《WTF I'm a Dungeon!? (Dropped)》List of changes and how to get your own character!

Hello and welcome to this author's 'rant' about how I plan to change/improve/rewrite my novel. Feel free to read through it if you want, if you're only here to get your own character then you can just skip to the end.

Now then how should I begin? Well, let's start with the main reasons I'm doing this rewrite. Have you guys ever made something? E.G. a drawing, a custom lego thing or story? Well then you may or not have experienced this but its when you look at something you made until you hate it. It's the main reason your youngest brother is always your parents favorite because they aren't sick of his shit yet. Fucking Tommy.

Well, currently I'm suffering this in terms of my novel. And if I were to rate it as it is currently then I would give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. Remove bias and the fact that I laugh at my own jokes then that number is further bumped down to a 2 or 2.5 if I'm generous. This is based on my own rating system which ranks the worst to best novels I have read and it is by no means a perfect rating system.

Also, there have been a lot of good dungeon novels that have been surfacing recently. Excluding the obvious juggernaut that is There is No Epic Loot Here, Only Puns. There are also some other pretty good dungeon novels, Pink Dungeon, The Dungeon Calls for a Sage and Dungeon Core/Realm Heart all come to mind and I completely expect them to overtake me soon if not already, so I gotta put up a decent fight at least before those three overtake me.

Basically, I'm Leonardo DiCaprio saying: "This ship is completely unsinkable and even on the impossibly low chance that it did sink, there are enough lifeboats to get out safely and even if there aren't enough lifeboats I could just share a piece of driftwood or something with someone else and float to safety!" Before boarding the fucking Titanic. I never actually watched that movie come to think of it.

I by no means think that my novel is a good novel. Which is why I am actually fucking stunned that this novel, which I rated so poorly actually has a 4-star rating, 650 followers, and 3600 average viewers. There are so many better novels on this site that are still stuck in the 300 average viewers and yet here I am sitting with literally 12 times that amount. Either I'm getting trolled by bots or I am doing something right. I'm 80% sure it's my constant releases since I see other novels that have higher quality than mine yet are still struggling because of low releases. Or maybe you guys actually are bots? I mean only 15 of you guys usually comment and I have only gotten one review so far. Hmmmm.

Well, I guess in the end quantity does beat quality? But on the off chance you guys are all bots then:

01000110 01110101 01100011 01101011 00100000 01101111 01100110 01100110 00100000 01100111 01101111 00100000 01110100 01110010 01101111 01101100 01101100 00100000 01100001 01101110 01101111 01110100 01101000 01100101 01110010 00100000 01101110 01101111 01110110 01100101 01101100

But just because that you guys might be bots and I'm actually only talking to only 20ish people doesn't mean that I shouldn't try to improve!

And that is the main reason I want to rewrite my novel. Now onto the problems I see.

Dungeon Building Changes, A DP store, and a Skill Tree

First off, dungeon building. This first part is for you Dungeon Loyalists which I know exist because around 10 of you unfollowed this novel after the arc ended. As a dungeon novel writer, I don't want everything to happen too quickly but I have failed to live up to my dungeon building tag. This is a dungeon building novel yet about 80% of the dungeon building was done in a single chapter over the course of a few weeks utilizing a time skip. I had no real direction when I made this novel so I took the slow route for about 20 chapters and then I thought 30 is a nice number to end the arc with. Which led to this poor pacing.

This problem I believe also stemmed from the fact that the dungeon system I made is not the best, with limited options in day to day dungeon building, but providing a few seemingly meaningful decisions that don't actually do a lot.

A commenter pointed this out and it's one of the main problems with this system and its the fact that if you can only get an upgrade per rank up then you will never be able to unlock everything even you reach the highest rank (10 in my novel). I was thinking of adding a DP store which allows you to purchase lesser versions of the Rank up Bonuses and being able to progressively upgrade those abilities until they reach the full versions using DP.

Perhaps adding a skill tree in the dungeon system which you can spec into for upgradable but weaker versions of the ones obtainable through rank up? Perhaps also being able to get useful passives from this skill tree system, such as giving creatures an X% of Mutating Y trait or an X% Increase in Y element affinity. Creating unique dungeon creatures not through a broken creature creation/editing system but through slowly investing dungeon points in the right places.

Doing this fixes the previous problem of not having a lot to do on a day to day basis. Even if you don't get all your traps through Trap Knowledge you can still purchase them one by one through a DP store. And I don't think anyone has thought of using a skill tree to upgrade dungeon creatures instead of the usual definitely fucking broken creation system.

Quality of Life changes

Grammer checking, spell checking, better explanations, name changing adding those pesky said and shit like that.

This is actually one of the reasons I have such a low rating for my novel, some parts aren't explained properly or well thought out at the time I wrote them. The Prologue was literally completely written on my phone using only autocorrect to fix mistakes and we all know how useful autocorrect is.

Some other quality of life changes are changing Lottery to Gachapon and Forums are closer to chat groups than actual Forums and other stuff like that.

One more thing is that I plan on merging Lesser Dryads and Lesser Ents into a single species that can evolve into both Ents and Dryads. I don't have a name for it yet, so far the best I got is Seedlings or Nature's Scions. Which isn't the best. So if you can give me a good name for this then I will use your name and/or character idea for a disposable side character whom I will tragically kill two sentences after introducing them! I'm joking I'm not going to go Game of Thrones on you guys.

Yet...

More Character development and Goblin getting what he deserved

Also, I'm adding a few more POVs regarding Penny and Goblin. E.g. Goblin getting compelled through the power of contracts to go on a quest to capture the 5 most dangerous herbs in the jungle after he attempted to poison our MC. An epic side story where he sneaks past ancient monsters, running from unstoppable forces all to capture the 5 most valuable herbs in the jungle. I plan on having it happen by having the MC ask Goblin what are the 5 most dangerous herbs to obtain and Goblin responding through classic pridefulness only to have it turned against him. Since so many of you guys want to see him get fucked I think this is the easiest way.

Different POVs with other Reincarnators

Some of you guys won't agree with this but I plan on having multiple POVs and separate storylines with other reincarnated as the focus. I know some/most of you guys won't agree to this, however, let me first present my argument. Name a single Novel with Dungeon Making as its main focus, that has a satisfying ending and does large-scale world building at the same time. Yep even if you do manage to name one I will only use it to improve my own novel! YOUR ARGUMENTS ARE NOW INVALID BUAHAHAHA!

Well now with the jokes out of the way, let me get to the real reason. A lot of you guys have called me creative, which I can only answer with: Thank you but I don't think I'm the kind of creative that can make your classic dungeon novel but with only a slight twist. I feel stifled when only writing about a single POV and single storyline. I'm not really here to write a story anymore. I want to make a world. My plan is to have multiple reincarnators in this story with their own POVs much like Wandering Inn and Kumo Desu Ga, Nani Ka? I would probably be the first dungeon story to feature multiple storylines.

This is useful because I can show this world I imagined, without getting stuck with Dungeon related shit. Having only your entire plot center around a single dungeon in a single obscure kingdom which you don't really get to learn about. I want to use separate storylines to explore different aspects of this world, instead of just Adventuring, Dungeon, Nation Politics and General Public view towards Dungeon cultures. And I sorta made my MC moralless so I can't do a lot of philosophical bullshit either.

I will only start with one, focusing on a reincarnator. The story will involve Human nation Politics, Daily School Life, Class Inequality and an excuse to show appreciation to everyone who comments, since you guys reading it are the reason I'm still writing this story why can't I make you guys be literally a part of the story?

Yes, the characters/names I'm asking you guys to give are for this separate storyline. This idea can either go really great or really bad. I either die with my novel a fool or I succeed as an innovator. Basically a huge risk to my story yet I am determined to attempt it.

This stems from my view that a pure dungeon novel is not suited for worldbuilding, especially in regards to the lower class or daily human life. By the time the dungeon is strong enough to become mobile and explore the world, the little guys sorta end as grass to be mowed or as an annoying trope to say how OP the dungeon is.

I will only have one separate story to begin as a test mostly. It will focus on a reincarnator that was born before our dungeon here and is beginning magic school or some shit like that. This allows me to show a more diverse cast of characters as I will be including people from all walks of life, it gives me a chance to delve into human politics and government, I had the thought of just creating a separate story altogether but one is already driving me slightly insane so I will have to stick with one.

Moving away from my inspirations

You guys could probably guess that I read Experimental Log of the Crazy Lich just from the fact that I copied 2 characters, the setting, the power system etc from that novel. I'm going to be moving away from that somewhat, mainly in the setting department. The whole Order vs Chaos stick works in ELCL but I don't feel like copying that. I'm still gonna use the ELCL power system, just with my own few twists.

Some clues with the next arc

I know that some people think that the next arc will be about the war I hinted through a certain prophecy. However, that is not the case. Wars do not happen at the drop of a hat. Armies don't just appear from nowhere and even an army of devoutly loyal soldiers could take months to gather and prepare. And I would like to remind you that the first arc took over a month in novel time to take place. And most of that time happened in 10 or so chapters. So the next arc will mostly about our MC rebuilding the dungeon, introductions of other dungeons and the slow gradual breakdown and destabilization of foreign relations as the threat of war looms ever closer and closer.

Of course, all of this will happen once I finish the rewrite. The plot will remain the same but there will the additions I mentioned before.

That side character you want to get

Now for the people who skipped all the reading beforehand, here's the TLDR for making your own Side Character.

The side characters are for a storyline separate from the current dungeon, featuring a human noble who attends a certain magic school... Now pitchforks and torches down and you that one guy holding a pitchfork made of torches also put that thing down too. I already explained the details before so I'm just gonna say that this allows me to do more world building without being stuck with a Dungeons POV. Not only that creating a large cast of characters is easily done in a school/class setting.

Now onto how you can do this. I want to make sure that the people who are doing the submissions are the people who actually contribute to my novel, so complete any of the following tasks and then direct message me the idea for your character and I will reserve a spot. Just gonna put it out there that your character may not be the same after going through whatever creative fuckfest that is the contents of my brain so be warned. Also if I get two characters who are almost exactly the same I will choose the one which is the most intriguing to me and tell the other one to rewrite his. I don't want characters who are too similar unless it's for a joke and don't send me impossible shit like a space pilot in a fantasy novel. Your character can be a student or school staff but I am not taking ideas for antagonists, I already have him sorted out.

Option 1: Provide a name. Come up with a name for any of these characters and I will reserve you a spot.

Lesser Ent/Dryad, I'm combing the two species into a single one that can evolve into both Dryads or Ents but I am lacking good names, do your thing internet.

Goblins name: and no, don't give me that overused bullshit that is Gob, Hob, and Tob, give me one that reflects his personality.

Separate Storyline.

Yes, include surnames, preferably long fancy noble sounding ones.

Teacher: A former writer who has been cursed to resemble every poorly made and overused dark lord trope he has written. Summoner class.

Student: A child genius who mastered swordsmanship at an early age, however, he wants to be a mage despite being an idiot.

Student: Your average joe who shall act as the straight man during many gags.

Student: Basically Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter but I can't use that name because I am definitely *cough cough* above plagiarism. Yup, I would never blatantly copy someone else's work. Definitely never.

Student: A straight-laced Holy Knight/ Paladin girl.

Option 2: Point out an area of improvement.

Point out any area I failed to mention here and could improve on and I shall reserve you a spot.

Option 3: Good ideas.

Give me ideas to improve my novel and I will reserve you a spot. This includes everything from unique monster ideas to interesting characters or locations. And no don't just link me to a random site I can find with a google search. If you want to pitch a monster idea to me then don't link me to a fucking list that neither of us will read through. When you pitch it provide a short description, then link a page that gives more description. You can also link me to fan art to give me inspiration or other stuff like that.

Quick Hits

I wanted to do a QnA but you need at least 5 questions to do one so I'm just gonna answer the one question I got.

The inspiration for the systems are game mechanics, specifically MMORPGs. The systems will work basically the same way as they do in an MMORPG with the only exception being someone controlling it to create fresh content. So exactly like an MMORPG then. I thought it would be obvious given all the clues. I said that Leveling in this world works in the way of further mastering your class yet Felix from the last chapter has a Leveling System, meaning he has something different. The only different Levelling way is the classic kill shit get EXP. The dungeon's titles also work because Titles are linked to achievements and they provide passive benefits.

I know that it may seem like I am trying to change a lot of things regarding this Genre and you might dislike these changes. But news flash, you fuckers don't pay me to write this novel and last I checked no one has donated to my Patreon! So unless you are going to show me hard constructed and logical arguments or hand me money then take your bitching elsewhere.

I either die an idiot who ruined a perfectly good novel or I make a great original and unique novel. If I do fail I can just rewrite it, so I shall take the path of uniqueness.
