Chapter 33: Found You!
Huang Xue continued to travel deeper into the forest at a leisure pace, as if he was taking a stroll in the woods. Along the way, Huang Xue encountered several evil beasts that foolishly attacked him. The end results for them was naturally explosion to death from a tap of his fan.
He had hid his aura the entire time so as to not scare off the other freshmen. Even if his destined ones were not present within the group, it did not mean someone worthy would not appear. It’s this sliver of hope and optimistic that had allowed Huang Xue to cultivate up to his level previously!
With that being said, the number of evil beasts who had fell by his fan had racked up to nearly a two hundreds by now! Especially deeper in the forest where the beasts tend to attack in large groups. When a beast was about to die and it would also issue a cry for reinforcement, drawing more evil beasts to Huang Xue. The latter did not bother stopping them.
As such, beasts after afters continue to come and go in spirit the further Huang Xue went.
As Huang Xue neared the end of the forest, three hours have gone by. It has to be said that this forest that was cultivated by the Six Ocean Sect was indeed quite big. Previously, the reason why a few students were able to reach the end of this vast forest after only about two hours was because they had used special aerial magical treasures to do so. Others had immediately rushed towards the end with their full strength, choosing to avoid strong monsters in the forest.
Meanwhile, there were now approximately three hundred and four freshmen following after Huang Xue. A few were even walking directly ten feet behind Huang Xue. By now, Huang Xue’s method of killing evil beasts and leaving their cores untouched had attracted many freshmen.
After all, beast cores were always in demand in the market, and even low quality rank 1 beast cores could fetch at least fifty Qi stones! Not to mention, they could also be exchanged for Contribution Points in the Sect as well.
A few feet north from Huang Xue’s position, a small group of people could be seen confronting a young man in a brown tunic. The youth had a fearful, yet stubborn expression on his face as he looked at his agitators. He had a decent looking appearance, and a faint looking star shaped birthmark could be discerned on his left cheek.
In his right hand, was a leafy stem. Four blood colored berry hanged from the end of stem, covered by the leaves. A strong fragrance and Earthly Qi aura exuded from the blood colored berries!
Standing at the front of the group of six people, was a youth who had an arrogant expression on his face. An air of nobility and confidence exuded from him. This person...was a Yang Chen!
Huang Xue did not care about what was happening a few feet away from him as he trekked on. A large group of cultivators followed behind him. The loud noises of rustling leaves startled Yang Chen’s group as they looked towards Huang Xue’s directions.

An uneasy looked appeared on their face, and even Yang Chen frowned. This large crowd of cultivators following behind Huang Xue made it seem as if they were the white robed youth’s followers…
However, soon they saw that Huang Xue was not coming towards them, but rather continuing on ahead. The large group of cultivators did not dare make eye contact with Yang Chen’s group after they saw the leader. This caused Yang Chen’s group to silently breathe out in relief and at the same time, increased their sense of arrogance.
The brown tunic youth, who had recognized Huang Xue, had a brief look of hope before it was dashed by latter’s indifferent attitude.
Yang Chen looked back at the brown clothed youth with a mocking expression as he said: “Stop wasting this young master’s time! Don’t even think about anyone coming to help you. Hurry up and hand over that stem of Ember Blood fruit! Otherwise, don’t blame me for being ruthless!”
The brown tunic youth frowned as he said in a forced manner: “This Ember Blood fruit was something I found myself. On what basis should I give it you?! Just because I’m from a commoner's family? Did you not know that in the Six Ocean Sect, it doesn't matter which family you hail from, everything depends on your own ability here!”
Yang Chen’s face darkened as he glared venomously at the poor youth. A mere commoner student had actually dared to talk back to him...
Just as Huang Xue was about leave the line of sight from Yang Chen’s group, a faint tremor appeared from Huang Xue’s ring. The white haired youth stopped in his tracks.
Immediately, Huang Xue touched his ring as an ordinary-looking oval stone appeared in his hand. A look of disbelief and excitement could be traced within his face as Huang Xue stared at the stone in his hand.
A reaction from the Star Decree Stone can only mean one thing...his destined one was near!
Before long a faint golden arrow appeared on the surface of stone. A strand of unique, faint aura was also generated from the stone. This was so that it would be easy to differentiate the person Huang Xue was looking for and other normal beings.
Following where the arrow was pointing, Huang Xue slowly traced his steps until he looked up and saw that the arrow had been pointing...towards Yang Chen’s group! An invisible strand of golden aura, only visible to Huang Xue’s eyes, was swirling around Yang Chen’s area...this was the absolute sign of a destined one depicted in the Star Decree Stone!
Huang Xue’s eyes glowed as he began to head towards Yang Chen’s group.
Seeing the white hair youth suddenly approach their direction, Yang Chen’s already dark expression became even uglier as he directed his glare at the former. It was possible that the other party had noticed the Ember Blood fruit in the tunic youth’s hair and had come over to struggle over for it.
But it doesn’t matter.
With his family background and the huge power that was backing him, Yang Chen believed that even if that Shen youth was strong, he would still give some face for him!

As Huang Xue came closer, he slightly position himself in the center a few feet away from the two parties. Subtly glancing down at his stone, Huang Xue saw that the gold arrow was pointing in the direction of...Yang Chen!
Huang Xue’s eyes lit up as he softly muttered to himself: “I’ve...found you!”
Right after, the stone stopped its trembling before the aura slowly dissipated.
By now, the group behind Yang Chen had moved several feet away from the latter. This created a large gap that left only Yang Chen and the brown tunic youth standing alone, with Huang Xue diagonally of them in the center.
Huang Xue turned to stare at Yang Chen. “Hmm...this kid looks pretty arrogant. Judging by the way he had carried himself just a few moment ago, and that dirty look he’s giving me...haha, his personality must be equally cruel and hard! Just the way I want it!” He thought gladly in his heart.
The poorer the character, the easier it would be for Huang Xue manipulate them. It’ll make it simpler for him to carry out the final stages of his ‘plan’ in the future as well...
Then, turning around to face the brown tunic youth, Huang Xue calmly said: “Little brother, since brother Yang Chen seems so desperate for that Ember Blood fruit, why not give it to him this time?”
Silence.
The surrounding cultivators’ eyes went wide as they stared at Huang Xue in disbelief. Even Yang Chen had a surprised look on his face when he heard Huang Xue. A mocking smile slowly appeared on his face as he looked back at youth who had spoken out against him. He did not expect the latter had come over to help him.
However, the most shocked was still the brown tunic youth. His eyes went as large as a saucer when he heard Huang Xue’s words. He could even feel a bit of an aura coming from the white robe’s body, subtly suppressing him!
“Fudge! Did these two bastards team up just to rob me?!” The tunic clothed youth cursed in his mind as he stared at the stem in his hand.
With his first stage of Jie Hai realm cultivation, he was completely unable to cope against a mid-staged Jie Hai cultivator, much less another late-staged one!
Suddenly, before the poor young man could react, he felt the wind picked before the Ember Blood fruit blurred in his hand. Two pieces of Qi stone then replaced it in his hand. The tunic robed youth looked up just in time to see Huang Xue turning away from him, a conspicuous stem with blood colored berries in his hand!
Huang Xue walked over to Yang Chen before he handed the fruit over to latter. With a smile, Huang Xue said: “Brother Yang Chen, take this stem of Ember Blood fruit as a gift from me. With its medicinal properties of increasing your blood floor and strengthen your bodily functions, it’ll be very helpful to your cultivation! As an advice, you should absorb the Earthly Qi around you continuously for five more days before you consume these Ember Blood berries. This way, your chance of breaking through should increase many times!”
Yang Chen had a wide smile as he received the stem. Looking back at Huang Xue, he likewise spoke in a courteous manner: “Haha, to think brother Huang Xue was such a amicable person! This Yang Chen must have been blind all these years! I’ll have to thank brother Shen for this gift then.”
The brown tunic youth looked at the two chatting happily away as he gnashed his teeth in hatred, especially at Huang Xue who had directly snatched away his precious fruit! After a while, he could only sigh in helplessness as he turned to leave; a dangerous light glowed within his eyes. The star shaped birthmark on his left cheek subtly shone with a purple light for a brief moment before returning to normal.
Yang Chen saw the tunic youth was leaving, and his eyes flashed a malicious light. Just as he was about to tell the boy to stop and pay for his disrespect, Huang Xue slightly stepped in front of him and said: “Brother Yang Chen, let us hurry to the end of this forest. Don’t lower yourself to the level of this minor people.”
Yang Chen stopped and frowned as he pondered for a while. Turning back to Huang Xue, he gave a nod in agreement and began to head away. Huang Xue smiled faintly as he followed after them, chatting with Yang Chen along the way.
If this was before, Yang Chen would have disregarded Huang Xue’s words due to his arrogance. But seeing that Huang Xue had actually seemed to be wanting to befriend him, and had even gifted him the Ember Blood fruit, he decided to let the matter rest. It truly wasn’t worth arguing with the little people after all.
The hundred cultivators and Yang Chen’s small group of people looked at the leaving two with shock in their eyes. To think Huang Xue who had a higher cultivation than Yang Chen would choose to help the latter and suppress another student...the meaning behind his action had been made obvious to the crowd of cultivators.
It seems now this Yang Chen would not only have the protection of his major clan...but the help of a new core disciple of the Six Ocean Sect as well!
Meanwhile, as the cultivators in the surrounding dispersed, a peaceful silence returned back to the area. Suddenly, at the same spot that Yang Chen had been standing, the air blurred for a moment before a youth in plain gray robe appeared. In his right hand, he held a black object that resembled a Bagua Mirror.
(Note: example of “Bagua mirror”)
If the thirteenth elder was here to see this youth, he would recognise this person to be that same boy he tested at the end of the Sect examination a month ago: Luo Ke!
However, the boy right now did not have the original innocent look that was displayed before the thirteenth elder. A cold look gleamed in his eyes as Luo Ke looked in the direction where Yang Chen and Huang Xue had left...

A Fractal Divide
Lesivar is a city in ascendancy. With recent innovations in magical crafting, the common people are experiencing a boom in comfort and wealth. The nobility, long used to being the stewards of knowledge and power, struggle to adapt to the new world in which they find themselves. A precarious balance has been maintained throughout, but forces stir beneath the surface threatening to send the city spiraling into chaos. This is my first attempt at writing anything longer than a short story, and I welcome any feedback or corrections. I'm posting this as I write, with each chapter going live upon completion. My current pace is about a chapter a day, which I expect to take my through the end of November. From there, I'm shooting for a chapter every two-three days until the book is completed, along with an editing pass of what is already up. I'm planning on three POV characters with unique insight into the story as it unfolds. Each chapter will contain only one POV. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
