《Goddess of Computation》 chapter13.h

Ada saw that the sign of confusion in Leanne. The girl blinked a few times akin to someone who had to adjust her eyes from a dim room to bright sunshine. She stood up and took a minute to just look and stare at every object.
"Goddess Ada, everything looks beautiful and surreal," Leanne remarked with wonder.
"Beautiful how?" Ada asked curiously.
"I see names and numbers written in the divine tongue on everything except for you and I," Leanne replied.
A thought popped up spontaneously in Ada's mind and left her a bit flabbergasted. Was Leanne seeing the methods and attributes of every object?
"Leanne, tell me what you see there," Ada said and pointed at a cloud above her.
"Goddess Ada, I see the cloud but if I focus on it, I also see the word cloud9901 written on it and a list of words and numbers. Do you want me to go on and tell you the entire list?"
"Yes, Leanne, what does it say? Tell me everything!" Ada exclaimed brimming with excitement. And then she added, "Please stop saying Goddess Ada."
"Ada, I am sorry but this will take a while. There are also many strange symbols besides letters."
"By strange symbols you mean quotes, parentheses, brackets, etcetera?" Ada questioned as she gesticulated the approximate shapes of what she was indicating.
Leanne nodded.
"Skip them when you're telling me what you see but I'll keep that in mind," Ada gestured for Leanne to go on.
The girl squinted and then said, "
boolean divinecloud = 1
int length = 6
int width = 2
int height = 3
float density = 23.7777
float temperature = 75.2
string color = d3d3d3
string shape = fluffy
vector string composition
"
"There are more but the words are harder to read and I have to focus," Leanne said with effort. Ada noticed sweat dripping from her disciple's forehead.
"You can stop, Leanne," Ada said.
Leanne exhaled and sat down. Ada clapped her hands to herself in excitement.
"Leanne, let me test this out. You can rest. Unpause systemhelper."

...
Ada looked at the cloud that Leanne was staring at. She thought:
...
Ada was expecting this but to see it actually change in front of her was still a beautiful sight. The cloud called cloud9901 doubled its width to what was presumably 4 meters and the cloud plummeted to the ground. All this happened suddenly like one of those film scenes where someone just instantly disappears and reappears elsewhere. She quickly paused systemhelper again.
"Simply amazing!" Ada jumped with excitement. "Do you know what you have given me?"
Leanne shook her head.
Previously, Ada had the supremely annoying problem of not knowing what the classes and attributes were of anything. With her intelligence, she could have eventually derived much of the attributes of the cloud but to have that all there was astounding. Leanne probably couldn't manipulate objects like Ada could but combined with Ada's capability, Ada could truly reach goddess potential. Ada felt that she needed Leanne to be close at all times. Explaining coding may be out of reach so Ada decided to explain it the way she felt that Leanne might understand.
"Behind everything in this world except the gods exists a true form. The power I gave you lets you see that true form. There are actually two major powers you have been given. One, you see the true name behind all objects. Here, you have identified this thing you're looking at as cloud9901. That is the true name of this particular thing. Every cloud created separately would have a different name.
The second power you received is seeing the attributes of an object. You are able to see the cloud's size, whether or not it is a divine cloud, its density, temperature and so on.
Knowing the true name of something combined with knowing its attributes allows me to manipulate it."
Silence reigned supreme once again for a bit.
"Ada, thank you for the power, and it does seem amazing but but ...," Leanne stammered and shifted her feet in embarrassment.
"Go on, Leanne."
"Ada, my brain must be lacking sense for most of the symbols are gibberish to me. I feel quite incapable."

"Quite the contrary, you will learn with time. Interpreting the divine language takes some practice," Ada assured her.
"I will learn. Ada, are you able to see this too?"
"I am not able to see this which is why you will be my seer," Ada said after a pause. She thought of lying but this was a secret that she did not feel like she could or would want to keep. The mortals here know that their deities and not omnipotent and do have limitations.
"Goddess Ada, I am more than honored," Leanne said and bowed.
"As my seer, I want you to come with me and identify everything in this palace and outside on the cloud," Ada commanded with authority.
"Yes, Goddess Ada," Leanne bowed again.
"I was kidding. That would take forever and would be extremely boring," Ada chuckled with amusement. "Sorry for teasing you. For future reference, I really don't need to know the exact color or size of that cushion in the corner. More importantly, that exercise or maybe just the transformation seemed to take a lot out of you. How are you feeling?"
"I feel very tired, Ada," Leanne said. "Sleep would be of great comfort."
Ada thought of just setting Leanne's sleep state to be fully rested but she wasn't sure if that would be the healthiest option in the long term. Food was non-existent but beds were abundant. In the future, she would need to find food or create food somehow as well until she could verify that Leanne really wouldn't need food with Ada's status reset. Besides, Ada had much to ponder on in planning for the future and having some time for solitude was a good thing.
"I know you need rest. Take the largest room on the western corridor just down the hall. That is the largest room in the palace. We toured there earlier. That room is now permanently yours," Ada said.
"Goddess Ada, the biggest room in the palace should be your room."
The room was palatial in size and ornateness. It was also extraordinarily comfortable with feather pillows, cushions, oil lamps and comfortable chairs. The bathroom even had a toilet with a primitive plumbing system. If Ada was still human, she would have picked that room. As a goddess though, she felt no physical human needs and she was comfortable anywhere. The only differences were just aesthetic ones. Even sitting or stretching was just due to habit.
"As a goddess, I don't need to sleep or eat. I own this whole place so technically my room is this entire cloud palace. I want you as my seer to take that room. I'll stay here since I have a few things I need to do. Go ahead. Fortunately for you, night has just arrived here."
They both glanced up and saw that the sun has indeed set a short while ago. There was still some light from the last vestiges of dusk. Leanne nodded and left.
However, if she made this "beacon" obvious, the other deities would no doubt immediately realize it as well. If they come knocking right now with ill intentions, Ada was almost certain that she wouldn't be able to handle them on her own. She was stupid earlier in venturing out too soon which almost revealed her presence. Ada sincerely hoped that the humiliated lord and his followers kept their mouth shut. She would need to ask Leanne what would have likely resulted from this incident. Any rumor that could have developed would need to be squashed somehow.
Ada felt sad that she would have to set aside her curiosity to see this world in order to sit in her palace and conceive a solid plan. There was still much she needed to learn from Leanne on the world, especially the politics, religions and histories. Secret conniving, even the good kind, was not her modus operandis and she would have to tamp down her natural impulses.
"What should I do?" she pondered aloud.
