Chapter 12 – The Wind Faerie Tribe’s Treasure

Daniel’s eyes widened in shock. In his hand was an emperor’s ancient divine mandate scroll, a treasure so precious that he might never see something like this again in a million years.

“I can’t take this,” Daniel said. “This is your tribe’s treasure…”

“No,” the female wind faerie replied. “You must take it. Grow stronger, and avenge us against that vile Anndr that killed my family, and my entire tribe. Please.” Raw emotion flooded into her face, and she broke down sobbing. “Please, do it for me.”

A peculiar hissing sound interrupted their conversation, coming from the ceiling. Daniel looked up, falling flat on his butt at the sight of a massive tarantula-like pitch black spider descending from the ceiling, with several babies by its spined legs also coming down by a web protruding from their backs.

“Daniel,” the cute wind faerie said in a small voice. “We’re in trouble. Those spiders are the man-eating kind.”

Just as she said that, the huge black bulb spider with a red hourglass mark on its back descended onto the ground, its meter high legs bent in standing position as it opened its pincers, saliva dripping down its mouth. Dozens of baby spiders rushed underneath its legs, and it began to walk towards Daniel and the faerie.

“Hey faerie,” Daniel replied, taking the ancient mandate scroll in his hand and opening it delicately as the spider was nearly at arm’s length. “It’s all or nothing now.”

[Summoner has evoked the Emperor’s Decree.]

[Do you wish to bind Knight as your familiar?]

[Warning– this action is permanent.]

Yes.

The scroll began to glow, before disintegrating into dust which flew to the side of Daniel’s body.

“Aaaagghhhhh!” Daniel screamed in pain, as an unearthly scorching sensation on his chest left his knees weak, and he fell to the ground with his arms supporting his body as sweat rolled down his face. The moment he activated the mandate, something began to brand itself on his chest with a fiery scorching pain.

The monstrous salivating arachnid and its scurrying babies crawled in unison towards Daniel.

“Eep!” the small faerie behind Daniel yelped, and she darted upwards into the air. She was trembling like a leaf, as faeries were instinctively afraid of monsters that could eat them, whether they be Anndrs or overgrown spiders.

This was it. This was how he was going to die, Daniel thought. He didn’t even get to do much of anything so far, and he was already looking down the barrel of a giant man eating spider that was about to reach his face with its salivating hairy pincers and had every intention of eating him alive.

He already left the tutorial area. There was no tutorial death protection anymore here.

The spider’s meters long legs advanced towards him in a fast, insect-like manner of movement that made Daniel’s skin crawl.

Suddenly, his hand began to glow red hot, and light surged from his palm. Energy seemed to channel from within him to something in front of him.

[You are summoning Knight for the first time.]

Daniel raised his hand as if controlled by madness, and an ethereal figure began to take shape in front of him, assembling itself one appendage at a time. It was large– nearly seven feet tall, with a full helmet and wearing a suit of dented platemail, complete with platelegs and gauntlets.

In the knight’s hand was a thin longsword, chipped and somewhat rusted down. And underneath its helmet was a black shadowy figure in the shape of a man.

Turning its helmeted head for a brief moment to nod at Daniel, the [Knight]’s low voice telepathically transmitted itself in Daniel’s head.

My liege.

With a jump, the massive spider hissed and descended upon Daniel.

Permission to strike?

“Permission granted,” Daniel replied in a soft mutter, panting in exertion from the energy channel that was taking place from the summon. His mana bar was burning down at a slow rate, and he nearly let out a laugh, realizing that the few points he put into mana during character creation could potentially save him right now.

Raising its sword into a guard stance, the knight expertly deflected the spider’s pounce, then spun and delivered an awe inspiring horizontal strike that struck the spider’s body and left a jagged mark, red blood oozing out from the gash.

“Guh…..” Daniel groaned. It wasn’t just his mana– his health bar was burning down a sliver at a time to sustain the summon of the divine mandate [Knight].
