbed into the action that I completely forgot to jot down everything.
Dean: Don’t worry about, it’s hard for one to forget a spectacle like this. That Zoh-Gyn down there sure is something else.
Dean notices Tina fidget around her pockets for something. Her constant moving loosens the vent they’re leaning on.
Dean: What are you doing Tina? You’re going to break the vent if you keep that up.

Tina: I can’t find my mod. Did I give it to you?
Dean: Of course not.
Chelsea: Yanni, how many times do I have to tell you not to steal? Especially from our own kindred.
Yanni: But it wasn’t a Veguhl this time. It was some ditzy human strumpet. They seemed to have plenty of money to go around so I didn’t think they would miss it.
Chelsea sighs. Yanni notices Kenjiro, who is sheathing the Ogre Blade, and drawing out the Torqued Katana.
Yanni: What’s that human doing here, Mother?
Tina and Dean freeze upon hearing Yanni’s words. Tina adopts an angry face.
Tina: That little troublemaker! I remember him now, it was him! He took it!
Tina bangs the vent in rage, causing it to give and the two reporters fall into the warehouse below and land on a pile of crates. Tina lands on Dean’s back
Tina: Ow, that really hurt.
Dean: You’re telling me.
Everyone notices and several of the Veguhl henchmen aim their pistols at them, including Yanni.
Evona: More humans? Where did they come from?
Tina and Dean look alerted and lift their hands up in surrender. Chelsea quickly snatches the gun from Yanni’s hand. Tina notices and immediately forgets about everything else.
Tina: Hey, you little thief!
She stomps over to Yanni.
Dean: Tina! What are you doing?!
Tina: Look boy, that’s my mod you have there! Give it back to me!
Tina holds her hand out to receive what is rightfully hers.
Yanni: Look lady I don’t know who you are but, my-my father gave it to me a long time ago.
Tina: Don’t play dumb with me, you took it from me on the street earlier today, and I overheard you saying you stole it just now.
Yanni: No I didn’t!
Chelsea: Yanni!

Yanni halts.
Chelsea: Did you take this mod from her?
Yanni: No!
Chelsea gives him a stern look, and Yanni guiltily averts eye contact.
Yanni: Maybe…
Chelsea: Give the woman back her mod Yanni.
Yanni: But Mother.
Chelsea: Yanni, give it back. I’m not going to tell you again.
Yanni sighs as reluctantly hands Tina her mod with a slight pout.
Tina: Thank you.
Yanni: That could have gone to our debt, Mother.
Chelsea: It’s my debt, not yours Yanni. And besides--
She looks at the pile of rubble, and then at Kenjiro.
Chelsea: My debt may be a thing of the past now.
Yanni: How?
Evona: He, he really defeated Monsoon…
Yanni looks astonished and jolts his head to Kenjiro.
Yanni: Defeated?! You mean that human defeated the great Monsoon?!
Kenjiro smiles. Yanni looks distraught.
Yanni: There’s, there’s no way… no one can defeat the great Demon of the Storm! He’s invincible!
Araceli: Apparently not.
Yanni: But, he’s the only one that can defeat the witches for us!
A loud, raspy, diabolical chuckle can be heard from the rubble. The Veguhl henchmen turn to it with cheerful faces, especially Yanni.
Monsoon slowly rises to his feet.
Monsoon: That was quite an attack human. But unfortunately for you, I still haven’t even warmed up yet.
Monsoon cracks his knuckles and works his shoulders. Kenjiro grimaces as he clutches his katana.

Beyond the Veil
Martin's life would never be the same. He somehow survived a massacre by shady men in black, only to discover they were conspiring with the police. What was he going to do now? But where one life ends, another life begins. One that will learn of magic, and the world beyond the veil. This is a complete rewrite of my first story, The World Beyond the Veil. This is not the same story. Not even a single sentence has been copy-pasted from the original fiction. Readers of the original will recognize a lot of elements, but there are more and more differences as the story progresses. The fiction is planned as a trilogy. The first volume is published. Regarding one of the tags:Sexual Content: There are no explicit sex scenes in the story. On the other hand, it is definitely a story meant for an adult audience, with plenty of references to sex and genitalia. If you're not comfortable with that, maybe steer away from this story. I am very interested in feedback. Let me know if you spot a plot hole or something else that seem off to you.
