《The Dark Elto Du Yu Lin》Chapter 4: Yu Lin's Chi Center

*Author's Note: Pretty long chapter. Enjoy!
Yu Lin was still writing recipes of cures, and pills on the piece of paper with the paint her mother gave her. She was writing in a writing system that she came up with herself. This was because she didn’t want her researches about healing to leak out to the wrong people. She had created hundreds of pills, and potions to help strengthen one’s body and if those recipes went into the wrong hands then hell would break loose. Instead she created a whole writing system where only she could understand.
As she was writing she heard her mother ask the question she herself was afraid of. As a healer she already knew that her being born half dark elf, and half troll was already an impossible feat. The past three years that has passed she could feel her chi energy growing, and each day she was frightened that something will go wrong. Yu Lin’s fear forced her to practice The Eight Forms of Yin and Yang and chant the Shan Clan’s Energy Balance Technique.
The Eight Forms of Yin and Yang was a martial arts form similar to that of Tai Chi. It helped balance the state of mind to become one with the body. The Shan Clan’s Energy Balance Technique was used to train the chi center to form harmony with the body. Yu Lin learned these in her previous life because her chi center got shattered. She did recover however her chi center was not the same and she learned these techniques to help her regain her power. Her chi center never went back to how it originally was however she did manage to improve her health and physique.
Yu Lin figured that by using these techniques, she may be able to stabilize the conflicting energies growing within her body. Her body also grew slowly grow stronger the more she practiced these techniques. Of course she only practice when her parents were deep asleep.
Yu Lin slowed her hand down to listen to her father’s reply. She was expecting her father to say that they would abandon her for being weak, as trolls usually did to their young, however when she heard what her father said she was touched. A tear slipped out of her eye and she wiped it away before her parents notice. She continue to write down the recipes she remembered. She knew her memorization skills were incredible compared to others however she didn’t want to risk losing anything.
After dinner Yo Mei had Chou washed the dishes as she picked up her daughter. She took her daughter out to buy necessities. Although Glorious Forest village was not very glorious, it was nonetheless beautiful. The village was surrounded by tall trees and a big river. Before Chou and Yo Mei came the village suffered from floods all year long. They lost many houses and it was difficult to navigate through the village. After the two arrived, they introduce the idea of building a dam to help with the floods. After the construction of the dam, the village flourished with their economy with neighboring villages. Some villagers didn’t like the idea of a dark elf and troll living in their village, however they could not say anything because the Chief of the village welcomed the two.
Yo Mei carried Yu Lin in one hand, and a basket in the other. She also wore a hood to conceal her white hair. The older villagers knew what she was and welcomed her, however the kids were still scared of her. Yo Mei also tucked Yu Lin’s hair under a cap before she took her out shopping. Normally Yo Mei would leave Yu Lin at home but she wanted Yu Lin to see the village.

Yu Lin had a smile on her face. She had never seen such a beautiful scenery before. She was astonished by the music, the clothes, and the nature surrounding the village. When she was Hu Die she only ever saw big cities, and even on her adventures she didn’t see a lot of nature. Part of this was due to the fact that she only ever travelled in the Sky Continent, and the other part was that even if she did travel, she did not travel far from the capital.
Yo Mei was happy to see Yu Lin have such a big smile on her face. She wasn’t sure if her daughter was going to like going out of the house or not. Yo Mei was happy that her daughter was not crying or throwing a tantrum like she did when she was younger when she was forced to go out. Yo Mei continue her grocery shopping as Yu Lin continue to observe their surroundings.
“Mrs. Du.” Yo Mei heard someone call her. She looked up to see a tall, white haired man with a long white moustache approach her. The man had a gentle smile on his face with his moustache falling to down below his chin. The other villagers bowed to the man with respect before going on with their business.
“Chief Chu.” Yo Mei bowed her head down to greet the Chief of the village. Yo Mei was not a person who bowed her head down to anyone to be polite. She was a 8th Ranked Master Swordswoman. She only bowed her head down to the people who earned her respect
“How are you today?” The Chief asked with a gentle expression as if he was looking at his own daughter.
“I am good. Thank you for your concern.” Yo Mei gave him a smile. The Chief let out a laugh.
“It’s no problem. I have to take care of all my villagers, especially you and Chou who has given so much to my village.” The Chief reached into one of his sleeves and pulled out a bundle of roots. “Here, use this when you need it.” He handed the bundle of roots to Yo Mei. Other villagers saw what he had and their eyes were full of envy.
Just by the appearance alone both Yo Mei and Yu Lin could tell that the roots were Kula roots. Kula roots were only found in the Beast continent and had great uses. The roots could help one breakthrough to another level within consumptions. The roots helped refine the chi center, and harmonized it with the body. This root was very valuable and difficult to obtain if one didn’t live in the Beast continent.Yo Mei and Yu Lin knew that the Chief gave this to help with Yu Lin’s body. Yo Mei knew how much this root could help Yu Lin, but Yo Mei was not a greedy person.
“I cannot accept this Chief Chu. You have already done so much, welcoming my family to the village.” Yo Mei refused the Kula roots. Yu Lin looked at her mother and respected her decision, not feeling sad or disappointed. Yu Lin knew that her mother in this lifetime was an intelligent and wise woman.
“Please take it Mrs. Du. My village would not be here today without you and your husband, this is the least I can do for you.” Chief Chu said as he forced the roots into Yo Mei’s hand. He was very knowledgable and knew of their difficulties. Chief Chu felt very thankful towards the couple because he was at a lost at what to do until they came. He thought about building a dam to guard against the floods but he did not have the manpower to do what he wanted, and he had never built a dam before so he was did know exactly how to make one. When the two came, they both contributed most to the dam. At first Chief Chu was wary of them however because of their deeds he had come to like them, even looking at them like they were his own children. Yo Mei eyes widen before they soften.

“Thank you Chief Chu.” She bowed her head.
“Raise your Mrs. Du, compared to what you have done to help my village this is nothing.” Chief Chu said. Yu Lin couldn’t help but feel happy inside. Even though she was practicing techniques to help her, she knew that the Kula roots would benefit her greatly. Yo Mei also felt very thankful for she was worried for Yu Lin’s health.
“If you ever need my service feel free to request.” Yo Mei said with determination. Chief Chu smiled, before turning his attention to Yu Lin. Chief Chu was a knowledgeable man who was well respected by all the Chiefs from the neighboring villages. He was a 9th Ranked Grandmaster Free Style Fist Martial Artist.
“Is it alright if I hold your daughter?” He asked carefully in case Yo Mei got offended. He knew elves were very protective of their young and usually didn’t let anyone hold their young, even close relatives. Yo Mei however, was different from other elves.
“Yes Chief Chu.” She replied as she handed over Yu Lin. Chief Chu held Yu Lin with his right arm.
“Hello pretty one. What is your name?” Chief Chu said slowly to Yu Lin.
“My name is Du Yu Lin.” Yu Lin replied. Chief Chu was shocked at how good Yu Lin’s pronunciation was but he just assumed it was because she was a different race. Elve’s were known to learn things faster than humans. What he didn’t know was even Yo Mei was slightly shocked. Yo Mei never heard Yu Lin speak much and didn’t expect her to learn the human language already. She thought Yu Lin would be confused because Yo Mei and Chou talked to her mostly in the Elf or Troll language.
“You speak very well for your age Yu Lin.”
“Thank you.” Yu Lin smiled. Inside she was nervous for she forgot for a second that she was only three years old. ‘Got to be more careful’ she thought to herself.
“How do you feel Yu Lin?”
“I feel good.”
“Do you feel hurt anywhere?” Chief Chu smiled at Yu Lin. Yu Lin shook her head and smiled innocently at the Chief. The Chief let out a gentle laugh. From holding Yu Lin alone he could feel that Yu Lin’s chi energy was not in any danger. Instead he felt that Yu Lin actually had a strong and balanced chi energy. He put on three middle fingers onto Yu Lin’s stomach to analyze her chi center. Yu Lin wanted to resist against him because she was scared he might find out she was different however she didn’t have much of a choice.
‘Let me check to see if anything is wrong with her.’ Chief Chu thought. He forced a tiny bit of his energy inside Yu Lin to analyze her chi center. He closed his eyes for concentration. Yo Mei was also curious at what Yu Lin’s chi center seemed like however she could not check because her chi energy was not a neutral chi energy, like yellow chi energy. ‘Please let it be fine.’ She prayed silently. Chief Chu’s jaw dropped as he gaped down at Yu Lin.
“This… I have never seen anything like this.” Chief Chu exclaimed aloud. Some of the villagers turned to look at the Chief.
“What is wrong? Is there something wrong with my daughter?” Yo Mei’s face was full of worry. Chief Chu looked up at Yo Mei with a smile on his face. He was about to speak before he realized that too many eyes were on them. He closed his mouth and then leaned towards Yo Mei.
“Let us go to your home to speak. There are too many eyes and ears here.” He whispered to Yo Mei. Yo Mei nodded her head and the two hurried back.
Chou was cutting firewood when he heard footsteps approaching his home. He turned around to see his beautiful wife heading towards him.
“Honey!” He called out sweetly. His expression then change as he saw the Chief behind his wife. He bowed his head.
“Greetings Chief Chu.” He said in a deep voice.
“Hello there Mr. Du. Leave this work for now and head inside with your wife and I. I have some very important news to tell you regarding your daughter.” Chief Chu said as he headed inside the house with Yo Mei. Chou gaped as he saw them run into the house. It took him a second to get himself together as he quickly dropped the axe and headed inside.
Yo Mei rapidly served Chief Chu some green tea before sitting down. Chief Chu was still holding Yu Lin in his arms as he sipped the green tea. Yu Lin was afraid that something was wrong with her, but the look on Chief Chu’s face her fear faded away. Chief Chu waited for both Chou, and Yo Mei to settle down before he set down his cup of tea.
“What do you need to tell us Chief? Is something wrong with our daughter?” Yo Mei trembled, fear running through her body. Although Chou was also afraid he felt that he needed to be strong for Yo Mei. He grasp Yo Mei’s palm trying to calm her down.
“What is the news you need to tell us Chief? Whether it is good news or bad news regarding our child, we will both face it with courage.” Chou declared. Yo Mei looked at her husband and her fear slowly faded away.
“My husband is right. Whatever you have to tell us we will face it with courage.” Yo Mei placed her other hand on top of Chou’s hand. Chief Chu was touched by their bravery, however he didn’t want to stall any more time.
“Mr. Du and Mrs. Du, do not fear I bear good news regarding your child.” Chief Chu smiled at them. Chou and Yo Mei sighed in relief. They were both ready to hear the worst so hearing this they couldn’t be more happy.
“What is it? What is the good news?” Chou asked enthusiastically. Chief Chu smiled.
“As I was examining your child’s chi center I found a different type of energy. Usually energy comes in three different colors blue, red, and yellow. We all know that blue and yellow can mix, but red should never mix with either for it could bring chaos. I was looking for the two different energies in your child because usually when blue and yellow mix they will have two different energies in one chi center. I was looking for blue and red chi energy in your daughter when I examined her chi center but what I found was astonishing.” Chief Chu looked away and paused for a second trying to think of a way to name it. Chou and Yo Mei’s eyebrows rose.
“What did you find?” Yo Mei asked. Chief Chu turned his head slightly before looking back at them.
“I didn’t find any blue, red, or yellow chi energy. Instead I found a different type of energy,” Chief Chu leaned in. “I found a purple colored energy.”

Two And A Half Deadmen
Silver-Spruce is a very strange and very haunted town. Ghosts inhabit its buildings and walk its streets. Some of them friendly and sane. Some of them not so much. Alder helps ghosts. Helps them fulfill their last requests so they can move on to whatever comes next. Sometimes the ghosts aren't so friendly and have to be moved on by force. Alder does that as well. And he's gotten rather good at it too. After a particularly rough exorcism, he finds himself following a strange ghost to a local tourist attraction. And while Alder never means to find himself caught up in chaos, monsters, magic, and mayhem always seem to have a way of finding him. You want more specifics for what you're reading? Here you go: This is Urban-fantasy but a little bit of a different spin. Often the protagonists in such stories tend to be the bigger fish in their world, or at least far from small fry. Be they legendary boogie men or badass wizards (which is in no way a bad thing, I love a lot of those stories.) But I thought it would be fun to have a protagonist who's far closer to the bottom end of the scale. He has some magic, and it's potent in its own way. But he isn't the big dog or a fighting machine. Outside of his bubble of influence, our protagonist is essentially a normal human as far as powers are concerned. And while you should be warned that this story will get dark in some places it's (hopefully) balanced out by humor and the lighter stuff. I'm not sure how to end this synopsis section so I'll just say bye. Bye!
