《A Mere Fate of Mine》Chapter 6 Beginner Town? (2)

Lucien woke up in the morning. It was amazing he managed to sleep so much on the tree branch, the first night in another world at that
After eating some berries, he started to plan his future. He would practice his skills as walk to the town direction. He had already spotted dozens panam berries along the way. He was quite sure this forest was full of berries so he didn’t need to worry about food.
He climbed down from the tree and started to walk with a normal pace, being careful of his surrounding.
“First, I’ll try magic arrow.”
He lifted up his right hand, aiming at his front, then shouted. “Magic Arrow!”
A weird sensation came from inside his body. It was so weird that he hadn’t had this kind of feeling before. He felt a flow of liquid flowing around his body, gathering to his lifted up hand. Then, a white arrow formed in front of his hand and shot to the front of him.
The arrow was quite slow. Even Lucien felt like he could dodge it. It dispersed into thin air when it hit its target, a tree, leaving only a small burned mark.
The whole process took around 5 seconds. It was unbelievably slow, enough to make Lucien felt hopeless. He couldn’t imagine what would it be like before he got his stats boosted.
“I can’t use it in combat at this rate.” He mumbled. “I need to raise the skill level and my stat. Right, I still have some free stats left.”
There were 5 free stats and 5 magic stats he could use. The magic stats could only be allocated to intelligence, wisdom and control. He increased all those three by one while casting magic arrow each time he added those stats, feeling the differences. He wanted to figure out the benefits getting from each of them.
After another 3 magic arrows, he came into to conclusion. Intelligence gave him 4 mana points and 0.5 mana regen. It also increased his magic damage. Although it’s hard to see from the burn mark, he could feel that the output of the second one was higher.
Wisdom gave him 1 mana point and 1.5 mana regen. It also shorten his spell casting time and speed of the arrow. Lastly, control didn’t give him any mana or mana regen. It felt intangible but as the name said, Lucien would be able to control his spell better like direction, range precision and aiming.
In addition, his magic arrow leveled up.It increased the overall performance of a skill, including power, speed and casting time.
“Skill level and stats synergize with each other. Although it is easier to level up a skill than to get stats and skill level improves overall performance of a skill itself much more, stats affect all skills and every performance of my body.” That’s the conclusion after his experiment.

He decided to add another 2 magic stats on wisdom and control. He felt that shortened casting time and aiming were what he needed rather than power. Even with millions of damage, if he couldn’t the target, that skill was useless.
With his 170 max mana, he could cast magic arrow 14 times to empty his mana pool. Lucien rescheduled his plan and decided to just level up his skill in the forest first before going to the town.
“Oh right, I forgot to check my new title!”
One who Surpasses: All abilities increase by 25% fighting against the opponent with higher league and will also increase by another 25% every league opponent is higher than you.
“Woah! This gonna be a huge boost once my base ability grows up!”
When he used up all his mana, his magic arrow leveled up to 5. He needed to wait around 3 hours to recover his mana so he chose to train his physical skill.
With 5 free stats, he put 3 into endurance and 2 into vitality, increasing his health point and stamina point. Making sure his surrounding was safe, he ran until his stamina emptied out. He only needed to rest for 3 minutes to fill his stamina.
Other than running, he did some push-ups and other basic exercises for 2 hours. He got physical fitness skill from the exercised. Then, he started practicing heavy blow skill. The skill only took 5 stamina per use, much less than magic arrow. Of course, heavy blow was harder to level up. It took him 14 magic arrows to get level to 5 but 30 heavy blows to do so.
Heavy blow increased his power in each blow, no matter if it’s punch, kick, or swinging dagger. Lucien used every positions he could think of to hit the tree. He wanted to familiarize himself with the skill he found useful. He trained heavy blows for 2 hours, forgetting about his magic.
When the sun rose to the middle, Lucien felt mentally exhausted. He couldn’t train anymore so he rested and check his skills and PP.
He got 4 PP from Magic Arrow, 3 from Running, 10 from Physical Fitness, 2 from Dagger Mastery and 12 from Heavy Blow, a total of 31 PP. More than enough to finish Wind Magic Path.
Congratulations! You have gain 1 stats point. You have got Air Burst lv1.
Congratulations! You have completed Wind Magic Path! +10 mana, +5 mana regen, +3 magic stats, +4 mana per level, +1 magic stat per level. You have got 2 skills, Wind Reinforcement lv1 and Gale Manipulation lv1.
“Yes! 3 skills! Look at those stats, this path is so generous!” Lucien jumped in joy and check his new skills.
Air Burst lv1 : Shoot a compressed air ball at target. When hit, the ball will explode. Cost: 20 mana
Advertisement
Wind Reinforcement lv1 : Reinforce your body with wind, increases movement speed of your whole body. Cost: 2 mana per second
Gale Manipulation lv1 : You can manipulate gale.
Lucien suppressed his desire to use new skills and check his path first. He now have 24 PP left and he wanted to invest them. There was a new path available, Basic Physical Fitness Path 0/20. Lucien finished it straight away.
Congratulations! You have completed Basic Physical Fitness Path! +1 endurance, +5 health, +10 stamina, +1 stamina per level
Excluding completion reward, he got a total of 6 stamina, 2 stamina regen, 6 health and 2 free stats. No skill at all.
Now that he knew path could be unlocked from skills, he saved his 4 PP and didn’t choose any path yet. The path he want was, of course, a heavy blow path.
After resting, Lucien spent a whole afternoon training his skills and magic he hadn’t use. He just tried everyone of them.
First, He spent 5 seconds casting light orb spending with 10 mana. A baseball size glowing orb appeared before him. He could move it slowly and it disappeared after 5 minute, doing nothing apart from giving light.
“Sigh, as I thought, useless.”
Then, he started casting mana shield. A thin membrane appeared in front of him. He didn’t how much damage it could take, but it was the only defense skill he had so he decided to train it. Moreover, the skill only required 1 second casting time.
When he tried Paralysis, the system said he need a target so he just skipped it first.
Next, he casted Air Burst. It took him 6 second to cast and 20 mana. The damage was higher than magic arrow but slower and much harder to control. He needed to focus a lot just to make it flew straight.
Wind Reinforcement was not like a magic spell. He didn’t need to cast to activate and it could be toggled on and off. When he use the skill, just like the definition said, he could move faster. It was really useful in both attacking and escaping.
Because the mana drain was too much, he tried to toggle it on and off, using only when attacking. It was hard at first, but after spending an hour controlling it, it became much easier. What surprised him was that the skill level increased explosively. Maybe skill didn’t only level up from repetition?
The increased level in Wind Reinforcement lowered mana cost a bit and quickened the speed. Lucien really anticipated the potential of this skill. He could feel already that this skill would be used a lot in the future.
As for Gale Manipulation, he didn’t want to talk about it. The gale was so weak that he could barely feel any. He would still train it though, because he wished he could make tornado from it.
After using his free stats, Lucien spent the whole afternoon training most of his skills. All of the skill leveled up a bit.
Because Gale Manipulation only used up a bit of mana, he used it to cool his body when he rested.
After the sunset, he climbed onto the tree again. He didn’t go sleeping yet. Instead, he casted light orb, heavy blow and wind reinforcement hitting the tree with dagger.
Only when it was midnight did he stop. He gained a lot from training.
He got 2 PP from magic arrow and magic shield, 7 from heavy blow, 3 from running and dagger mastery, 5 from physical fitness, light orb and gale manipulation, 2 from air burst and a whole 16 from wind reinforcement, a total of 50 PP. He could tell that the higher level his skill gets, the harder for it to level up.
Now he had 54 PP and the heavy blow path 0/30 he wanted was already unlocked for him as the skill levels reached 20. However, he was just too tired so he would complete it tomorrow.
In addition, he was already bored from training already. Although he was happy seeing his skill level increased, it was still boring training for hours. He decided to train once more in the morning and continue his journey to the town.
“good night myself....” mumbled Lucien as he fell asleep.

AND there's plenty of comedy and comedic moments in it but i could only add so many genres. NOTE: I have every intention to finish writing this novel in a proper way. Where the story is going, is clear to me. The image is a concept art of a creature from an online rpg game long forgotten. Text added by me using paint 3d.

Delicate as Glass
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Nuri, an [Assistant Glassworker], only has a single Skill. It’s really not fair. He’s worked in the hot shop his entire life, following in his father’s footsteps after his parents passed away, but he’s stuck. Despite possessing above-average talent as an artisan, he still hasn’t shed his [Assistant] status, gained a second Skill, or even leveled enough to reach the first Threshold. Besides, he’s bored; most days he daydreams of adventure and becoming a hero, or pines for the renown that’s sure to be his if he evolves his Class into a [Master Glass Smith], but nothing ever changes—until suddenly, fate strikes, and nothing is ever the same again. These days, Nuri sees more magic, prestige, and adventure than he can handle as he gets swept up in realm-shaking conspiracies and desperate fights for his life. Maybe a boring life wasn’t so bad after all. Disclaimers: 1) Names were mostly chosen through random generators and aren’t necessarily final. If they seem derivative or boring, blame RNG. 2) Skills, Classes, levels, and the entire system is currently a work in progress; please be kind if it’s not very well fleshed out yet. 3) This is the first full-length novel I've set out to write without a single plot point ready. I had nothing in mind other than a recent visit to a hot shop. Molten glass is pretty awesome. 4) Related, I know much less about glass than I’d like. I did some research, but mistakes are bound to happen. If you have a correction, thanks! Please be polite about it. 5) The prose is my experimental attempt at first-person, present tense. I realize it may not be everyone’s preference, but I hope you’ll give it a try anyway!
