《Goddess of Computation》 chapter10.h

Once they were floating a few hundred feet above the clouds in a region safe from any possible projectiles that could be launched at them, Ada gave Leanne a tour of her palace which would now also be Leanne's new home. The former temple adept marveled at the tapestries hanging on the walls and the rugs on the floor made of fine silk endowed with rich vibrant colors. The subdued colors transitioning in a gradient from light blue to a deep gold on the walls complemented the hanging decorations. There were no sofas and couches since they weren't in the standard library but there were more than sufficient pillows, cushions and other soft fabrics around to place on a chair for reclining. The tables, chairs, stools, nightstands, wardrobes, chests, beds and other furniture items were all of fine material and similarly richly adorned. Some even had precious stones set in the center or along geometric curves.
Ada didn't have to modify much of the default setting to create these luxurious pieces. Their default settings in creation surpassed if not rivaled what Ada has seen in museum exhibits. From what she has read, even a wealthy noble in medieval Europe was lucky enough to have a few chairs. She didn't bother telling her new disciple that the whole place didn't exist ten hours ago. There was a reputation to maintain and not just from the sake of Ada's ego. If Leanne could swear off another deity to follow Ada, there's nothing preventing her from leaving Ada and returning to her old god or goddess. To have Leanne to have faith in her new chosen goddess, Ada was not going to say or do anything which would diminish the appearance of godhood.
The tour took an hour and twenty five minutes with Leanne asking numerous questions on the materials and designs of the objects. Ada didn't know how to answer most of them but she was able to come up something on the fly that sounded quite reasonable to even her own ears. If she could get perfect scores on all her essay assignments in school through sufficient last minute bullshitting, making up stories for a former temple adept wasn't hard. From Leanne's questions, Ada grew curious on what the mortal has seen in the past. She decided to hold off on these questions and many others until they reached the end of their tour.
"Leanne, we are at the end of our tour. Before we sit down where I need to ask you some questions, are you hungry or tired right now?" Ada inquired.
"Goddess Ada, I do feel that I can eat something but I am not especially hungry. I do feel thirsty though. Water would be preferable."
That was something which Ada has been ruminating about in the back of her mind for some time now. How would she provide food and water for her mortal followers? If her cloud was like terrestrial clouds, it should contain water. On Earth, there has been no proven technology to capture water from clouds though there were fog collector technology to capture water from fog. These used large pieces of vertical canvas which naturally condensed water with its large cold contact surface. There were also air wells which were structures or devices that collected water by having air goes through a cooler structure to induce condensation of the air. Though it could work, these technologies would take a while to generate any significant amount of water.

Ada knew that she had no control over the air so she couldn't turn any of that into water. The obvious route was to turn a bit of her Cloud Ada or the palace materials into water but that would mean she would need to turn back any urine or sweat back into its original constituents. In other words, if she wasn't going to slowly lose parts of her property over time, she would have to keep her place as a fully reusable closed system. To Ada, that seemed like it would be a lot of work. Like a flashing light bulb, an idea suddenly lit up in Ada's mind. However, first there was a question she needed Leanne to answer.
"Leanne, do you trust me?"
"Goddess Ada, of course I do," Leanne replied as if that should be obvious.
"I have taken you away from your home and your countrymen. I have caused you to be an outcast who may never be welcome there again and anywhere where people worship your former god. Why would you trust me? Be honest with me here."
There was a brief hiatus. Leanne took a breath before she answered.
"Goddess Ada, you asked me whether I trusted you. I do. You have kept your word and have pursued no ill will towards my people. Whatever consequences my former companions on the ship suffered came purely due to their ignorance and parochial views. They lack the ability to sense the presence of a true goddess and couldn't comprehend that there could be gods they have never heard of.
All this is not to say that I like the situation I am in right now. Do I want to throw away a life that I have known all my life and leave behind my family and friends? Of course not! But, since I chose to pledge my life and my faith to you, naturally, I have to trust you completely. These are words no follower of any deity should say without truly meaning it."
Ada waited for Leanne to continue as she digested the new convert's words. When Leanne didn't continue, Ada decided to speak two profound words.
"I see..."
"Goddess Ada, what do you see?"
"I see I have a follower of true faith. From now on, Leanne, feel free to say whatever you wish to me. Be completely honest at all times and I will have trust in you as well."
"Goddess Ada, I will do that."
"In that case, I would like to try something with you. You're still thirsty right? Are you also hungry?"
"Goddess Ada, I feel quite thirsty and also a little hungry."
"Rest assured. If this works, you'll feel much better. Can you just sit at that chair next to this table and rest for a bit? I need to meditate to do this," Ada replied with a small smile as she pointed at an ornately wooden chair next to the large marble oval table.

Leanne found the chair and sat down. Ada sat down as well on an equally ornate chair placed on the other side of the table. Then she muttered, "Unpause systemhelper."

There was a yelp of surprise from Leanne.
"Leanne, do you feel better?" Ada asked after she did her usual pause systemhelper routine.
"Goddess Ada, your meditation worked. I feel no hunger or thirst. I have never felt this satiated before."
"The powers of a goddess at work here. Now, do you feel tired?"
"Goddess Ada, the last hour has proved to be quite strenuous and nerve-racking."
"I'm going to take that answer as both physically and mentally exhausted. Before I continue, is there anything else that is bothering you?"
"Goddess Ada, I was not sure if you wanted to hear this but ..."
"Leanne, complete honesty remember? I want to help you here."
Leanne put her finger on her lips expressing indecision. Ada waited for a few seconds. With no change in the girl's posture, Ada grew annoyed.
"Can you please just talk? The suspense is killing me."
"Goddess Ada, suspense can kill you?"
"Obviously, a saying since I can't die," Ada replied while successfully avoiding rolling her eyes. If this girl was going to be her disciple, she needed to learn not to take things too literally. "But really, Leanne, can you please just say what's on your mind? I won't judge you."
"Goddess Ada, as you may know, we mortals believe there are 12 gods and goddesses that watch over us. Most people outside of the temples believe that these are the only 12 deities in the world. I know there are others but since they rarely interact with the mortal realm, I don't know who they are. Goddess, since you do not seem to have a presence in any of the temples that I recognize, I believe that you are one of the others."
"Excellent deduction skills, Leanne. I am indeed a goddess which you mortals have yet to know," Ada said. "Who do you think I am?"
"Goddess Ada, that is the question I have not yet ascertained. If I was given a holy gift from you, I would have a much better idea," Leanne replied and then hastily added abashedly. "Not that I am demanding anything. I am honored to serve you whether or not I am blessed."
"What was your previous gift and goddess?"
"Goddess Ada, my previous goddess was Ayula, the Goddess of Life, and I was blessed with the gift to be able to sense and identify all life up to several miles away from any temple dedicated to Ayula. This is how I knew you were a goddess. Since pledging my faith to you, I have lost this blessing."
"And your ability to speak the divine tongue?"
"Goddess Ada, I was blessed with the ability to understand and speak the divine tongue from birth. I do not know who gives this gift but I suspect it is not one of the twelve."
"Going back to earlier, what I'm hearing is that you're feeling strange since you have lost your superpower of long range detect life."
"Goddess Ada, I don't know what a superpower is. I can assuredly say that from the moment I pledged my faith to you, I lost the power bestowed to me by Goddess Ayula. I have grown so used to this blessing that I cannot help but feel like a blind man right now."
"Leanne, I am sorry that it may feel like someone suddenly stabbed your eyes. Rest assured. As a special chosen one, I will bless you with one of the greatest of my powers," Ada said solemnly. "But not at this moment. I have to understand you more to give you a suitable blessing."
And because I have no idea how to give anyone powers, Ada thought to herself.
"Goddess Ada, I understand."
"Good! Let's get rid of your fatigue for now. This won't take long."
With the familiarity from recent practice, Ada took only half a minute to set Leanne's fatigue to 0. SetFatigue(0) worked perfectly and she was happy to see Leanne exclaim in gratitude and wonder. Now that Leanne was both mentally and physically well-rested, Ada decided the time for questioning would continue.
"Leanne, this may take a while but since you're no longer tired, thirsty or hungry, I think we can do this."
"Goddess Ada, is there something important we need to do?"
"Yes, Leanne. Having information is very important right now. I need to understand this world and I know you have at least some of the answers."

Numbers Continually Going Upward
The world has very politely ended in the most webfiction way possible. Everyone is now leveling up in various things. Problems are arising. Some or all of those problems may be based around how to have a community barbeque when the nearest cow has been teleported to a few thousand miles away, along with the nearest supermarket. Join our protagoinst as he attempts to be a cool person, while everything falls apart. _____It turns out that any attempt to write a parody of the litrpg genre through overuse of the concept of leveling up inevitably fails when it turns out that *that is what the genre is based on*. Still, this was a fun little candy project of mine, and I might write more of it.
