My stats were pretty dang good.

*shink* My blade ran through guts like butter. That was good, too. I place my marker on his head with a tap. This man was already dead, and he didn’t even know it.

“PLEASE! Don’t do this! You’re a mad woman!” He flung himself out the window with a loud crash, and I heard a squishy thump a few moments later. I walk to the window to see him limp slowly away from the building as his leg repaired itself. I don’t like it when they heal. I don’t like it at all.

I spun my hooked blade on the tip of my finger and watched him flee like the coward he is.

“Where do you think you’re running off to? Warning your friends? I don’t,” I let my humming blade fly free. “THINK SO.”

I throw another of my many fascinating cutting implements for good measure. It is a thick weighted blade for… well, you’ll see.

The spinning hook chased the man down. I let the pull weaken, causing it to drop a little and embed itself into his leg. I pull the blade with him attached like a fish on a line. He stumbled and shot a look back towards me. He doesn’t see me; all he sees is the glint of heavy steel before his life was cut short.

A steamy energy rose from his body, and I watched as the gray mist slowly trails towards me. I shudder with pleasure as his life force gets added to my own.

“No level up? I guess I’ll have to find the rest of them.”

“Hey, Jim, how’s the wife?”

“She’s doing great. A little morning sickness now and ag-ACK” Jim felt a blade slowly slip into his heart.

“Founder’s fuck, what is wro—” The other man cried out in distress as what he saw sunk in. It was a mixture of a cat yowl and a whimper as he saw the blood-soaked woman pressing her steel into his friend’s back. He lowered his hands to his gun, but it was far too late.

With a hollow thunk, a blade careening from nowhere embedded itself deep into the back of his skull. He wobbled for a second before the strings of life were cut and he fell limp like a sack of potatoes.

A radio crackled on one of the men’s vest. “Hello? Status report! We heard shouting on our side! Are you okay?”

I ripped the device from its hook and whispered a warning to the fodder on the other end, “I will bring Death to all of you.”

“Who is this? Fuck you! We won’t—”

*Kssskt* I crushed the radio underfoot before I heard anything else.

The men across the way were in chaos. She watched them scatter from the scout's nest she currently occupied. She sipped on the life that her newest kills provided as she watched them scurry around like ants.

“I want to kill more people faster. Yet, I am not looking for my own death. What do I do? There are far too many people to kill by hand.”

I tsked with disappointment. “But it’s so fun to kill by hand. What should I do? What should I do?”

A grin slips itself onto my face as I see men storming my building. “Seems like they decided to come for me!”

Within a matter of minutes, I heard them rounding the corner. Doors cracking off their frame echoed down the halls as they searched each room one-by-one.

*Bang*

“Clear.”

*Bang*

“This one’s clear, too. Check that one down the hall!”

*Bang*

Two men stormed my room, checking the blind spots immediately with their flashlights. They tremble at the sight of the dead men, laser sights on their rifles dancing as they see the pools of blood going cold as the red liquid touches the wintery air.

“Fuck, what happened?”

“I happened.” They turned to look for the voice as I dropped from the ceiling. I slammed my hooked blade into the first man’s throat from behind. The raider watched in horror as his friend shot a stream of blood from his mouth. I pull the point cleanly through his spine. The man couldn’t see the black form behind the decapitated man but he went to shoot anyway.

I see him raising his gun towards me, and I suddenly have a revelation. Raising my arms to welcome Death, I will receive it. I am the Death Attractor. I can push and pull on Death at will. My blades are just a physical form of what I have always been able to do. With this new insight, I watch the world’s texture change. I see where Death lies. I see the spray of Death preparing to launch itself from the barrel of his gun, and I smile because it will not hit me.

*Brattatata*

New Skill Acquired: Predict Death:

Through embracing Death, it can no longer surprise you. You can push and pull on the strings of fate and now know when Death is in the air.

A series of flashes fill the room, and I get a wave of pleasure seeing the man’s face contort in terror as his gun fails to bring Death to me. I try to close the distance and see a smear of Death streak towards my face. I roll my head as the man’s hand whips out and cuts the air with a crack, white aura flowing like serrations along flattened fingers. I return the favor with a blade of my own.

“You almost got me with that.” I laugh. I don’t know who I’m talking to, because he’s already dead. I shudder as the energy enters me. “The strong ones are always the b—”

The hair on the back of my neck prickles as I see beams of Death come from the wall by the doorway. I jump and roll, gravitating to the ceiling as bullets pierce the drywall where I once stood. From my spot on the ceiling I leap, pulling myself toward the door, diving over the frame like a short wall.

“She’s on the ceiling!” A few shots miss me as I send a humming blade into the nearest man. I drop down and tap his chest, placing a marker on it. With a little bit of focus, I attract him to the ceiling at just the right amount to suspend him like meat on a hook. I send him sliding down the hall towards the men.

Some panic, opening fire on the suspended corpse while others seem smart enough to aim for me. The armor on the man absorbed enough of the hail of Death for me to close the distance. When I am about halfway down the hall, I whirl, slinging my blades in arcs around the improvised corpse cover.

The knives buzzed as they spun in curves towards the men. Most dived away from the boomeranging blades, but one got unlucky and found the blade wedged in his neck. He fell to his knees, choking on blood.

By this point, I was on them, slicing through their ranks like a shredder. Heavy blades punched straight through chest armor as I pulled the blades at full strength through them. Some managed to pull out a trick or two, but a trick or two was never enough. I separated heads from bodies and drove blades into hearts with glee. It was beautiful. A symphony of Death, with my blades as the conductor’s wand.

Eventually, it was done, and I soaked in all the energy with a shivering breath. My eyes danced to the walls where thin lines of red crisscross the plaster in wild curves and spatters. I licked my lips clean. It really was art, wasn’t it?

*cough*

A man laid there, hacking coagulated blood. I frowned. It seemed the slice on this guy was a bit too shallow. I lifted his head, revealing an accordion of sliced throat pulling itself together. I tsked in disappointment.

“Gotta get the brain or heart. Gotta remember that. Healing that fast is so unnatural.” He looked up at me with blood caking his chin. I looked down at him, blood caking everything on me. I grunt as I finish him off.
