《High-Class Mob》21. Wishing for plot armor is not viable [Vol. 2]

Leo once dreamt of marrying his girlfriend after she graduates from university.
But, that dream never came to be because as soon as she graduated, she met him face to face and told Leo everything she had done, how she used him and laughed at him, mocking him for his stupidity, for believing the words “I love you.”
She laughed at him for believing someone would actually love him. In that whole conversation, Leo picked up his phone one time and placed it down as he chose to stay silent and listen to her mocking words.
He did not stand up for himself and merely listened. There’s only one thing he said, “You only dated me for money, and while I am away working for you, Tia Olivia, you were secretly meeting the one who you truly love on my back…I do not want to believe it, but, just tell me, is this true or not?”
“Heh, look at yourself, you should already know the answer to that question! Do you think I’ll ever approach you if not for you being a fool with money?”
“Then…this is goodbye.”
Leo picked up his phone and left without turning back.
Tia and Leo separated; one was smirking while the other had an expression, neither cold nor saddened.
If he had called her a bitch, no one would blame him for his words would have been justified, but he didn’t. As to why that was, Tia didn’t know. That was until three days later, after her name spread like wildfire.
Leo went to call a hotline where broken-hearted people congregate to find solace and talk about their heartaches. There, a particular recorded break up conversation surfaced. And with the mention of Tia’s and Leo’s full name, the truth emerged.
It started on Tia’s social circle, then soon enough, it reached her parents, her batch, and everyone who had access to the internet found out who she was and what she did. And considering how nosy humans were, soon enough, those who wished for Leo’s betterment spread Tia’s photos online.

It was distasteful in others’ eyes, but the majority wanted to drown Tia with their spit. That was how Leo dealt with his breakup. He won.
“That was satisfying…”
“What was that now, darling?”
Colt opened his eyes and found Mina by his side, looking at him with concern.
“It is nothing, Mina.”
He sat up straight and stretched his aching body. He looked at Mina, promptly pulling her to his embrace.
“D-darling, t-this is not the right place and time.”
Catching the yandere by surprise, Mina’s face turned beet red. She was aggressive on what she desires, but she was also a woman, and with her always making the advances, it was pretty obvious Colt’s actions caught her off guard.
“Please, just a little bit.” he was lonely, but with Mina’s stream of affection, he managed to get by.
Colt’s soothing voice echoed in Mina’s ears as their travels become more pleasant.
It had been a total of two weeks since they set out for the capital. Thanks to magical technology’s advancement, the carriage did not rock, nor did it receive noise from the outside or the other way around.
Their journey went smoothly, even with bandits appearing here and there, the Vice-Captain of the guards managed to take care of them.
The travel from the Edgeworth territory to the capital would take at least three weeks to complete. And in these past two weeks, hardships have yet to be encountered.
When their group stopped to rest, Colt would begin his daily training Neun taught him.
Ten thousand swings of the three-sword variation and train in the movement techniques until he drops that was all. It did not matter whether Colt was in a town inn or the woods, he would complete his training, and Mina would help him recuperate.
Seeing the “wastrel” of a young master train so hard ignited the soldiers’ competitive heart. Led by the Vice-Captain, they too would train when they got the chance.
In this world, despite the strange names of food and ingredients, Colt still liked eating without a doubt. But he was aware that such dishes could only appear in the manor where the Head Chef crafted his masterpiece.

They only traveled with soldiers, so no one expected food that better than dried meat. But, a Goddess descended to save their tongues.
Colt did not experience having to eat dirt-tasting food because Mina came prepared and learned the Edgeworth family Head Chef’s recipe so Colt could enjoy his meals without a problem.
Colt noticed that Mina was slowly invading everything he likes, and he appreciated that. For a woman to go all this way to please him was most definitely a keeper.
Now that all had been said and done, Colt was placed in a very precarious situation. The world was changing before the three years of the story even begins.
Colt Edgeworth was never supposed to come to the academy, but here he was, heading there to gain popularity for himself and his daughter’s future.
‘There’s a lot of different flashbacks in the story, and it showed a lot of villains’ backstory occurring around this time. So, I better be careful how I approach this world, but then again, don’t I have the ability to change the lives of so many people?’
Colt had a sudden flash of inspiration. He found clarity; he didn’t know why this was, but he found remembering villains more clearly than the heroes.
A hero would always be a hero, but a hero can be one of either two things.
A righteous person who saves everyone but cannot die despite his numerous enemies because of plot armor.
And an anti-hero who kills everyone but cannot die despite his numerous enemies because of plot armor.
‘Though I also wish for that legendary armor. Come on, legendary God of stories, give me PLOT ARMOR!’
He wished for it, but he’s pretty sure it would never come.
From Vol. 1 – 5, three major events would happen this year, and some background stories of different antagonists would be birthed.
‘Vyra, Gilbert, and Avern’s backstories happen at the same time, correct? Should I avoid them or not?’
And while he was thinking about it, the bell installed in the carriage to let Colt know if anyone on the outside needs to speak rang.
Colt opened the window of the carriage and glanced outside.
But all the while he was doing so, Colt felt something was wrong. As if something similar had happened before, ‘Strange, why do I feel like something troublesome is about to happen.’
The Vice-Captain was the one who rang the bell. And now that Colt paid attention to his surrounding; the carriage had also stopped.
“What is it? Why did we stop? Bandits?”
“A young man is blocking our path, Young Master.”
“Please! Please take me with you to the capital! My little sister, she is in dire need of a medicine!”
Right after the Vice-Captain spoke of those words, Colt heard shouting.
Colt got interested and stuck his head out to see what was happening. There, he saw a young man with silver hair and ragged clothing. He had a scar on his chin, and he was pretty handsome.
“Ah, Great Noble, please let me accompany one of your soldiers to the capital, I need to return and give medicine to my sister! Please!”
The young man saw Colt peeking out of the carriage and pleaded to Colt.
But, Colt could hardly focus on the young man’s words as he had his own concerns.
“What is your name, young man?”
The young man found it weird that a Noble asked his name, but he answered quickly to show no disrespect, “It is Avern, your Lordship.”
Hearing the name had Colt sighing, and as he looked at the Vice-Captain, he motioned with his chin.
“Have him board the carriage.”
Fate was toying with him.
‘I wished for a plot armor, not a goddamn Necromancer.’

Dream of the Abyss
Elisa Mary Grant died in a hospital bed after being stuck in it for six months, and like any other, her soul drifted away from her husk when she passed. For her, death was a release. It merely meant that she no longer have to wake up in pain, breathing through tubes and have doctors flood her veins with dubious chemicals for “experimental treatment”. Free from her mortal constraints and useless body, she felt… at peace, serene, even. Death is bliss, after all, when objectively living sucked to the point of extreme. Therefore, there was no reason to mourn at all and she knew she definitely didn't. ... That was until, on her way for a proper reincarnation, she found herself rudely interrupted and left stranded in the great NoWhere. “Wonderful,” she remarked as she floated in the [Beyond], “Just when I thought that suicide is the answer.” Author's note: Updates every Tuesday-Wednesday, probably some time in between. ... P.S Notes: Contains existential questions and nihilistic themes, rather philosophical. Will be rather sluggish until the MC gets her shit together. P.SS Notes: Story takes time to develop. And maybe uncomfortable. It's not gonna be action-packed or filled with battles, I think. Anyway, it is kinda unusual. P. SSS Notes: It is not LitRpg. Don't be fooled.

Blood & Noodles
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] As they always have, humanity hunts the gods roaming the world, craving the supernatural power that flows within their veins. Even a drop is zealously guarded, passed from master to student through the ages. It is with this stolen power that the Blooded - those with divine blood coursing through them - grasp beyond mortality and achieve prestige, power, and greatness. Yet, for every fraction of power gained, thousands perish, slain by the gods' supernatural prowess. But everything is beginning to change. Eight years ago, for the first time in human memory, a god was felled. Part-time chef and full-time nuisance Orvi wants nothing to do with gods. Living in a derelict city, his only concerns are ensuring his adopted family's restaurant is prosperous and how to best beat the neighbourhood boys in a fight. If he's lucky, he might even snag a date with the farmer's daughter at the market. But even though he cares nothing for the gods or their blood, the world won't leave him alone forever. Because to reach godhood, one must first leave their humanity behind. *** The first arc of Blood & Noodles follows the adolescent Orvi as he attempts to navigate his rapidly changing home and - by his own definition - protect his family. The story is told almost entirely in the first-person, from the perspective of a teenager who isn't always the sharpest tool in the shed. There are tragic elements, especially in the current arc. It's character-focused and driven, though the protagonist's shenanigans are backdropped by a world operating independently from him. Orvi's a generally light-hearted character, and though the story veers into darker territory, I also want it to be able to make readers smile. Action sequences, despite the fantastical elements, are meant to be grounded and clearly-conveyed; Orvi is a brawler, not a warrior. I'm trying to write a story that's enjoyable to read and flows nicely, mainly because it's more fun to write. I'm also trying to improve my writing, so any feedback, whether positive or negative, is welcome!

Letters from a Dying World
Times historic are often penned after the fact in the lifeblood of the pitiful, forgotten masses. That roiling, uncountable crush of humanity, they who held the pikes and they who threw down the tyrants. Their veins opened by gazes academic, sharp and cruel, and pecked away at with quills, written out of their own story. The Second Dark Crusade was a time of such poignancy. A time when the light of man waned and flickered, choking in the acrid smoke of its own inadequacy. As befitting of such an age it has been covered more than a capital whore, and so I attempt not to tell that story again. That story of dull, unfeeling analysis. Neither here will you find the browbeating, propagandistic screeds so common in the hands of men, the light of youth still burning behind their eyes. Nay, here I shall attempt to cover fresh ground, not tread on the grave dirt of long dead authors. Here I shall attempt to tell the story of the small lives caught, unbeknownst to them, in the great and torrential downpour that we now call history. Here lies the true story of The Second Crusade. - Loremaster Ip'Qal
